To treat and improve skin condition, photo masks using LEDs have been developed and widely marketed to consumers. However, since the skin condition of the user varies, it is difficult to simulate suitable conditions, because various variables such as light output intensity and irradiation time must be applied to the mask development. Currently, photo masks on the market were developed considering only the parameters related to light irradiation.

Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are major contributors to hepatic fibrogenesis facilitating liver fibrosis. Forkhead box O 3a (FoxO3a) is a member of the forkhead transcription factor family, which mediates cell proliferation and differentiation. However, the expression and function of FoxO3a during HSC activation remain largely unknown.

The analgesic effect of alpha-2 adrenergic receptor (αAR) agonists, which relieve chronic neuropathic pain, is highly variable among individuals. Here, we used a mouse model of spared nerve injury (SNI) to show that treatment time after the establishment of neuropathic pain was important for the variability in the analgesic efficacy of αAR agonists, which was related to the activity of regulator of G-protein signaling protein 4 (RGS4). Intrathecal treatment with αAR agonists, clonidine (0.

Lung cancer is a leading cause cancer-related death with diversity. A promising approach to meet the need for improved cancer treatment is drug repurposing. Dasatinib, a second generation of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), is a potent treatment agent for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) approved by FDA, however, its off-targets and the underlying mechanisms in lung cancer have not been elucidated yet.

Previously, we demonstrated that a 5% ethanol extract of unripe (5-RCK) and ellagic acid has hypocholesterolemic and antiobesity activity, at least partially mediated by the downregulation of adipogenic and lipogenic gene expression in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed animals. The present study investigated the thermogenic and lipolytic antiobesity effects of 5-RCK and ellagic acid in HFD-induced obese C57BL/6 mice and explored its mechanism of action. Mice fed an HFD received 5-RCK or ellagic acid as a post-treatment or pretreatment.

This outcome assessor-blinded, randomized controlled clinical trial investigated the effects of electroacupuncture combined with computer-based cognitive rehabilitation (EA-CCR) on mild cognitive impairment (MCI). A per-protocol analysis was employed to compare the efficacy of EA-CCR to that of computer-based cognitive rehabilitation (CCR). Thirty-two patients with MCI completed the trial (EA-CCR group, 16; CCR group, 16).

This study aimed to confirm the associations between stress and physical activity (PA) in Korean adolescents with atopic dermatitis (AD) based on data from the 2018-2019 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey. The AD groups were divided into adolescents who were not diagnosed with AD, adolescents who were diagnosed with AD more than one year ago, and adolescents who were diagnosed with AD within one year. We defined the regular PA group and the non-PA group using the American College of Sports Medicine guidelines for children and adolescents: moderate to vigorous PA ≥5 times per week, including vigorous PA ≥3 days per week and muscle strengthening exercises ≥3 times per week.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of fungi on kimchi metabolites during fermentation. A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) based metabolite profiling approach in combination with principal component analysis (PCA) is performed to differentiate metabolites produced by fungi or bacteria. To avoid bacterial growth, kimchi is treated with 100 μg/mL of ampicillin every three days from 30 to 50 days of fermentation.

Context: 5-Caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA) is one of the most abundant compounds found in natural foods including coffee.
Objective: We investigated whether 5-CQA had a cytoprotective effect through the NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-antioxidant response element (ARE) signalling pathway.
Materials And Methods: Nrf2 activation in response to 5-CQA treatment at the concentration of 10-100 μM is evaluated by Western blotting of Nrf2 and ARE reporter gene assay as well as its target gene expression in HepG2 cells.

In this study, we carried out a comparative evaluation of antiaging and anti-melanogenesis activities of raspberry extracts (Rubus occidentalis L.) according to their stage of ripening (uRo: unripe raspberry, Ro: ripe raspberry), and analyzed the active component (ellagic acid) present in these extracts. Our results showed higher inhibitory effects of the uRo extract in terms of elastase and collagenase activities than Ro extract.

Global environmental pollution has led to human exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation due to the damaged ozone layer, thereby increasing the incidence and death rate of skin cancer including both melanoma and non-melanoma. Overexpression and activation of V-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog (AKT, also known as protein kinase B) and related signaling pathways are major factors contributing to many cancers including lung cancer, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and skin cancer. Although BRAF inhibitors are used to treat melanoma, further options are needed due to treatment resistance and poor efficacy.

The objective of this study was to evaluate anti-obesity effects of kimchi microbial community (KMC) on obesity and gut microbiota using a high fat diet-induced mouse model compared to effects of a single strain. Administration of KMC decreased body weight, adipose tissue, and liver weight gains. Relative content of Muribaculaceae in the gut of the KMC-treated group was higher than that in the high-fat diet (HFD) group whereas relative contents of Akkermansiaceae, Coriobacteriaceae, and Erysipelotrichaceae were lower in KMC-treated group.
