Shot peening is a process wherein the surface of a material is impacted by small, spherical metal shots at high velocity to create residual stresses. Nickel-based superalloy is a material with high strength and hardness along with excellent corrosion and fatigue resistance, and it is therefore used in nuclear power plants and aerospace applications. The application of shot peening to INCONEL, a nickel-based superalloy, has been actively researched, and the measurement of residual stresses has been studied as well.

Previous studies have shown that female adolescents are at a higher risk of low self-esteem than male adolescents, and self-esteem in adolescents is critical for academic performance, adult health, and economic status. Depression, social withdrawal, and grit are predicted to be internal factors that affect self-esteem, and an integrated exploration of the relationship between them is required for a proper approach to enhance self-esteem in female adolescents. Therefore, this study investigated the influence of social withdrawal and depression on self-esteem among female adolescents and explored the mediating effect of grit on self-esteem.

The monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) is an important prognostic determinant of various malignancies. However, the prognostic role of MLR in patients with gastric cancer undergoing gastrectomy remains unclear. Patients with stage I to III gastric cancer who underwent curative-intent gastric resection were enrolled in this study.

This study entailed performance tests to confirm the bond performance of the proposed new repair material and the pressurization effect of the developed mechanical pressurizing equipment. The physical property changes of the new repair material were reviewed by varying the mixing ratio of high aluminate cement (HAC)-mixed mortar. Strength tests were performed according to the mixing ratios of polymer and silica fume to improve the bond performance.

As an indicator measured by incubating organic material from water samples in rivers, the most typical characteristic of water quality items is biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) concentration, which is a stream pollutant with an extreme circumstance of organic loading and controlling aquatic behavior in the eco-environment. Leading monitoring approaches including machine leaning and deep learning have been evolved for a correct, trustworthy, and low-cost prediction of BOD concentration. The addressed research investigated the efficiency of three standalone models including machine learning (extreme learning machine (ELM) and support vector regression (SVR)) and deep learning (deep echo state network (Deep ESN)).

Stress freezing is an important and powerful procedure in 3-dimensional experimental stress analysis using photoelasticity. The application of the stress freezing technique to extract stress components from loaded engineering structures has, however, declined over the years even though its principles are well established. This is attributed to huge costs arising from energy consumption during the process.

To assess the clinical feasibility of the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) as determinants of survival in patients with stage I to III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This retrospective study included patients with stage I to III NSCLC from all age groups. Hazard ratios (HRs) for overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and relapse-free survival (RFS) were calculated using the Cox regression analysis.

The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) is an important determinant of overall survival (OS) in patients with stage I-III gastric cancer (GC) across all ages; however, its value as a determinant of disease-free survival (DFS) is unclear. Moreover, the prognostic values between the GNRI and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) remains unclear. We retrospectively evaluated the value of the GNRI and PNI as determinants of OS and DFS in patients with stage I-III GC who underwent curative-intent gastrectomy.

In this study, the material properties of the damage-vulnerable parts and the residual strain of tension clamps comprising many curved parts, such as those used in urban railroads, were tested and analyzed. The effects of decreasing the strengths of the tension clamps on performance were then assessed. The permanent deformation characteristics of the tension clamps of aged specimens (6, 11, and 16 years of service) exhibited tendencies similar to the strain-hardening characteristics of the stress-strain responses reported in previous studies.

Machines learning models have recently been proposed for predicting rivers water temperature (T) using only air temperature (T). The proposed models relied on a nonlinear relationship between the T and T and they have proven to be robust modelling tools. The main motivation for this study was to evaluate how the variational mode decomposition (VMD) contributed to the improvement of machines learning performances for river T modelling.

This study evaluated the structural stability of subway structures based on adjacent excavations by comparing automatically measured and numerically analyzed data. The reliability of the automated measurement methodology was evaluated by first applying probability statistical analysis to the measured results and then comparing these results with the numerically analyzed results. An improvement in the calculation method evaluation system, including the method of processing and analysis of the automatically measured data of subway structures through the average value of probability density, was proposed.

Background And Objectives: acute kidney injury (AKI), formerly called acute renal failure (ARF), is commonly defined as an abrupt decline in renal function, clinically manifesting as a reversible acute increase in nitrogen waste products-measured by blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine levels-over the course of hours to weeks. AKI occurs in about 20% of all hospitalized patients and is more common in the elderly. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent the occurrence of AKI, and to detect and treat early, since it is known that a prolonged period of kidney injury increases cardiovascular complications and the risk of death.

Elderly cancer survivors (patients with any stage of cancer or a history of cancer) are precious members of our society and they can be easily found in various types of surveys. As is well known, good nutrition is important in elderly people suffering from cancer. Proper nutritional evaluation and intervention not only improves their quality of life but also helps them to receive adequate treatment, thereby prolonging individual survival and reducing social healthcare costs.

Groundwater is one of the most important freshwater resources, especially in arid and semi-arid regions where the annual amounts of precipitation are small with frequent drought durations. Information on qualitative parameters of these valuable resources is very crucial as it might affect its applicability from agricultural, drinking, and industrial aspects. Although geo-statistics methods can provide insight about spatial distribution of quality factors, applications of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models can contribute to produce more accurate results as robust alternative for such a complex geo-science problem.

Freeway tunnel strikes by motor vehicles inflict serious damages to the infrastructure, cause personal injuries, and create traffic congestions. Freeway tunnel hits are a constant threat in South Korea due to its mostly mountainous terrain. Despite efforts by public agencies to include disaster remedial or preventative facilities in the development of freeway tunnels, these facilities are designed mainly to reduce the number of collisions instead of also mitigate the consequences of a crash.

In order to evaluate the sensory perceptions of users who visited a train station, this study aimed to conduct an evaluation of their spatial emotions and identify the distance and type of transfer. For evaluation and verification, emotional recognition and wayfinding types were analyzed according to types in the groups (gender, age, and spatial familiarity) of experimental participants. There were two research questions: "Will the length of movement patterns in the experiment environment vary depending on the types of the participant group?" and "Is there any moderating effect in the interaction between spatial familiarity and the types of the participant groups?" A total of 28 participants were recruited with consideration of gender, age, and familiarity with spatial experience, which were used to analyze the participant groups.
