Treatment of vitiligo with a melanocyte-keratinocyte cell suspension versus dermabrasion only: a pilot study with a 12-month follow up.

Background: Dermabrasion is a surgical procedure that has been used for repigmentation; however, autologous transplantation of uncultured melanocytes in a suspension combined with the use of adjunct treatment provides better results.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of dermoabrasion (DA) and melanocyte-keratinocyte cell suspension transplantation (DA+MKT) vs. dermabrasion with no adjunct treatment.

Performance of the international classifications criteria for autoimmune hepatitis diagnosis in Mexican patients.

The revised score of the International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group (R-IAIHG) and the simplified criteria (SC) are used for diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). Our aim is to evaluate the performance of these classifications to differentiate AIH from other autoimmune liver diseases. The frequency of diagnosis of definite AIH was similar both by the R-IAIHG and the SC systems (41% versus 40%), whereas diagnosis of probable AIH was made more commonly by the R-IAIHG than the SC (59% versus 29%), and 23 patients that have been graded as definite (n = 7) or probable (n = 16) AIH by the R-IAIHG had non-diagnostic scores by the SC system.

Clinical evaluation of a third-generation thermal uterine balloon therapy system for menorrhagia coupled with curettage.

Study Objectives: To estimate the incidence of amenorrhea 12 months after treatment with a third-generation thermal uterine balloon therapy (UBT) system. Secondary objectives were to compare the incidence of amenorrhea observed with this third-generation system with that of a first-generation system, to estimate the effect of postprocedure curettage on patient outcome, and to evaluate the workings of this new system.

Relationship Between Gestational Iron Deficiency and Iron Deficiency in the Newborn; Erythrocytes.

Objective: To investigate the iron status of women at term and its impact in their neonates. Study design: Serum ferritin (SF) was measured in 201 women at term and in their newborns. The relationship between maternal and infant SF and hemoglobin (Hb) and the effects of partial prenatal care and iron supplementation were analyzed.

Immune-mediated agglutination of cytoskeleton-free RBC microvesicles.

Background: The factors contributing to RBC agglutination are complex. The RBC cytoskeleton's participation in and contribution to this phenomenon are difficult to separate from those of the plasma membrane. Immunoreactive, cytoskeleton-free, band 3-enriched microvesicles can be generated from normal RBCs.

High-dose peripheral blood stem cell transplant for multitransfused severe aplastic anaemia patients without antithymocyte globulin in the conditioning regimen.

Four multitransfused patients with severe aplastic anaemia (SAA) are described. Two received a BMT after conditioning with cyclophosphamide (Cy) plus antithymocyte globulin (ATG). Both suffered a graft failure (GF) and had a second transplant with PBSC from the original donor.
