How Does Nutritional Status Affect Outcomes in Patients with Neurological Diseases?

Background: To evaluate the nutritional status of patients with neurological diseases during the rehabilitation process and to investigate the relationships between the nutritional status and disease severity and clinical evaluation outcomes.

Methods: In this prospective trial, 109 patients with a disease duration of <6 months, hospitalized for neurological rehabilitation in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic, Ankara, Turkey were enrolled from 2014-17. All patients were assessed with the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) test, European Quality of Life Scale (Euro-QoL), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Pittsburg Rehabilitation Participation Scale (PRPS), and Functional Ambulation Category (FAC).

Cardiac Output Values and Correlation of Renal Injury with Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin Levels in Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Patients.

Objective: To investigate the correlation between cardiac output values and renal neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) levels as a biomarker of renal ischemia.

Methods: Forty patients, who underwent off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) surgery and in whom the positioning of the heart was fixed with simple suspension sutures without a mechanical stabilizer, were included in the study. Continuous cardiac output (CO) measurements were recorded using the arterial pressure waveform analysis method (FloTrac sensor system) in the perioperative period.

Evaluation of oral isotretinoin effects on hearing system in patients with acne vulgaris: Reversible or not?

Systemic isotretinoin is commonly used for severe acne treatment. It has many side effects, one of these is about hearing system, which has rarely been reported, also previous studies reported contradictory results about systemic isotretinoin and its association with hearing system. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether systemic isotretinoin affected on the hearing system or not.

Outcome of Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Units due to Influenza-Related Severe Acute Respiratory Illness in 2017-2018 Flu Season: A Multicenter Study from Turkey.

Background: Influenza can cause severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), which occurs as local outbreaks or seasonal epidemics with high intensive care unit (ICU) admission and mortality rates. Mortality is mainly due to SARI.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of patients admitted to ICU due to influenza-related SARI in 2017-2018 flu season in Turkey.

We evaluated the symptoms, changes in laboratory findings during the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, and the effect of depression in patients with peritoneal dialysis (PD). This is an observational and cross-sectional study. All patients were asked to fill the clinical assessment form and Beck depression and anxiety inventory.

Development and evaluation of a novel noninvasive index for predicting significant fibrosis, advanced fibrosis, and cirrhosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B infection.

Background And Aims: Development of noninvasive liver fibrosis indexes has been research of interest due to the limitations of liver biopsy. Therefore, we aimed to develop and evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of a novel noninvasive index for predicting significant fibrosis, advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection based on age and routine clinical laboratory tests.

Methods: A total of 396 treatment naïve liver biopsy performed patients were divided into training (n = 262) and validation cohorts (n = 134).

PsART-ID inception cohort: clinical characteristics, treatment choices and outcomes of patients with psoriatic arthritis.

Objectives: Our aim is to understand clinical characteristics, real-life treatment strategies, outcomes of early PsA patients and determine the differences between the inception and established PsA cohorts.

Methods: PsArt-ID (Psoriatic Arthritis- International Database) is a multicentre registry. From that registry, patients with a diagnosis of PsA up to 6 months were classified as the inception cohort (n==388).

Nation-wide analysis of the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on daily urology practice in Turkey.

Objective: To present a nation-wide analysis of the workload of urology departments in Turkey week-by-week during Covid-19 pandemic.

Methodology: The centres participating in the study were divided into three groups as tertiary referral centres, state hospitals and private practice hospitals. The number of outpatients, inpatients, daily interventions and urological surgeries were recorded prospectively between 9-March-2020 and 31-May-2020.

Effect of X-Ray Irradiation on Some Analgesics, Anti-Diabetics, PPI'S, Anti-Hypertensives, Heart Failure Drugs in Tablet and Capsule Forms.

X-ray is an ionizing-radiation and it has been used in many processes due to the developing technology. For security purposes, X-ray instruments are been using at the entrance of the airports, shopping centers, etc. In this study, potential effects of X-ray were investigated on five different types of drugs: analgesics (acetaminophen, acetylsalicylic acid, naproxen, flurbiprofen), proton pump inhibitors (lansoprazole, pantoprazole sodium sesquihydrate), anti-diabetics (metformin HCl, pioglitazone), heart failure drugs (verapamil HCl, spironolactone) and anti-hypertensives (losartan, clopidogrel hydrogen sulphate) by several different methods.

The impact of arteriovenous fistulas and tunneled cuffed venous catheters on morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients: A single center experience.

Background/aim: Hemodialysis is the most used renal replacement therapy option for patients with end-stage renal disease. Arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) and tunnel-cuffed venous catheters (tCVC) are commonly used vascular access routes and have advantages and disadvantages compared to each other. This study focuses on the effects of AVFs and tCVCs on morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients.

Role of Point-of-Care Lung and Inferior Vena Cava Ultrasound in Clinical Decisions for Patients Presenting to the Emergency Department With Symptoms of Acute Decompensated Heart Failure.

Objectives: This prospective study was performed to evaluate the diagnostic role of point-of-care lung ultrasound (LUS) and inferior vena cava (IVC) ultrasound in patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF).

Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted between January 2018 and November 2018 on patients with a diagnosis of ADHF in the emergency department (ED). On admission, LUS findings, inspiratory and expiratory IVC diameters, and the inferior vena cava collapsibility index (IVCCI) were obtained.

The effectiveness of oropharyngeal exercises compared to inspiratory muscle training in obstructive sleep apnea: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) and oropharyngeal exercises (OE) have different advantages and disadvantages and a comparison of these modalities has been recommended. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of IMT and OE on important outcomes for patients with OSAS.

Methods: This was a randomized controlled clinical trial.

Aim: Influenza vaccination is the most effective method in prevention of influenza disease and its complications. Our study aimed to investigate the rates of vaccination and the behaviours and attitudes against the vaccine in healthcare workers in Turkey.

Methods: This multicentre national survey is a descriptive study in which 12 475 healthcare workers.

Musculoskeletal Injuries in Master Swimmers: A National Survey in Turkey.

Background This study aimed to determine the frequency of musculoskeletal injuries in master swimmers in Turkey. Methods A questionnaire was formed and distributed to all master swimmers registered with the Turkish Swimming Federation. The collected data included age, sex, the age to start swimming (SAS), weekly training time (WTT), weekly training distance (WTD), any painful episode that lasted more than 10 days in any of the body regions within last one year, any confirmed diagnosis of musculoskeletal disease by a physician, and history of musculoskeletal surgical operation.

Increased monocyte to HDL cholesterol ratio in vitamin B12 deficiency: Is it related to cardiometabolic risk?

Vitamin B12 deficiency may have indirect cardiovascular effects in addition to hematological and neuropsychiatric symptoms. It was shown that the monocyte count-to-high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio (MHR) is a novel cardiovascular marker. In this study, the aim was to evaluate whether MHR was high in patients with vitamin B12 deficiency and its relationship with cardiometabolic risk factors.

Comparing the effectiveness of ultrasound guided blind genicular nerve block on pain, muscle strength with isokinetic device, physical function and quality of life in chronic knee osteoarthritis: a prospective randomized controlled study.

Background: The genicular nerve block (GNB) is demonstrated from several reports to alleviate pain and improve knee functionality in patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis (OA). Ultrasound (US)-guided GNB has been the most used imaging method. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of US-guided versus blind GNB in the treatment of knee OA.

Effects of diaphragm thickness on rehabilitation outcomes in post-ICU patients with spinal cord and brain injury.

Background: Intensive care unit (ICU) complications affect outcomes but it remains unknown if the diaphragm thickness affects rehabilitation outcomes after ICU. We conducted a pilot study to evaluate the effect of diaphragm thickness on rehabilitation outcomes of post-ICU patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) and to evaluate factors that may be associated with diaphragm atrophy.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-one patients (26 SCI, 25 TBI) who admitted to the rehabilitation clinic from the ICU included in this study.

Comparison of Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery and Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy Used in the Treatment of 2-4 cm Kidney Stones in Terms of Pain and Need for Additional Analgesics: A Prospective Randomized Study.

To compare the effects of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) on postoperative pain and their differences in terms of the postoperative need for analgesics in the treatment of 2-4 cm kidney stones. A total of 132 patients who suffered from renal stones 2-4 cm in size and had surgery at our urology clinic between April 2015 and April 2017 were enrolled in this prospective study (NCT02430168). Patients were randomized into either the RIRS group (Group 1) or PNL group (Group 2) in a ratio of 1:1.

Blocking VEGF by Bevacizumab Attenuates VEGF-Induced Vasospasm After Experimental Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in Rabbits.

Objective: Vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) plays a vital role in the development of delayed cerebral ischemia. Anti- vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antibodies, like bevacizumab (BEV), may attenuate VEGF-stimulated angiogenesis, reduced vascular cell proliferation, and improve vasospasm after SAH.

Methods: Thirty-two adult male New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups of 8 rabbits in each group: group 1 (control); group 2 (SAH); group 3 (SAH + vehicle); and group 4 (SAH + BEV).

Validity and Reliability of the Assessment Tool for Asthma (ATA) Questionnaire: the ATA Study.

Objectives: A multicenter trial was designed to validate the "Assessment Tools for Asthma (ATA)" questionnaire, a newly developed questionnaire, which evaluates both asthma control and risk factors associated with asthma control with a single instrument.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 810 cases from 14 clinics in 9 Turkish cities. The ATA questionnaire and Asthma Control Test (ACT) were administered.
