Background: Vitreous floaters are a common ocular condition that affects individuals of all ages. Although vitreous floaters are typically benign, they can significantly impair visual acuity and quality of life. Laser vitreolysis, which uses an Nd: YAG laser to vaporize collagenous vitreous opacities, is increasingly being used as a treatment option.

The Department of Pathology and Pathophysiology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Guangdong Pharmaceutical University, Guangzhou, 510006, China. Electronic address:

Background: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology and quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) technology are widely used in clinical diagnosis and research, but amplification efficiency and sensitivity are still key problems for researchers. An increasing number of reports show that gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) can be used to improve the sensitivity and amplification efficiency of PCR. Here, we found that 60 nm gold nanoparticles with a positive charge (60 nm- Au) can enhance the amplification efficiency of qPCR.

Immunotherapies of acute myeloid leukemia: Rationale, clinical evidence and perspective.

Biomed Pharmacother

February 2024

Department of Hematology, Dongyang Hospitai Affiliated to Wenzhou Medical University, Dongyang People's Hospital, Dongyang, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a prevalent hematological malignancy that exhibits a wide array of molecular abnormalities. Although traditional treatment modalities such as chemotherapy and allogeneic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) have become standard therapeutic approaches, a considerable number of patients continue to face relapse and encounter a bleak prognosis. The emergence of immune escape, immunosuppression, minimal residual disease (MRD), and other contributing factors collectively contribute to this challenge.

Safety and feasibility of anti-CD19 CAR T cells expressing inducible IL-7 and CCL19 in patients with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma.

Cell Discov

January 2024

Department of Hematology, The Second Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Although CD19-specific chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells are curative for patients with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma (R/R LBCL), disease relapse with tumor antigen-positive remains a challenge. Cytokine/chemokine-expressing CAR-T cells could overcome a suppressive milieu, but the clinical safety and efficacy of this CAR-T therapy remain unclear. Here we report the preclinical development of CD19-specific CAR-T cells capable of expressing interleukin (IL)-7 and chemokine (C-C motif) ligand (CCL)-19 upon CD19 engagement (referred to as 7 × 19 CAR-T cells) and results from a phase 1 and expansion phase trial of 7 × 19 CAR-T cell therapy in patients with R/R LBCL (NCT03258047).

Introduction: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) guided by coronary angiography-derived fractional flow reserve (FFR) or intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) has shown improved clinical outcomes compared with angiography-only-guided PCI. In patients with intermediate stenoses, FFR resulted in fewer coronary interventions and was non-inferior to IVUS with respect to clinical outcomes. However, whether this finding can be applied to angiography-derived FFR in significant coronary artery disease (CAD) remains unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • - DNA methylation is a key aspect of gene regulation linked to cancer, and DNMT1 is the enzyme responsible for adding methyl groups to DNA, influencing its expression.
  • - The researchers developed a new biosensor called DS-GlaI-EXPAR that uses hemi-methylated DNA to detect DNMT1 activity quickly and sensitively, achieving results in just 2.5 hours.
  • - This platform is particularly effective, with a detection limit of 0.86 pg/μL, and was able to show higher DNMT1 activity in breast cancer cells (MCF-7) compared to normal cells (HEK293), making it useful for cancer diagnosis and inhibitor discovery.

Gilteritinib, a potent FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) inhibitor, was approved for relapsed/refractory (R/R) FLT3-mutated acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) patients but still showed limited efficacy. Here, we retrospectively analysed the efficacy and safety of different gilteritinib-based combination therapies (gilteritinib plus hypomethylating agent and venetoclax, G + HMA + VEN; gilteritinib plus HMA, G + HMA; gilteritinib plus venetoclax, G + VEN) in 33 R/R FLT3-mutated AML patients. The composite complete response (CRc) and modified CRc (mCRc) rates were 66.

Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Affiliated Dongyang Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Dongyang People's Hospital, Dongyang, Zhejiang, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the use of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol in patients undergoing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for bile duct stones, aiming to assess its safety and effectiveness.
  • In a retrospective analysis involving 349 patients, those treated with the ERAS protocol showed significantly higher success rates in stone extraction, lower incidence of postoperative pancreatitis, and shorter hospital stays compared to a traditional treatment group.
  • The results suggest that ERAS can improve recovery outcomes and reduce hospital stay duration without raising treatment costs for patients undergoing ERCP.
