Background: Accumulating evidence has suggested a relationship between calcium-sensing receptor () polymorphisms and cancer risk in different types of cancer; however, the findings from epidemiologic studies have been conflicting. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to assess the clinical susceptibility of polymorphisms in cancer patients.
Materials And Methods: This study systematically searched MEDLINE and EMBASE databases for eligible articles through March 2017.

Purpose: Evidences showed that paraoxonase 1 (PON1) gene polymorphism has an impact on women's susceptibility to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) by influencing the expression and activity of PON1. However, the effects of three PON1 polymorphisms (- 108 C>T, L55M and Q192R) on the incidence of PCOS have generated inconsistent results. Here, we conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the association between PON1 polymorphisms and PCOS risk.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer-associated mortalities worldwide. MicroRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) serve important roles in tumor development, progression and metastasis. miR-221 has been reported to modulate proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle distribution and cell migration in a variety of cancers.

Previous studies have demonstrated that microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) act as tumor suppressors or oncogenes during multiple processes in cancer. It has been observed that miR‑27b may act as a tumor‑suppressor and was significantly downregulated in a number of types of cancer. However, the functions of miR‑27b in gastric cancer (GC) remain unclear.

Background: Chitosan is a popular dietary fiber often used to reduce dietary fat absorption to control weight and blood lipids. However, its effects on blood pressure (BP) have not been fully elucidated. We evaluated the effects of chitosan administration on systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) through a pooled analysis of available randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Objective: This study was conducted to explore chromosomal copy number variations (CNV) and transcript expression and to examine pathways in cervical pathogenesis using genome-wide high resolution microarrays.
Methods: Genome-wide chromosomal CNVs were investigated in 6 cervical cancer cell lines by Human Genome CGH Microarray Kit (4x44K). Gene expression profiles in cervical cancer cell lines, primary cervical carcinoma and normal cervical epithelium tissues were also studied using the Whole Human Genome Microarray Kit (4x44K).

Background: Cognitive impairment is one of common complications of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Increasing evidence suggests that interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) plays a role in inducing neuronal apoptosis in cognitive dysfunction. The lung protective ventilatory strategies, which serve to reduce pulmonary morbidity for ARDS patients, almost always lead to hypercapnia.

Tumors require nutrients and oxygen for growth and metastasis. Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) has been found as a new manner of blood supply, which is characterized as the formation of tumor cell-lined vessels instead of endothelial vessels. This is why angiogenesis agents targeted to endothelial cells show a limited efficacy.

We developed a high-efficiency nucleus-targeted co-delivery vector that delivers genes and drugs directly into the nucleus of cancer cells. The system is based on grafted poly-(N-3-carbobenzyloxy-lysine) (CPCL) with transactivator of transcription (TAT)- chitosan on the surface. It is designed to perform highly efficient nucleus- targeted gene and drug co-delivery.

Background: The potential glucose-lowering effects of pomegranate have been reported in animal and observational studies, but intervention studies in humans have generated mixed results. In this paper, we aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the precise effects of pomegranate supplementation on measures of glucose control, insulin levels and insulin sensitivity in humans.
Methods: Comprehensive electronic searches were conducted in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library.

Deregulation of Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2T (UBE2T) contributes to the progression of human cancers. However, its clinical significance and role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear. Here, we show that UBE2T is up-regulated in HCC and exerts oncogenic activities via ubiquitination of p53.

Mitochondrial 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase (HMGCS2) has been implicated in human cancers, but its role and clinical significance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unknown. Here, we show that HMGCS2 is downregulated and exhibits antimetastatic potential in HCC. Low expression of HMGCS2 was associated with poor tumor differentiation, vascular invasion and worse overall and disease-free survivals in two independent cohorts consisting of 743 cases.

Deregulation of ubiquitin ligases contributes to the malignant progression of human cancers. Tripartite motif-containing protein 65 (TRIM65) is an E3 ubiquitin ligase and has been implicated in human diseases, but its role and clinical significance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unknown. Here, we showed that TRIM65 expression was increased in HCC tissues and associated with poor outcome in two independent cohorts containing 888 patients.

Centrosomal proteins have been implicated in the progression of human diseases. CEP131 plays important roles in centrosome duplication and genome stability, but its role in cancers remains largely unknown. Here, we showed that CEP131 expression was increased in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), compared to the paracarcinoma tissues, at both mRNA and protein levels.

Deregulation of serine/threonine kinase contributes to the development and progression of human diseases. PDZ-binding kinase (PBK) has been implicated in the malignant process of cancers, but its role and clinical significance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear. Here we show that PBK expression is increased and associated with larger tumor size, presence of vascular invasion, lymph node metastasis and poor overall and disease-free survivals in two independent cohorts of 879 patients with HCC.

The function of activating transcription factor 1 (ATF1) and the mechanism about why ATF1 was over-phosphorylated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) progression is completely undiscovered. In this study, a series of experiments both in vitro and in vivo were used to characterize a promotive function of ATF1 in NPC tumorigenesis and identify prolyl isomerase Pin1 as a novel regulator of ATF1 at post-transcription. First, we found that overexpression of ATF1 promoted colony formation in NPC.

Improving the quality of in vitro maturated buffalo oocytes is essential for embryo production. We report here the effects on microtubules and microfilaments in oocytes and embryo development that result from treating buffalo oocytes with the phosphodiesterase 3 (PDE3) inhibitor cilostamide. Addition of 20μM or 50μM cilostamide for 24h during in vitro maturation showed no differences in the percentage of oocytes arrested at the germinal vesicle (GV) stage.

Although RNA interference may become a novel therapeutic approach for cancer treatment, target-site accumulation of siRNA to achieve therapeutic dosage will be a major problem. Microneedle represents a better way to deliver siRNAs and we have evaluated for the first time the capability of a silicon microneedle array for delivery of Gapdh siRNA to the skin in vivo and the results showed that the microneedle arrays could effectively deliver siRNA to relevant regions of the skin noninvasively. For the further study in this field, we evaluated the efficacy of the injectable microneedle device for local delivery of siRNA to the mouse xenograft.

Coronary artery disease is a disease with high morbidity and mortality, in which vascular endothelial dysfunction plays an important role. Hypoxia leads to the inflammation and oxidative stress in endothelial cells, which results in the endothelial injury. The present study was designed to investigate the protective effect and mechanism of folic acid on hypoxia-induced injury in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC).
