Introduction: Breast cancer liver metastasis presents a significant challenge in clinical oncology, with limited treatment options and poor prognosis. This case series study explores the extended survival achieved in breast cancer patients with liver metastases through a combination of surgical and medical interventions.

Case Presentation: We present three cases of Javanese female patients with breast cancer (51 years old, 42 years old, and 55 years old) with liver metastases who underwent hepatic resection followed by systemic therapy.

Objective: Management of Differences of Sex Development (DSD) is complex and in resource limited settings the psychosexual and psychosocial aspects of DSD care have received limited attention. This review aims to explore recent literature on psychosocial care of DSD in low and upper middle-income countries (L/UMIC).

Materials And Methods: Scientific databases were searched and papers on management of DSD were reviewed according to predefined inclusion criteria.

Impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the field of hematopoietic cell transplantation in the Asia-Pacific region: APBMT Activity Survey 2020/2021.

Blood Cell Ther

November 2024

Japanese Data Center for Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (JDCHCT), Department of Registry Science for Transplant and Cellular Therapy, Aichi Medical University School of Medicine, Nagakute, Japan.

COVID-19 became a global pandemic in 2020 and significantly affected the activity of hematopoietic cell transplants (HCT) worldwide. Despite these challenges, a total of 28,793 transplants, including 18,518 allogeneic and 10,275 autologous transplants, were performed in 719 facilities in 2020 in the Asia-Pacific (AP) region. This represented a 5.

Purpose: This study aimed to develop a statistical approach for edge spread function (ESF) phase alignment to improve the accuracy of modulation transfer function (MTF) measurements at the edges of computed tomography (CT) images.

Methods: A statistical approach to ESF phase alignment was initiated by collecting ESF samples with poor phase alignment. One ESF sample was selected as the reference ESF and the other as the treated ESF.

Article Synopsis
  • - Metastatic breast cancer, particularly disseminated carcinomatosis of bone marrow (DCBM), is rare and poses a serious threat to life, with a focus on managing symptoms and improving quality of life rather than finding a cure.
  • - A case study is presented of a 36-year-old woman diagnosed with luminal breast cancer who experienced severe symptoms due to DCBM; she was initially treated with tamoxifen but later switched to letrozole, ribociclib, and leuprorelin due to side effects.
  • - The treatment adjustment led to significant improvements in her blood markers, symptoms, and overall quality of life, suggesting that combining endocrine therapy with a CDK4/6 inhibitor could be an effective

Background: Severe fatigue and cognitive complaints are frequently reported after SARS-CoV-2 infection and may be accompanied by depressive symptoms and/or limitations in physical functioning. The long-term sequelae of COVID-19 may be influenced by biomedical, psychological, and social factors, the interplay of which is largely understudied over time. We aimed to investigate how the interplay of these factors contribute to the persistence of symptoms after COVID-19.

Article Synopsis
  • * The method involves placing a region of interest (ROI) that rotates 360° to calculate average CT numbers and determine the center of the low-contrast object, leading to more precise CNR calculations.
  • * Compared to an older threshold-based approach, the new method achieved a 100% success rate in accurately placing the ROI across multiple phantom rotations and tube currents, while the previous method only succeeded 58% of the time.

It is well known that seaplanes have twin floaters. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a wind tunnel test that aims to determine the performance of twin floaters paired on a mock aircraft model. The twin floaters use the same scale as the mock aircraft, which is 1:6.

Deep-intronic (DI) variants represent approximately 10%-12% of disease-causing genetic defects in -associated Stargardt disease (STGD1). Although many of these DI variants are amenable to antisense oligonucleotide-based splicing-modulation therapy, no treatment is currently available. These molecules are mostly variant specific, limiting their applicability to a broader patient population.

Background: Superoxide dismutase (SOD) can be decreased and malondialdehyde (MDA) can be increased in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) as a result of reactive oxygen species (ROS) brought on by cisplatin. Astaxanthin is one of the external antioxidants required to combat ROS by raising SOD and lowering MDA. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that astaxanthin can raise SOD and lower MDA in patients with HNC caused by cisplatin.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on the environmental factors affecting leptospirosis cases in Klaten Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, analyzing data from 2018 to describe both abiotic and biotic influences.
  • - Key abiotic factors linked to higher leptospirosis incidence included poor waste disposal, bad gutter conditions, close rivers, and a history of flooding, while the biotic factors showed that all cases were associated with rat nests, along with some homes having pets and multiple vegetation types.
  • - The findings suggest a strong need for rat control programs and public education to improve environmental cleanliness, highlighting the importance of collaboration between sectors like agriculture and health to combat leptospirosis outbreaks.

Gasification of soaked biomass is a novel approach to saving cost and time of conditioning feedstock. It may have disadvantages on gasification temperature since an open-downdraft gasifier requires a zone with high temperature to maintain endothermic gasification processes. Heat is generated by exothermic reaction in the gasifier.

Bangka Belitung islands have long been major tin producers, impacting the environment, including coastal ecosystems. Tin extraction from the seabed increases water turbidity and alters chemical composition, adversely affecting seagrass meadows. This study investigated the ecological condition of seagrass meadows around sea-based tin mining activities on the islands.

Background: The presentation of mineral bone disorder (MBD) in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) may vary. Consequently, physicians should be capable of recognising this condition when there is a suspicion of its existence. This case report will describe a calcified maxilla tumour as a manifestation of CKD-MBD.

Objective: Graves' disease (GD) is characterized by thyroid overactivity. Anti-thyroid drugs (ATDs), such as propylthiouracil (PTU) and methimazole (MMI), are commonly used for GD treatment, and studies have suggested a link between these drugs and elevated lipoprotein levels. However, data on their effects on lipoproteins, insulin resistance, or low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDL-R) levels are lacking, both in Indonesia and in other countries.

Introduction: Nausea and vomiting are distressing symptoms experienced by cancer patients undergoing treatment, impacting their physical well-being and quality of life. Serotonin, a neurotransmitter known for its role in regulating mood and gastrointestinal function, has been implicated in chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). This study aimed to investigate serotonin level differences between CINV and non-CINV groups among cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Clinical Practice Guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with biliary tract cancer (BTC), published in late 2022 were adapted in December 2023, according to established standard methodology, to produce the Pan-Asian adapted (PAGA) ESMO consensus guidelines for the management of Asian patients with BTC. The adapted guidelines presented in this manuscript represent the consensus opinions reached by a panel of Asian experts in the treatment of patients with BTC representing the oncological societies of China (CSCO), Indonesia (ISHMO), India (ISMPO), Japan (JSMO), Korea (KSMO), Malaysia (MOS), the Philippines (PSMO), Singapore (SSO), Taiwan (TOS) and Thailand (TSCO), co-ordinated by ESMO and the Taiwan Oncology Society (TOS). The voting was based on scientific evidence and was independent of the current treatment practices, drug access restrictions and reimbursement decisions in the different regions of Asia.
