Risk-stratified breast screening has been proposed as a strategy to overcome the limitations of age-based screening. A prospective cohort study was undertaken within the PERSPECTIVE I&I project, which will generate the first Canadian evidence on multifactorial breast cancer risk assessment in the population setting to inform the implementation of risk-stratified screening. Recruited females aged 40-69 unaffected by breast cancer, with a previous mammogram, underwent multifactorial breast cancer risk assessment.

Aim: The present cohort study explored whether specific gut microbiota (GM) profile would predict the development of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) in individuals with normal glucose tolerance (NGT).
Methods: A total of 114 study subjects with NGT in Kumejima island, Japan participated in the present study and underwent 75 g oral glucose tolerance tests at baseline and one year later. We compared the profile of GM at baseline between individuals who consistently maintained NGT (NRN, n = 108) and those who transitioned from NGT to IGT (NTI, n = 6).

Purpose: Vitreous humor (VH) is used for postmortem biochemical studies because it is well protected in an uncontaminated state even after death. The goal of this research was to investigate electrolyte concentrations in the VH from human eyes with and without a history of vitrectomy surgery.
Methods: We analyzed the sodium (Na), potassium (K), chloride (Cl) and magnesium (Mg) concentrations from 34 VH samples from 34 patients.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a major cause of chronic kidney disease. Microalbuminuria is currently the most common non-invasive biomarker for the early diagnosis of DN. However, renal structural damage may have advanced when albuminuria is detected.

Notable treatment advances have been made in recent years for patients with myelodysplastic syndromes/neoplasms (MDS), and several new drugs are under development. For example, the emerging availability of oral MDS therapies holds the promise of improving patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Within this rapidly evolving landscape, the inclusion of HRQoL and other patient-reported outcomes (PROs) is critical to inform the benefit/risk assessment of new therapies or to assess whether patients live longer and better, for what will likely remain a largely incurable disease.

Purpose: Galactose mutarotase (GALM) deficiency was first reported in 2019 as the fourth type of galactosemia. This study aimed to investigate the clinical and genotypic spectra of GALM deficiency.
Methods: This was a questionnaire-based retrospective survey conducted in Japan between February 2022 and March 2023.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the M protein trans-acting positive regulator (Mga) orthologue and its adjacent M-like protein (SCM) alleles in Streptococcus canis.
Results: Using the 39 SCM allele isolates and polymerase chain reaction-based amplification and sequencing, we obtained the deduced Mga amino acid (AA) sequences. The 22 Mga sequences in whole-genome sequences were obtained by searching the National Collection of Type Cultures 12,191(T) Mga sequence into the database.

Background: The spread of transmissible plasmids with carbapenemase genes has contributed to a global increase in carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales over the past two decades, with and among the most prevalent carbapenemase genes.
Objectives: To characterize an isolate co-carrying and (JBEHAAB-19-0176) that was isolated in the Japan Antimicrobial Resistant Bacterial Surveillance in 2019-20, and to evaluate the functional advantage of carrying both genes as opposed to only one.
Methods: The whole-genome sequence of the isolate was determined using long- and short-read sequencing.

Objectives: An increasing number of drug-resistant bacteria have been identified recently. In particular, drug-resistant bacteria have been linked to unfavorable prognoses in patients with bacteremia, highlighting the need for rapid testing. Our previous studies have focused on the utility of a drug susceptibility testing microfluidic (DSTM) method using microfluidic channels.

Background: Cementoblastoma is a rare odontogenic tumor characterized by the formation of osteocementum-like tissue on a tooth root directly by neoplastic cementoblasts. Although it is categorized as benign, it has a high potential for growth with a certain degree of recurrence risk. However, there are only a few studies describing the features of recurrent cementoblastoma.
