This study aims to investigate the protective and/or healing effect of fig seed oil (FSO) on 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-induced intestinal mucositis by targeting inflammatory markers and histologic changes in rats. Albino Wistar adult rats were randomly divided into four groups, including three male and three female animals.

Associations of health literacy and sleep quality with depressive symptoms in Turkish adolescents: A descriptive cross-sectional study.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the associations of health literacy and sleep quality with depressive symptoms in adolescents.

Design And Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 1081 high school students in Turkey. The data were collected online using the Health Literacy for School-Aged Children Scale, Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index, and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for Children.

Oral amiodarone and propranolol in maintenance therapy of postimplantation tachycardia: An observational study.

Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are widely used as end-stage therapy in patients with advanced heart failure, whereas implantation increases the risks of development of sustained ventricular tachycardia at the later postimplantation stage. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of orally administered amiodarone and propranolol in 3 patients with ventricular tachycardia (VT) after LVAD implantation who were resistant to initial anti-antiarrhythmic drugs. This retrospective cohort study consisted of the initial evaluation of the clinical data of 14 adult patients who underwent implantation of LVAD between January 2019 and March 2021.

Introduction: Medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy is a biological procedure for treating unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis. The literature repeatedly highlights the significance of preserving an intact lateral hinge during this procedure. We investigated the temporal course of distraction forces during distraction at the osteotomy site, aiming to quantitatively measure and analyse temporal changes in distraction forces at different distraction points for intact and fractured lateral hinges.

Lipodystrophy syndromes are rare diseases primarily affecting the development or maintenance of the adipose tissue but are also distressing indirectly multiple organs and tissues, often leading to reduced life expectancy and quality of life. Lipodystrophy syndromes are multifaceted disorders caused by genetic mutations or autoimmunity in the vast majority of cases. While many subtypes are now recognized and classified, the disease remains remarkably underdiagnosed.

Due to the recent increasing importance of microcharacters in copepod taxonomy, it has become evident that many species lacking detailed descriptions actually constitute to a species complex. In this study, is redescribed based on lectotype material from Lake Timsah (Egypt) which facilitated a thorough detailed comparison with specimens of recorded from distantly related localities. The results unequivocally revealed that the specimens of examined in this study belong to a different species.

FLI1 and FRA1 transcription factors drive the transcriptional regulatory networks characterizing muscle invasive bladder cancer.

Bladder cancer is mostly present in the form of urothelium carcinoma, causing over 150,000 deaths each year. Its histopathological classification as muscle invasive (MIBC) and non-muscle invasive (NMIBC) is the most prominent aspect, affecting the prognosis and progression of this disease. In this study, we defined the active regulatory landscape of MIBC and NMIBC cell lines using H3K27ac ChIP-seq and used an integrative approach to combine our findings with existing data.

Incidence of and risk factors for postintubation hypotension in critically ill patients with COVID-19.

Objective: To evaluate the incidence of risk factors for postintubation hypotension in critically ill patients with COVID-19.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 141 patients with COVID-19 who were intubated in the intensive care unit. Postintubation hypotension was defined as the need for any vasopressor dose at any time within the 60 minutes following intubation.

Application of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) palladium complexes has been successful for the modulation of C-C coupling reactions. For this purpose, a series of azolium salts (1a-f) including benzothiazolium, benzimidazolium, and imidazolium, bearing a CN-substituted benzyl moiety, and their (NHC)PdBr (2a-c) and PEPPSI-type palladium (3b-f) complexes have been systematically prepared to catalyse acylative Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of acyl chlorides with arylboronic acids to form benzophenone derivatives in the presence of potassium carbonate as a base and to catalyse the traditional Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of bromobenzene with arylboronic acids to form biaryls. All the synthesized compounds were fully characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), and H and C NMR spectroscopies.

Tissue Sodium in Patients With Early Stage Hypertension: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background Sodium (Na) stored in skin and muscle tissue is associated with essential hypertension. Sodium magnetic resonance imaging is a validated method of quantifying tissue stores of Na. In this study, we evaluated tissue Na in patients with elevated blood pressure or stage I hypertension in response to diuretic therapy or low Na diet.

Peritumoral histopathologic findings in patients with chronic viral hepatitis-associated hepatocellular carcinoma.

Data on peritumoral histopathologic findings in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is limited. In this retrospective study, we evaluated the peritumoral histopathologic changes in patients with chronic viral hepatitis (CVH)-associated HCC (CVH-HCC) and their prognostic value. 61 consecutive cirrhotic patients who underwent liver transplantation due to CVH-HCC were included.

Identification of the gene expression changes and gene regulatory aspects in ELF3 mutant bladder cancer.

Background: Recent genome-wide studies revealed the molecular subtypes and mutational landscape of bladder cancer, which is the 10th most common cancer causing many deaths. ELF3 is one of the frequently mutated genes in bladder cancer with 14% alteration rate. It mainly functions as an epithelial transcription factor and its proper function is critical for the urothelium development.

Different application procedures of Nd:YAG laser as an adjunct to scaling and root planning in smokers with stage III grade C periodontitis: a single-blind, randomized controlled trial.

Background: The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether different Nd:YAG laser applications as an adjunct to scaling and root planning (SRP) improve the healing response to periodontal therapy in smokers with periodontitis.

Methods: This clinical trial included eighty systemically healthy smokers with periodontitis. Patients were randomly allocated to a treatment group: SRP alone (group 1), SRP+low-level laser therapy (LLLT) with Nd:YAG laser (group 2), SRP+pocket debridement with ND:YAG laser (group 3), and SRP+combined pocket debridement and LLLT with Nd:YAG laser (group 4).

Challenges of persons with multiple sclerosis on ocrelizumab treatment during COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Coronavirus disease of the 2019 pandemic caused much fear among people with chronic diseases and those on immunosuppressant treatment because of spreading knowledge that the infection has a fatal course in these populations. People with Multiple Sclerosis on ocrelizumab treatment share this fear too. We aimed to investigate treatment and lifestyle changes of people with multiple sclerosis on ocrelizumab treatment during the lockdown.

Clinical effectiveness of adding probiotics to a low FODMAP diet: Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study.

Background: There are various studies showing the relationship between irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and diet, and some dietary adjustments are recommended to reduce symptoms. In recent years, there is a growing number of studies that show a 4-8 wk low fermentable oligo, di- and mono-saccharides and polyols (FODMAP) diet has a 50%-80% significant effect on symptoms in IBS patients. There is strong evidence suggesting that changes in fecal microbiota have an impact on IBS pathogenesis.

Outcomes associated with different vaccines in individuals with bipolar disorder and impact on the current COVID-19 pandemic- a systematic review.

Bipolar disorder (BD) might be associated with higher infection rates of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) which in turn could result in worsening the clinical course and outcome. This may be due to a high prevalence of somatic comorbidities and an increased risk of delays in and poorer treatment of somatic disease in patients with severe mental illness in general. Vaccination is the most important public health intervention to tackle the ongoing pandemic.

New-onset atrial fibrillation in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Background: Mortality in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is high, therefore, it is essential to evaluate the independent effect of new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) on mortality in patients with COVID-19. We aimed to determine the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of NOAF in a cohort of critically ill patients with COVID-19.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with a diagnosis of COVID-19.

There is no treatment method considered to be successful on the hearing loss that has become a permanent nature.
