Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the association between maternal adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) levels and the risk of perinatal complications.
Study Design: This is a retrospective cohort study of 5,693 mother-child pairs born between 2019 and 2021, who completed questionnaires on maternal ACE scores and perinatal complications such as preterm birth, low birth weight infants, pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and premature rupture of membrane (PROM). Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using logistic regression according to the three ACE score groups after adjusting for confounding factors such as maternal age, child's sex, household income, and maternal education.

Carinoplasty can be divided into the one-stoma method, the montage method, the double-barrel method, and the Miyamoto method. The one-stoma method is usually performed with right upper sleeve lobectomy, and with an anastomosis of the intermediate trunk to a carina. On the other hand, in the montage method, the double-barrel method or the Miyamoto method, carina is completely resected and the trachea, left main bronchus and right bronchus are divided into three pieces.

Nurr1 (NR4A2) is a member of nuclear receptor superfamily that regulates gene transcription in midbrain dopaminergic neurons and also inhibits nuclear factor-κB-mediated inflammatory responses in brain microglial cells. To date, various compounds have been reported to stimulate transcriptional activity of Nurr1 on neuronal genes, but their anti-inflammatory actions are poorly characterized. The present study examined the effects of three kinds of Nurr1 ligands, amodiaquine, 1,1-bis(3'-indolyl)-1-(p-chlorophenyl)-methane (C-DIM12) and 5-chloronaphthalen-1-amine (5-CNA), on inflammatory responses of microglial BV-2 cells.

Background: In transfusion-related iron overload, macrophage/reticuloendothelial cells are the first site of haem-derived iron accumulation. The prevention of haem-induced cytotoxicity in macrophages may represent a target for iron overload treatment. Deferasirox, an oral iron chelator, has been used to treat transfusion-related iron overload however, low adherence to the therapy is an issue.

Aromatic (Ar)-turmerone is a bioactive component of turmeric oil obtained from . We recently identified a novel analog (A2) of ar-turmerone that protects dopaminergic neurons from toxic stimuli by activating nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). D-cysteine increases Nrf2, leading to the activation of chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA), a pathway in the autophagy-lysosome protein degradation system, in primary cultured cerebellar Purkinje cells.

Sex differences exist in sepsis, but the commitment of neutrophils to these differences remains unclear. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) function to remove pathogens, yet excessive NETs release can contribute to organ damage. This study explores effects of the gender hormones on endotoxin-induced NETs using neutrophils from both male and female sources.

Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is a lysosomal lipid storage disorder characterized by progressive neurodegeneration and hepatic dysfunction. A cyclic heptasaccharide, 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD), is currently under clinical investigation for NPC, but its adverse events remain problematic. We previously identified that a cyclic octasaccharide, 2-hydroxypropyl-γ-cyclodextrin (HP-γ-CD), also ameliorated NPC manifestations with higher biocompatibility than HP-β-CD.

Recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) is an isothermal DNA amplification reaction at around 41 °C using recombinase (Rec), single-stranded DNA-binding protein (SSB), strand-displacing DNA polymerase (Pol), and an ATP-regenerating enzyme. Considering the onsite use of RPA reagents, lyophilized RPA reagents with long storage stability are highly desired. In this study, as one of the approaches to solve this problem, we attempted to use a thermostable pyruvate kinase (PK).

Hemorrhage-induced injury of the corticospinal tract (CST) in the internal capsule (IC) causes severe neurological dysfunction in both human patients and rodent models of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). A nuclear receptor Nurr1 (NR4A2) is known to exert anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in several neurological disorders. Previously we showed that Nurr1 ligands prevented CST injury and alleviated neurological deficits after ICH in mice.

In Japan, inactivated vaccines, including the influenza vaccine, are administered subcutaneously, which is contrary to global recommendations for intramuscular injections. This practice is attributed to historical medical incidents and unchallenged conventions. However, this outdated method, which differs from that of international standards and is linked with less immunogenicity and more adverse reactions, may contribute to vaccination hesitancy.

Goreisan is a Kampo medicine used to treat headaches associated with climate change. Here, by using an implantable complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) device, we evaluated the effects of Goreisan and loxoprofen on cerebral blood flow (CBF) dynamics associated with barometric pressure fluctuations in freely moving mice. In the vehicle group, decreasing barometric pressure increased CBF that was prevented by Goreisan and loxoprofen.
