Objective: The aim of this study was to compare serum and synovial fluid levels of matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in 2 stages of osteoarthritis, and investigate their correlation with Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) scores.

Methods: Forty-two patients (mean age: 64±8.8 years) with grade 3 and grade 4 knee osteoarthritis according to Kellgren-Lawrence criteria were enrolled in the study and underwent total knee arthroplasty.

Sudden Appearance of Water in Flowmeter During Air/Oxygen and Sevoflurane Anaesthesia.

Endotracheal intubation was performed, and a water bubbling sound was heard from the anaesthesia device immediately after the release of gases to administer the O2-air-sevoflurane mixture. The flowmeter on the anaesthesia device was then found to be filled with water. The present study aimed to demonstrate how the nasal mucociliary transport times are affected in the patients receiving radiotherapy for head-neck tumor in two different anatomic localizations. The study included 44 patients receiving radiotherapy under the diagnoses of the nasopharyngeal and laryngeal cancer. The mucociliary transport times of both groups were measured via saccharine tablets before radiotherapy, and at months 3 and 6 after radiotherapy.

Methods: A total of 178 patients with full medical histories who were operated on for skin tumors in the Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic of Ankara Oncology Education and Research Hospital between February 2010 and March 2012 were evaluated retrospectively. A comparison of unilevel and multilevel surgery in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

We conducted a retrospective study of 35 adults who had undergone tongue base suspension in addition to other surgery for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Our goal was to determine the most effective surgical approach by comparing these patients' preoperative apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) with their postoperative scores at 6 months. The 35 patients were divided into three groups based on a preoperative assessment of their level of airway obstruction; the assessment included a determination of AHI and endoscopic findings during the MÜller maneuver.

Giant occipital osteoid osteoma mimicking calcified meningioma.

Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone tumor, which rarely occurs in the skull, and often causes local pain that is worse at night, characteristically relieved by aspirin. Giant osteoid osteoma in the occipital bone is uncommon. We present a case of a 42-year-old female with an osteoid osteoma of the occipital bone that was totally resected.

Spinal gout tophus: a very rare cause of radiculopathy.

Gout is a common metabolic disease characterized by the development of arthritis and nephropathy related to the deposition of monosodium urate crystals within the joints, periarticular tissues, skin and kidneys. Tophus formation seen around the spinal column is very rare, while occurrences of spinal gout tophus without systemic gout disease are much more unique. In our study, we report a spinal gout case that presented with right sciatica without previous history of systemic gout disease.
