Findings obtained by fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) and computed tomography (CT) were compared in patients with malignant lymphoma and colorectal carcinoma. In 14 malignant lymphoma patients, 16 18F-FDG PET procedures were performed to assess chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy outcome (remission). One patient with clinically overt relapse of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma underwent PET to assess disease dissemination prior to prescribing second-line chemotherapy.

Aim: To compare T-tube and pressure support ventilation (PSV) as two methods of mechanical ventilation weaning of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) after failed extubation.
Methods: A prospective randomized trial carried out at the multidisciplinary intensive care unit (ICU) over 2 years included 136 patients with COPD who required mechanical ventilation longer than 24 hours. The patients who could be weaned from mechanical ventilation were randomized to either a T-tube or PSV 2-hour spontaneous breathing trial.

Aim: To test the hypothesis according that the receptors located in the nasal fontanels influence the regulation of the tracheobronchial tree vagus tone.
Methods: Changes in respiratory parameters (forced expiratory volume in the first second- FEV1 and total resistance- Rt) occurring consequentially to light mechanical nasal stimulation were determined in healthy volunteer, non-smokers using spirometric and body plethysmographic measurements. The parameters were measured before and at 15 and 60 min after mechanical stimulation with cotton pledge.

During military operations in Bosanska Posavina in 1992, 6,105 soldiers of the army of the Croatian Defence Council (Bosnian Croats and Muslims) were treated at various health care levels: 920 soldiers were killed, 3,258 were heavily wounded, and 1,927 lightly wounded.
