The purpose of the current study was to determine the angulation of the dural venous sinuses in soft tissue, to evaluate differences between types of tissue, and to discuss the potential influence of these angulations on intracranial venous hemodynamics and related pathologies. Angulations formed in different segments of the transverse, sigmoid, and superior sagittal sinuses were measured in 13 adult human cadaveric heads (26 sides). After the soft tissues were removed, measurements were also taken from the underlying bone.

As fluoroscopy-guided interventional procedures gain popularity, the associated health threats from radiation exposure to interventionalists during these procedures are increasing. Therefore, an understanding of the potential risks of radiation and careful consideration on minimizing exposure to radiation during the procedures are of paramount importance. The Korean Pancreatobiliary Association has developed a clinical practice guideline to minimize radiation exposure during fluoroscopy-guided interventional procedures.

Radiation- (radio-)recurrent prostate cancer poses a significant challenge in clinical management due to its complexity and varied treatment responses. The recurrence of prostate cancer following radiotherapy necessitates a nuanced management strategy that considers disease stage and aggressiveness, patient health status, and prior treatment modalities. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), a cornerstone in the management of regional or distant relapse, often initiates the therapeutic cascade, effectively suppressing tumor growth by targeting androgen signaling.

The ethmoidal foramina (EF), located on the medial orbital wall along the frontoethmoidal sutures, are critical anatomical landmarks for surgeries involving the medial orbital wall. This review aimed to review the surgical anatomy of the EF, including their embryology and radiology. Although the frontoethmoidal sutures mostly have two foramina passing through them, there are reports of single foramen or multiple, up to six foramina.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of gemigliptin and dapagliflozin dual add-on therapy (GEMI + DAPA) to metformin in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients who had inadequate glycaemic control on metformin alone, compared with a single add-on of either gemigliptin (GEMI) or dapagliflozin (DAPA) to metformin.
Materials And Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, active-controlled, parallel-group, phase 3 study, 469 T2D patients treated with a stable dose of metformin for 8 weeks or longer were randomized to receive GEMI + DAPA (n = 157) and either GEMI (n = 156) or DAPA (n = 156). The primary endpoint was change in HbA1c levels from baseline at week 24.

Among the anatomical spaces in the head and neck area, the buccal space has often been studied in dental/oral surgery and cosmetic surgery because it contains the facial vessels, mandibular and facial nerves, and adipose tissue called the buccal fat pad. In addition, as the space can communicate with other spaces, it can be significant in infections. Although the anatomy of the buccal space has been reported in several studies, there have been discrepancies concerning its boundaries, and its communications have often been overlooked.

Present case report describes a case of bifid ureter arising directly from separate calyces and renal pelvis of the kidney. Incomplete ureter duplication on the left side in a 78-year-old male cadaver was found during an anatomy class. These ureters converged in a Y-shaped pattern just above the level of the anterior superior iliac spine.

Objective: Auditory verbal hallucination (AVH) is a prominent symptom of schizophrenia causing profound distress. The influence of AVHs on insight appears to be intricate and contingent on other accompanying symptoms. This study investigated the relationship and possible mediators between AVHs and the degree of insight.

Objective: To evaluate the strengths of various surgical knot techniques, including square knot, surgeon's knot, granny knot, and random knot with the same three throws.
Methods: The authors tested each of the four knot techniques using four different gauges of nylon (polyamide [Ethicon]): 4-0, 5-0, 6-0, and 7-0. Each knot type was tested 20 times per nylon gauge, for a total of 320 knots tested.

Posterior interosseous nerve (PIN) injury is uncommon due to its anatomically deep location. We report a neglected, rare case of PIN injury presenting the loss of extension of thumb, index, and small fingers with weakness of thumb abduction in a 49-year-old male patient. The patient sustained a penetrating injury to his right forearm caused by a kitchen knife that was repaired primarily through an emergency surgery under general anesthesia.

Background: Although non-human primates are the closest animals to humans to simulate physiological and metabolic responses, there is a paucity of primate hemorrhagic shock models that are standardized and reproducible. Herein, we describe a model that is a clinical replica of extreme class IV hemorrhagic shock with a step-by-step description of the procedure in cynomolgus macaque monkeys.
Methods: The physiological changes that occurred during the process were evaluated using hemodynamic parameters, echocardiogram, and laboratory values.

Background: Xenotransplantation, particularly when involving pig donors, presents challenges related to the transmission of porcine cytomegalovirus (pCMV) and its potential impact on recipient outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between pCMV positivity in both donors and recipients and the survival time of cynomolgus monkey recipients after xenogeneic kidney transplantation.
Methods: We conducted 20 cynomolgus xenotransplants using 18 transgenic pigs.

Background: The prevalence of dementia is 2- to 7-fold higher among patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) than among the general population; however, its clinical implications in this population remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether comorbid dementia increases mortality among older patients with ESKD undergoing newly initiated hemodialysis.
Methods: We analyzed data from the Korean Society of Geriatric Nephrology retrospective cohort, which included 2,736 older ESKD patients (≥70 years old) who started hemodialysis between 2010 and 2017.

It was reported that patients who contracted COVID-19 while taking clozapine exhibited a distinct hematological response. However, the absence of control groups made it difficult to attribute it to clozapine. The changes in absolute neutrophil counts (ANCs) during the 4 weeks after COVID-19 infection were compared between the two groups of patients with severe mental illnesses (SMIs) (49 patients using clozapine and 54 using other antipsychotics) using generalized additive modeling.

Parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often encounter unique challenges when attempting to understand their children's challenging behaviors such as self-injury, aggression, noncompliance, and stereotypies. In this study, we aimed to analyze and clarify the definition of challenging behaviors in individuals with ASD, identify the variables associated with challenging behaviors, and determine the function of these behaviors. Systematic observation and data collection are crucial to understand the functions of specific behaviors exhibited by individuals with ASD based on their antecedents and consequences.

Background: The optimal frequency for hemodialysis in older adults with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) has not been established. This study aims to investigate whether a twice-weekly dialysis schedule using an incremental approach can reduce hospitalization rates in the elderly with incident dialysis, compared with conventional thrice-weekly dialysis.
Methods: We have designed a pragmatic randomized controlled trial to compare the effects of twice-weekly versus thrice-weekly hemodialysis in 428 ESKD individuals (dropout rate 20%) aged 60 years or older with residual kidney function (urine output, >500 mL/ day).

Background: In pancreatic cancer surgery, anatomical understanding of lymph node metastases is required. Distinguishing lymph nodes in computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging is challenging for novice doctors and medical students because of their small size and similar color to surrounding tissues. This study aimed to enhance our understanding of the clinical anatomy of lymph node stations relevant to pancreatic cancer using newly sectioned images of a cadaver with true color and high resolution and their three-dimensional (3D) models.
