Background: Concomitant knee injuries, such as meniscal tears, are observed in up to 80% of cases and can have a detrimental impact on outcomes following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Over recent decades, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of preserving meniscal tissue. Consequently, the prevalence of meniscal-preserving procedures has been on the rise.

Introduction: Invasive device-associated nosocomial infections commonly occur in intensive care units (ICUs). These infections include intravascular catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI), ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), and catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). This study aimed to evaluate the factors associated with invasive device-associated nosocomial infections based on the underlying diseases of the patients and antibiotic resistance profiles of the pathogens causing the infections detected in the ICU in our hospital over a five-year period.

We present a case of adamantinoma that originated from the fibula and had a large soft tissue component measuring approximately 6 cm. Clinical, radiological, and pathological investigations initially suggested that the tumor might be a bone-invading synovial sarcoma. To the best of our knowledge, no other case of fibular adamantinoma with such a large soft tissue component has been reported in the literature.

Article Synopsis
  • Spinal muscular atrophy type 1 is a severe illness in young children, often leading to complications like scoliosis and hip deformities, yet treatment with nusinersen improves survival and motor skills.
  • A study involving 29 patients treated with nusinersen showed that while the therapy significantly correlated with better motor function scores, it did not significantly impact the development of spinal and hip deformities.
  • The findings suggest that even with effective treatment, patients continue to experience progressive skeletal changes, highlighting the need for ongoing monitoring and potential additional interventions.

Objective: Due to infectious complications of transrectal prostate biopsy (TRBx), the transperineal prostate biopsy (TPBx) technique is gaining popularity and is the first-line method in many institutions. We share our experience of the first 100 patients with TPBx, performed using the coaxial needle technique under local anesthesia.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of the first 100 patients who had undergone TPBx between December 2022 and September 2023.

CIC-rearranged sarcoma (CRS) is a group of high-grade undifferentiated small round cell sarcomas examined as a separate entity in the current WHO classification; since it shows more aggressive clinical behavior and distinct morphological and molecular features compared to Ewing sarcoma (ES). As CCNE1 expression is associated with tumor growth in CIC::DUX4 sarcomas, we aimed to demonstrate the value of cyclin E1 expression in CRS. Cyclin E1 immunohistochemistry and break-apart FISH for EWSR1 and CIC gene rearrangements were performed on 3-mm tissue microarrays composed of 40 small round cell tumors.

Aims And Objectives: Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-low breast cancer (BC) is a new entity considered a biologically distinct subtype from HER2-zero BC. However, the importance of HER2 low expression on the activity of cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) remains unclear.

Methods/materials: We conducted a single-center retrospective study including hormone receptor-positive (HR +) /HER2- metastatic BC (mBC) patients treated with CDK4/6i plus endocrine treatment (ET) as first-line therapy.

Background: Primary repair of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) has some potential advantages over the reconstruction technique, which include but are not limited to better knee sensation due to preservation of the natural ACL tissue in patients compared with tendon graft. Proprioception is impaired after ACL injuries and the sense of the joint position is lost.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to compare arthroscopic ACL primary repair and ACL reconstruction techniques clinically and functionally and analyze the differences in proprioception.

Background: We assessed the relationship between sepsis occurrence and the serum levels of angiopoietin (Ang-1, Ang-2), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) in pediatric patients with cancer-related febrile neutropenia.

Methods: Fifty-two children with malignant tumors who experienced 86 episodes of febrile neutropenia (FN) were examined between June 2016 and June 2018. Each FN episode was considered a separate event and the total number of FNs were recorded (86 FN episodes = FN group).

Background And Aims: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections are widely treated with antibiotic regimens such as "Amoxicillin 1 gr 2 × 1 tablet, Clarithromycin 500 mg 2 × 1 tablet, and Lansoprazole 30 mg 2 × 1 tablet" for 14 days. We conducted a prospective observational study to explore whether this treatment protocol serves as a predisposing factor for the colonization of resistant gastrointestinal microflora, namely vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), extended-spectrum beta-lactamase Enterobacterales (ESBL-E), and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE).

Objective: Image-Guided Adaptive Brachytherapy (IGABT) provides a survival advantage in locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC). Although side effects are seen less with this technique, dose parameters that cause urinary side effects are still questionable. We aim to investigate whether the radiotherapy doses of the lower urinary tract substructures (LUSS) affect the urinary system side effects (USSE) of cervical cancer external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) and the IGABT.
