Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to determine the rate of type 2 non-ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (T2MI) in hospitalized COVID-19 patients and identify pre-hospital factors linked to T2MI, focusing on a national cohort rather than small, single-center studies.
  • The analysis found that 2.2% of the 32,015 patients had T2MI, with certain characteristics like coronary artery disease and hypertension increasing the likelihood of T2MI, while pre-admission anti-hyperglycemic and anti-coagulation medications decreased that likelihood.
  • Patients with T2MI experienced significantly higher morbidity and mortality, highlighting the serious impact of this condition on COVID-19 outcomes.

Women on aromatase inhibitors (AIs) as part of their breast cancer treatment often experience difficult to control side effects. Although there are several medications to manage the side effects of AI therapy, many of them are associated with their own risk, particularly sedation. The objective of this study was to describe the prescribing practices for side effect managing (SE) medications among women with breast cancer on AI therapy and to assess for combinations of medications that may present a clinical risk to patients.

Background We developed a new left ventricular hypertrophy ( LVH ) criterion using a machine-learning technique called Bayesian Additive Regression Trees ( BART ). Methods and Results This analysis included 4714 participants from MESA (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis) free of clinically apparent cardiovascular disease at enrollment. We used BART to predict LV mass from ECG and participant characteristics using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging as the standard.
