Evaluation of antihistamine-refractory chronic urticaria patients who used biological agent treatment in terms of cardiovascular risk.

Introduction: The idea that chronic inflammatory processes may play a role in the etiopathogenesis of both treatment - refractory chronic spontaneous urticaria and cardiovascular diseases is an important research topic.

Aim: Within the scope of this research, we aimed to elucidate a new perspective on the follow-up of chronic urticaria patients by evaluating the 10-year cardiovascular risk and metabolic syndrome in resistant chronic spontaneous urticaria patients who were unresponsive to maximum antihistamine treatment.

Material And Methods: A total of 170 individuals who applied to our institution's Health Science University, Tepecik Education and Research Hospital, allergy and immunology outpatient clinic have been analysed in this retrospective case-control study.

Nivolumab plus ipilimumab versus nivolumab in microsatellite instability-high metastatic colorectal cancer (CheckMate 8HW): a randomised, open-label, phase 3 trial.

Background: CheckMate 8HW prespecified dual primary endpoints, assessed in patients with centrally confirmed microsatellite instability-high or mismatch repair-deficient status: progression-free survival with nivolumab plus ipilimumab compared with chemotherapy as first-line therapy and progression-free survival with nivolumab plus ipilimumab compared with nivolumab alone, regardless of previous systemic treatment for metastatic disease. In our previous report, nivolumab plus ipilimumab showed superior progression-free survival versus chemotherapy in first-line microsatellite instability-high or mismatch repair-deficient metastatic colorectal cancer in the CheckMate 8HW trial. Here, we report results from the prespecified interim analysis for the other primary endpoint of progression-free survival for nivolumab plus ipilimumab versus nivolumab across all treatment lines.

Factors Affecting Influenza and Pneumococcal Vaccination Rates in Hemodialysis Patients: A Multicenter Study.

Purpose: In patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), infections, particularly pneumonias, are the most common cause of hospital admissions and death after cardiovascular diseases. It is recommended that dialysis patients receive the pneumococcal vaccine every five years and the influenza vaccine annually. Our study aims to determine the awareness and factors affecting influenza and pneumococcal vaccination rates in hemodialysis patients.

Novel anchor-type proximal femoral nail for the improvement of bone-fixation integrity in treating intertrochanteric fractures: an experimental and computational characterization study.

Prognostic factors and outcomes of adjuvant and first-line metastatic treatments in melanoma a Turkish oncology group study.

Management of melanoma has changed significantly with the discovery of targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). Our aim in the study is to determine which treatment alternatives, specifically dabrafenib plus trametinib and ICIs, are effective in adjuvant therapy and which treatment is effective as first-line metastatic therapy. This retrospective, multicenter study included 120 patients diagnosed with stage IIIB-IIID melanoma receiving both adjuvant and first-line metastatic treatment between 2007 and 2023.

Comparison of Asymptomatic Brain Lesions Between Thalassemia Major and Sickle Cell Anemia Patients.

This study aimed to identify asymptomatic brain lesions in patients with β-thalassemia major (TM) and sickle cell anemia (SCA) and evaluate the correlation of these lesions with factors such as splenectomy, thrombocytosis, and blood transfusions. A total of 26 patients with thalassemia major and 23 patients with sickle cell anemia were included. Ischemic lesions were categorized as lacunar, small vessel, or multifocal.

Background: Prenatal exposure to high levels of testosterone affects the development of the brain. The purpose of this study was to compare the mothers of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and those of healthy children in terms of the digit ratio (2D:4D). It also examines the relationship between ADHD symptoms and the 2D:4D in mothers.

Psychiatric characteristics of child survivors after the Kahramanmaraş double earthquake.

Background: The two strongest earthquakes in Turkey for eight decades hit Kahramanmaraş province on February 6, 2023. This study aimed to determine psychiatric complaints, acute stress symptoms, anxiety, depression, and sleep characteristics in children who were treated in a tertiary inpatient pediatric unit after the earthquakes. They were evaluated in the fourth week after the earthquake.

Comparison of low-level laser therapy versus neuromuscular electrical nerve stimulation at hemiplegic shoulder pain and upper extremity functions.

This study aimed to assess and compare the effectiveness of adding low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and neuromuscular electrical nerve stimulation (NMES) to conventional physical therapy exercises, for stroke patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain (HSP). Background: Inflammatory markers have been proposed as prognostic tools for predicting in-hospital mortality in infective endocarditis (IE). Nonetheless, it is unclear whether these markers provide additional prognostic value over established indicators. This study compared nine different inflammation scores to assess their effectiveness in enhancing the prediction of in-hospital mortality.

Background:  The factors affecting the prolonged air leak (PAL) and expansion failure in the lung in patients undergoing resection for lung malignancy were analyzed. In this context, the value of the percentage of low attenuation area (LAA%) measured on preoperative quantitative chest computed tomography (Q-: CT) in predicting the development of postoperative PAL and the expansion time of the remaining lung (ET) in patients undergoing resection for lung malignancy was investigated.

Methods:  The data of 202 cases who underwent lung resection between July 2020 and December 2022 were analyzed.

Comparison of long-term clinical and radiologic outcomes of AperFix and fixed loop device fixation in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: A retrospective study.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction aims to improve knee stability and range of motion. The AperFix system consists of polymer components, and fixed-loop fixation is an established endoscopic technique. Our aim in this study was to compare the long-term clinical and radiological results of AperFix and fixed-loop fixation and to prove that the long-term results of the AperFix fixation method are at least as good as those of the fixed loop device.

Background: This study aimed to examine the early clinical outcomes of AngioJet rheolytic thrombectomy (RT) in patients with acute bilateral iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis (IFDVT), with a specific focus on the incidence of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS).

Methods: From March 2021 to August 2023, sixteen consecutive patients with acute bilateral IFDVT treated with AngioJet RT at our center were evaluated. Primary outcomes include patency of the target veins, development of PTS, recurrent DVT, and procedure related death.

Effect of bromelain on ischemia-reperfusion injury in the torsion model created in polycystic and normal ovarian tissues.

Purpose: Due to its increased volume, polycystic ovarian tissue is more prone to torsion than normal ovarian tissue. In treating ovarian torsion, detorsion is applied to ensure oxygenation of hypoxic tissues. However, the resulting oxygen radicals cause tissue damage.

Introduction And Objectives: This study evaluated commissural malalignment on echocardiography as a predictor of coronary anomalies.

Methods: All newborns diagnosed with transposition of great arteries in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit between 1 August 2020 and 1 February 2022 were included in this study. The ratio of distances (C-ratio) from the anterior commissure to the right-sided commissure of the pulmonary valve and the distance from the anterior commissure to the left sided commissure of the pulmonary valve were calculated.

Exploring temperament and sleep patterns in disruptive mood dysregulation disorder among children and adolescents: implications for clinical practice.

Background: Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD), characterized by severe irritability and temper outbursts, is a relatively new diagnosis included in the DSM-5. The study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics, temperament, comorbidities, medication use, and sleep quality of children and adolescents diagnosed with DMDD and compare them with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).

Methods: A total of 233 participants (DMDD:  = 106; MDD:  = 127) were assessed using the K-SADS-PL.

Background: In this study, we aimed to investigate whether ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) would reduce the necessity of cholecystectomy in patients diagnosed with asymptomatic gallstones after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and in patients diagnosed with asymptomatic gallstones before LSG.

Methods: Between July 2020 and November 2022, at least 2-year follow-ups of patients who underwent LSG for obesity were retrospectively analyzed. Patients with pre-existing asymptomatic gallstones during preoperative evaluation, those with UDCA treatment (group 1), and observation group (group 2).

Comparing laboratory toxicity of selective intra-arterial radionuclide therapy for primary and metastatic liver tumors: resin versus glass microspheres.

Objective: To compare the acute (within 30 days of treatment) laboratory toxicities of Yttrium-90 (Y-90) resin and glass microspheres.

Methods: Selective intra-arterial radionuclide therapies (SIRTs) with Y-90 resin and glass microspheres were retrospectively reviewed. Liver-hematological data were collected at baseline and at 1 week and 1 month follow-up.
