Background: This meta-analysis aimed to determine the incidence and overall risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) related to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).

Methods: We systematically searched all cohort studies, including the available MACE data in cancer patients receiving ICIs, in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library, from their inception to September 5, 2023. The primary outcome was the incidence of MACEs associated with ICI exposure, and the secondary outcome was the overall risk of MACEs associated with ICI exposure versus non-ICI exposure controls.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is caused by a variety of factors, and one of the most important factors is gut microbiota dysbiosis. An imbalance in the gut mincrobiota have been shown to change the concentrations of lipopolysaccharide and short-chain fatty acids. These microorganisms synthesize substances that can influence the levels of a variety of metabolites and cause multiple diseases through the immune response, fatty acid metabolism, and amino acid metabolism pathways.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compared two treatment methods, intercostal nerve block (ICNB) and thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB), for managing pain from herpes zoster and preventing long-term pain (post-herpetic neuralgia) in 128 patients.
  • - Results showed that both treatment methods significantly reduced the burden of illness compared to standard antiviral treatment alone, with no notable difference in effectiveness between TPVB and ICNB.
  • - ICNB was quicker to perform than TPVB and both methods were effective, suggesting ICNB as a practical alternative for managing herpes zoster pain with fewer side effects.

Background: Despite the established negative regulatory effects observed in various diseases like cardiovascular disease and diabetes, the distinct impact of red cell distribution width (RDW) to albumin ratio (RAR) on mortality within the realm of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) remains obscure. This study sought to explore the relationship between RAR and mortality in RA patients.

Methods: A cohort of 2151 adults with RA from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2003-2016 was analyzed for RAR levels derived from red cell distribution width and albumin concentrations.

Inflammation may be related to structural changes in the cerebral cortex. We aimed to explore whether cytokines mediate the link between these changes and primary headache. The summary statistics of genome-wide association study (GWAS) related to migraine and its subtypes, cluster headache were derived from the FinnGen Release 10 database, and tension-type headache data was from the GWAS Catalog.

Objectives: Ultrasound (US)-guided intercostal nerve block (ICNB) is an easier approach with a very low incidence of complications for different surgeries; nevertheless, only a few studies estimate the effect of ICNB for acute HZ. To explore the US-guided ICNB for management of herpes zoster (HZ)-related acute pain and possible prophylaxis for post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) taking the conventional thoracic paraverteral block (TPVB) as control.

Methods: A total of 128 patients with HZ were retrospectively stratified into antiviral treatment (AVT) plus US-guided TPVB (TPVB group), AVT plus US-guided ICNB (ICNB group) or AVT alone (control group) based on the treatment they received.
