The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of prilocaine/lidocaine cream compared to piroxicam gel in reducing pain during needling of arteriovenous fistulas in hemodialysis patients.
Conducted as a double-blind crossover trial, 32 adult patients were assessed for pain intensity before and after applying either treatment, revealing significant pain reduction with the cream.
Results showed that prilocaine/lidocaine cream provided greater pain relief than piroxicam gel, with minimal side effects reported for both treatments.
