Background: The stiffening of large elastic arteries is currently estimated in research and clinical practice by propagative and non-propagative models, as well as parameters derived from aortic pulse waveform analysis. Methods: Common carotid compliance and distensibility were measured by simultaneously recording the diameter and pressure changes during the cardiac cycle. The aortic and upper arm arterial distensibility was estimated by measuring carotid−femoral and carotid−radial pulse wave velocity (PWV), respectively.

Even though systemic therapy is standard treatment for lymph node metastases, metastasis-directed stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT ) seems to be a valid option in oligometastatic patients with a low disease burden. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT ) is the gold standard for assessing metastases to the lymph nodes; co-registration of PET-CT images and planning CT images are the basis for gross tumor volume (GTV ) delineation. Appropriate techniques are needed to overcome target motion.

Objectives: Patients with Crohn's disease (CD) usually undergo magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) for evaluating small bowel involvement. Musculoskeletal symptoms are the most frequent extraintestinal manifestation in inflammatory bowel diseases, especially in CD, with sacroiliitis at imaging occurring in about 6-46% of patients and possibly correlating with axial spondyloarthritis. The primary study aim was to assess the prevalence of sacroiliitis in adult and pediatric patients with CD performing an MRE.

Background: Previous WHO guidance on tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-based oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) suggests measuring creatinine levels at PrEP initiation and regularly afterwards, which might represent barriers to PrEP implementation and uptake. We aimed to systematically review published literature on kidney toxicity among tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-based oral PrEP users and conducted an individual participant data meta-analysis (IPDMA) on kidney function among PrEP users in a global implementation project dataset.
Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis we searched PubMed up to June 30, 2021, for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) or cohort studies that reported on graded kidney-related adverse events among oral PrEP users (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-based PrEP alone or in combination with emtricitabine or lamivudine).

Background And Aim: Based on the emerging role of Kruppel-like factor 6 (KLF6) in lipid metabolism, we examined whether there is a relationship between the KLF6 rs3750861 genetic variant and plasma ceramide levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Methods And Result: We measured six previously identified plasma ceramides, which have been associated with increased cardiovascular risk [Cer(d18:1/16:0), Cer(d18:1/18:0), Cer(d18:1/20:0), Cer(d18:1/22:0), Cer(d18:1/24:0) and Cer(d18:1/24:1)] amongst 101 Caucasian post-menopausal women with T2DM, who consecutively attended our diabetes outpatient service during a 3-month period. Plasma ceramides were measured by targeted liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry assay.

This overview summarises the current evidence on efficacy and safety of single-fraction stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) for primary lung cancers and lung metastases, in comparison with the more widely adapted multi-fraction SABR regimens. A literature search using the Medline database through PubMed was carried out using the following key words: ('stereotactic' or 'sabr' or 'sbrt'), ('radiotherapy' or 'radiation therapy'), ('lung' or 'thorax' or 'thoracic' or 'chest'), ('cancer' or 'metasta-' or 'oligometasta-'), alongside: (i) ('single-fraction' or 'single-dose') to identify trials and cohort studies with single-fraction SABR to lung malignant tumours and (ii) ('fraction' or 'schedule') limiting the search to 'clinical trial' and 'randomized controlled trial' to ensure thorough capture of lung SABR trials comparing different fractionations. The review discusses the radiobiological, technical and organ at risk considerations of single-fraction SABR to the lung.

Loiasis, the infection with the vector-borne filarial nematode Loa loa, is widely distributed in central and west Africa. Long considered a rather benign infection, recently loiasis with high microfilarial burden was associated with increased mortality risk. Eyeworm and Calabar swelling are pathognomonic signs of the infection, but other atypical, non-specific manifestations can also occur.

In the past decade, nine antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have been approved for the treatment of various tumors, four of which specifically for solid malignancies. ADCs deliver the cytotoxic payload to the cancer site, thereby improving chemotherapy efficacy while reducing systemic drug exposure and toxicity. With their high selectivity, ADCs are associated with a manageable side-effect profile, with nausea and vomiting being among the most frequent toxicities, although this may vary according to the respective ADC and the associated payload.
