Protective effects of tadalafil and N-acetyl cysteine therapy on cisplatin-induced testicular toxicity.

Purpose: To investigate whether tadalafil (TAD) and N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) can prevent cisplatin (CIS)-induced testicular toxicity.

Methods: Forty Wistar-Albino rats were divided into five groups: Control group, CIS group, TAD group, NAC group and TAD + NAC group. All groups were compared regarding body and testicular weights, testicular volumes, blood testosterone levels, testicular tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, histopathological features, and testicular Cosentino and Johnsen scores.

Valency of cystatin C and creatinine on troponin values in chronic kidney disease patients with chest pain in emergency department.

Objective: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients with chest pain (CP) should receive special attention in the emergency department (ED). Evaluating troponin levels is highly confusing. This study aims to compare Cystatin C (CysC) and creatinine on troponin results in CKD patients with CP in ED.

Serum Biomarkers IL-6 and HIF-1α in Rosacea: Assessing Their Significance in Disease Pathogenesis and Telangiectasia Formation.

Introduction: Rosacea, a chronic inflammatory disease primarily affecting the central area of the face, is a complex condition whose mechanisms are still not fully understood. However, research has indicated a positive correlation between two molecules: hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). The levels of HIF-1α in rosacea patients have yet to be assessed.

Attitudes toward and exposure to gender discrimination in work life by pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons: a questionnaire-based survey among Turkish thoracic society members.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate attitudes toward and exposure to gender discrimination in work life by chest diseases specialists and thoracic surgeons.

Methods: A total of 275 members of Turkish Thoracic Society (TTS) were included on a voluntary basis in this online cross-sectional questionnaire-survey using an internal member-only social media platform of TTS. The questionnaire form elicited items on sociodemographic characteristics, occupational characteristics and gender discrimination in work life (general opinions, attitudes and exposure).

Regional variations in psoriatic arthritis: Insights from a nationwide multicenter analysis in Türkiye.

Objectives: The study aimed to investigate and compare clinical features, disease activity, and the overall disease burden among psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients across seven distinct geographic regions in Türkiye.

Patients And Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study involving 1,134 PsA patients from 25 referral centers across seven regions was conducted. Demographic and clinical characteristics, comorbidities, joint involvement, extra-articular manifestations, and disease activity measures were evaluated across regions.

Survival Outcomes of Patients with Primary Plasma Cell Leukemia in the Era of Proteasome Inhibitors and Immunomodulatory Agents: A Real-Life Multicenter Analysis.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to obtain real-life data on the use of antimyeloma agents, which significantly increase overall survival (OS) in multiple myeloma (MM) patients, in primary plasma cell leukemia (pPCL) patients with poor prognosis.

Materials And Methods: Data from 53 patients who were diagnosed with pPCL between 2011 and 2020 and who used at least one proteasome inhibitor (PI) and/or immunomodulatory (IMID) agent were analyzed retrospectively. Depending on the year of the pPCL diagnosis, 20% leukocytes or ≥2x10/L plasma cells in the peripheral blood was used as a diagnostic criterion.

The relationship between mutation carriage of BRCA1/2 and clinicopathological characteristics in women with breast cancer - experience from a diagnostic centre in Turkey.

The 5-10% of breast cancers (BC) are hereditary, and BRCA1/2 are causative in 25% of those inherited. It was aimed to examine the BRCA1/2 genotype-BC phenotype relationship. In 170 female patients with BC, BRCA1/2 genes were investigated using Next Generation Sequencing.

A rare patient with Parkinson's disease presenting with isolated progressive micrographia.

Although handwriting impairment is a frequent sign of Parkinson's disease (PD), its significance in the evaluation processes of these patients may be overlooked among physicians. Therefore, we would like to report an illustrative patient who presented with isolated micrographia initially; but received the diagnosis of PD in the follow-up.

An analysis of radiologic and anatomical parameters associated with medial osteochondral lesions of the talus in non-traumatic cases.

The study aimed to provide a comprehensive analysis of radiological and anatomical measurements in patients with medial osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT), particularly those without a history of trauma. The retrospective cross sectional study evaluated 23 medial OLT individuals aged 18-45 with no history of trauma who were identified by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) between 2016 and 2020. The control group consisted of 27 individuals between the ages of 18 and 45 who did not have OLT and applied for other reasons.

Physical Activity, Kinesiophobia, Pain Catastrophizing, Body Awareness, Depression and Disease Activity in Patients With Ankylosing Spondylitis and Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Cross-Sectional Explorative Study.

Objective/aim: The aim was to compare the levels of physical activity, kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, body awareness, and depression in patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and to explore the associations between these outcomes and disease activity.

Methods: Seventy-eight patients with AS (n = 30) and RA (n = 48) were included. Outcomes were assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form, the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, the Pain Catastrophizing Scale, the Body Awareness Questionnaire, and the Beck Depression Inventory.

The Effect of Glutathione on Development and Prognosis in Non-Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer.

Glutathione, along with its related enzymes, constitutes a key antioxidant defense mechanism against oxidative stress and cancer formation in the body. Among urological malignancies, bladder cancer ranks second following prostate cancer. Oxidative stress has significant involvement in the development and prognosis of bladder cancer.

Evaluation and follow-up of patients diagnosed with hypophysitis: a cohort study.

Objective: Primary hypophysitis might be challenging to diagnose, and there is a lack of evidence regarding optimal treatment strategies due to rarity of the disease. We aim to investigate the clinical features and compare the outcomes of different management strategies of primary hypophysitis in a large group of patients recruited on a nationwide basis.

Serum Calprotectin Levels in Vitiligo Patients and Disease Relation.

Introduction: Vitiligo is characterized as melanocyte loss in skin and mucous membranes, the pathogenesis of which has not yet been clarified. Calprotectin is a protein secreted from neutrophils, monocytes, and dendritic cells which has an effect on cytokine receptor regulation and the production of reactive oxygen radicals. It has been the subject of research in various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, yet not investigated in vitiligo.

Comparison of topical 5% NaCl versus 10% Mannitol for the treatment of corneal edema after phacoemulsification.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of topical 5% Sodium Chloride (NaCl) and 10% Mannitol agents in managing corneal edema following uncomplicated cataract surgery.

Methods: Patients with postoperative corneal edema were enrolled, and they were divided into three groups for comparison. Anterior chamber depth (ACD), axial length (AL), intraocular lens (IOL) power, cumulative dissipated energy (CDE), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central corneal thickness (CCT), and endothelial cell count (ECC) were assessed among the groups.

Factors affecting mortality in COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis: An international ID-IRI study.

Background: This study aimed to identify factors that influence the mortality rate of patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA).

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, data from 23 centers across 15 countries, spanning the period of March 2020 to December 2021, were retrospectively collected. The study population comprised patients who developed invasive pulmonary aspergillosis while being treated for COVID-19 in the intensive care unit.

The recovery of sympathetic skin responses with levodopa in a patient with multiple system atrophy-parkinsonian type.

Herein, we report a 62-year-old female patient with Multiple system atrophy (MSA) at whom the sympathetic skin responses (SSRs) were absent at initial investigations. However, the levodopa therapy provided normalization of SSRs and moderately improvement in orthostatic hypotension-related symptoms. Based on this rare illustration, we discuss the possible mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of autonomic dysfunction in MSA.
