Introduction: In elderly patients who have proximal humerus fractures, treatment commonly involves total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) or reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA). Following these procedures, patients often require opioids for postoperative analgesia. This common scenario is of clinical and societal importance, as increased postoperative opioid usage has been shown to worsen outcomes and increase the likelihood for dependence.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) regulates carbohydrate metabolism and promotes neurogenesis. We reported an inverse correlation between adult body mass and neurogenesis in nonhuman primates. Here we examine relationships between physiological levels of the neurotrophic incretin, plasma GLP-1 (pGLP-1), and body mass index (BMI) in adolescence to adult neurogenesis and associations with a diabesity diathesis and infant stress.

Purpose: This descriptive study examined differences in health quality of life (HQoL) and activity engagement in two groups of people with Parkinson's disease (PD): those who regularly participated in classes offered by the community-based program, Brooklyn Parkinson's Group (BPg), and a comparison group. Individuals in the comparison group did not participate in any community-based programs for people with PD, and were recruited from a clinic for PD and related disorders (PDRD) in an urban medical center.
Method: We enrolled 26 participants; 13 participants were recruited from BPg and 13 from PDRD Clinic.
