: hypochloremia is an emerging risk factor for mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease. The pathophysiological mechanisms of this finding are not very clear. Some studies suggest the influence of inflammation as a synergistic factor, so we set out to analyse the association of a novel C-reactive protein-to-serum chloride ratio (CRP/Cl) with the prognosis of maintenance haemodialysis patients and to assess its relationship with fluid status and body composition measured by bioimpedance.

Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) reinfection following successful treatment threatens the achievement of HCV elimination. The primary aim of this study is to assess reinfection rate three years after sustained virologic response (SVR) in people who inject drugs (PWID) that are on opioid agonist treatment (OAT) who underwent anti-HCV treatment with interferon-free regimens.
Methods: Observational, non-interventional, prospective, descriptive study carried out in Spanish tertiary public hospitals between 2017 and 2022.

Imipenemase (IMI) enzymes are an uncommon class A carbapenemases that have been isolated from aquatic environments and, occasionally, from clinical isolates of . We describe a cluster of three patients infected by IMI-1 carbapenemase-producing (IMI-1-Elud) in a tertiary university hospital in Gran Canaria, Spain. Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined using the Vitek2 AST-N355 card and antibiotic gradient strips.

Background: Hypochloremia has been associated with increased mortality in patients with hypertension, heart failure, sepsis, and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The pathophysiological mechanisms of this finding are not clear. There are no studies describing an association between serum chloride levels (Cl) and mortality in incident chronic hemodialysis (HD) patients.

Despite its potential impor- tance for adherence, knowledge of the treatment has been little studied in patients with psychosis. We performed this study to assess the possible association between knowledge of the treatment and nonadherence, unintentional nonad- herence (UNA) and intentional nonadherence (INA).

Objective: The role of comorbidities in heart failure (HF) outcome has been previously investigated, although mostly individually. We investigated the individual effect of 13 comorbidities on HF prognosis and looked for differences according to left-ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), classified as reduced (HFrEF), mildly-reduced (HFmrEF) and preserved (HFpEF).
Methods: We included patients from the EAHFE and RICA registries and analysed the following comorbidities: hypertension, dyslipidaemia, diabetes mellitus (DM), atrial fibrillation (AF), coronary artery disease (CAD), chronic kidney disease (CKD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart valve disease (HVD), cerebrovascular disease (CVD), neoplasia, peripheral artery disease (PAD), dementia and liver cirrhosis (LC).

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most common cancer in men and the fifth leading cause of death from cancer. The possibility of sarcopenia being a prognostic factor in advanced PCa patients has recently become a subject of interest. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prognostic value of sarcopenia in advanced prostate carcinoma.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare and severe condition that follows benign COVID-19. We report autosomal recessive deficiencies of , , or in five unrelated children with MIS-C. The cytosolic double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)-sensing OAS1 and OAS2 generate 2'-5'-linked oligoadenylates (2-5A) that activate the single-stranded RNA-degrading ribonuclease L (RNase L).

Objectives: Extragonadal germ cell tumors (EGCT) are a rare entity, most of them being located in the mediastinum and retroperitoneum. Information on these tumors is scarce, requiring carrying out large population-based studies to better understand these diseases. We aimed to determine the clinical features and prognosis of patients with EGCT of the mediastinum and retroperitoneum.

Background: Heart transplant (HT) from controlled donation after circulatory death (cDCD) is an emerging strategy that is rapidly expanding and may help increase the heart donor pool.
Materials And Methods: The use of thoracoabdominal normothermic regional perfusion with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation device has allowed to perform HT after cDCD in our country. We present a successful case of heart transplantation using a graft from cDCD with 201 min cold ischemia time.

Aims: To assess whether symptoms/signs of congestion and perfusion in acute heart failure (AHF) evaluated at patient arrival to the emergency department (ED) can predict the severity of decompensation and short-term outcomes.
Methods And Results: We included patients from the Epidemiology of AHF Emergency Registry (EAHFE Registry). We registered seven clinical surrogates of congestion and five of hypoperfusion.

The renal artery is frequently involved in the pathogenesis of vasculorenal diseases, and it is a target in kidney surgery and therapeutic techniques for refractory hypertension. However, few detailed structural studies on the human renal artery have been conducted. Using histocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and quantitative image analysis, the wall thickness, structure, smooth muscle cells, extracellular matrix, and proportion of elastic tissue in the tunica media of main human renal arteries were used estimated.

Despite promising candidates for new therapeutic options in the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), many clinical trials have failed in the past few years. The disappointing results have been at least partly be attributed to trial designs. With the aim of stimulating new developments in SLE trial design, an international open space meeting was held on occasion of the European Lupus Meeting 2018 in Duesseldorf, Germany about 'What are the topics you care about for making trials in lupus more effective?'.
