Intravenous iodinated contrast media are commonly used in clinical practice, ranging from medical imaging to interventional radiology (IR) procedures and endovascular interventions. Compared with patients with normal renal function, nephropathic patients have an increased risk of acute kidney injury (AKI). Nevertheless, this condition cannot represent a limit to diagnostics or endovascular interventions.

Sleep disorders are very common in patients with chronic kidney disease, with a prevalence of poor sleep quality of around 40%. The purpose of the study is to compare the sleep quality of ESRD patients before hemodialysis (Pre-HD), three months (Post-HD 1) and six months after the start of treatment (Post-HD 2) through the use of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Patients in ESRD were recruited from the U.

Converging, albeit scattered data mainly gathered in animals indicate that the neurotrophin brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and the nonapeptide oxytocin (OT) interact in a cooperative way. Data in humans are really limited and indirect. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to explore the possible existence of a link between OT and BDNF in humans, by means of two peripheral markers, the platelet-poor-plasmatic-BDNF (PPP-BDNF) and the platelet BDNF (PLT-BDNF) and OT levels.

Introduction: The achievement of alimentary competencies is a milestone in the development of preterm neonates. Ten percent of neonates <37 weeks of gestational age and 25% of those VLBW experience swallowing disorders, with an increased risk of problems in the early phase of life (failure to thrive, growth retardation, inhalation, and consequent risk of pulmonary infection) and later in life due to delayed development of oromotor skills. The main diagnostic tools for swallowing disorders are endoscopic (fiber-optic endoscopic examination of swallowing, FEES) or radiographic (videofluoroscopic swallowing study, VFSS) exams.

Objectives: Opioid use disorder (OUD) and cancer gained attention as co-occurring diseases in the last 2 decades due to the possible relationship between opioid prescriptions for cancer pain and the risk of developing substance use disorder in cancer patients. However, little is known about patients previously diagnosed with OUD who develop cancer and how to manage both OUD symptoms and control pain.
Methods: The present case series deals with this subpopulation and proposes a dose escalation of methadone to control both the cancer-related pain and drug addiction symptoms.

Arterial hypertension is the most prevalent cardiovascular risk factor worldwide. Despite the availability of many and effective antihypertensive medications, the prevalence of uncontrolled blood pressure (BP) remains high. As sympathetic hyperactivity has long been recognized as a major contributor to resistant hypertension, catheter-based renal denervation (RDN) has emerged as a new strategy to reduce BP.

Background And Purpose: Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRv) is a life-threatening disease caused by mutations in the gene encoding transthyretin (TTR). The recent therapeutic advances have underlined the importance of easily accessible, objective biomarkers of both disease onset and progression. Preliminary evidence suggests a potential role in this respect for neurofilament light chain (NfL).

Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) hypersensitivity still represents one of the major deals for patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASHD), especially for those requiring percutaneous coronary interventions in the absence of validated alternative options. Despite symptoms after ASA administration being reported in 6-20% of cases, true ASA allergy only represents a minority of the patients, pointing to the importance of challenge tests and potential strategies for tolerance induction. ASA desensitization protocols were proposed several decades ago, with accumulating the literature on their use in patients undergoing PCI either for chronic disease or acute coronary syndromes.

Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are at higher risk of restenosis and stent thrombosis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and drug-eluting stent (DES) positioning. Whether drug-coated balloons (DCB) can offer any benefit in this subset of patients has been seldom cleared out and was the aim of the present propensity-matched cohort study, that compared the prognostic impact of DCB versus DES in patients with DM who underwent PCI. Patients with DM enrolled in the NOvara-BIella-TREnto (NOBITRE) Registry were identified and matched according to propensity score, to a control population of patients with DM treated with DES.

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a heritable heart muscle disorder with fibro-fatty replacement that involves the right ventricle and in the advanced phases could become biventricular. Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is characterized by reversible systolic dysfunction occurring after a stressful event and independent of the underlying coronary artery disease. A 70-year-old female with family history of sudden cardiac death and a previous diagnosis of biventricular ARVC presented to the emergency department after experiencing chest pain and elevation of myocardial enzymes.

The implementation of analytical techniques able to certify food quality and origin in a fast and non-destructive way is becoming a widespread need in the agri-food sector. Among the physical non-destructive techniques, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry is often used to analyze the elemental composition of biological samples. In this study, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) elemental profiles were measured on tomato samples belonging to different geographical areas in Sicily (Italy).

Abnormal venous atrial (VA) connections present a congenital heart disease (CHD) challenge for pediatric cardiologists. Fully anatomical evaluation is very difficult in prenatal and perinatal follow-up, but it has a profound impact on surgical correction and outcome. The echocardiogram is first-line imaging and represents the gold standard tool for simple abnormal VA connection.

Introduction: Hypercholesterolemia is one of the main risk factors associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease. Statins are the standard cholesterollowering treatment; however, they have shown, in clinical practice, a reduced adherence to therapy (<50%) and a modest achievement of the expected outcomes for treatment. This condition prompt scientific research to develop drugs with different mechanisms of action.

Mistreated fish products ingestion can lead to a histaminergic illness known as scombroid syndrome. The disease usually causes cutaneous rash, gastrointestinal, breathing disorders, hypotension with further histamine-related symptoms. Although cardiac complications are infrequent, some patients experienced chest pain consistent with an acute coronary syndrome on admission to hospital.

The death of a loved one is a universal experience, and marker of the human condition. Grief, the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral responses to bereavement, is both a ubiquitous and a unique psychological process. Thus, health providers often find themselves in a dilemma, caught between the need to alleviate an individual's distress and impairment, and the danger of overly "pathologizing" their grief reaction.

Neuroblastoma is the most recurring cancer in childhood and adolescence. The SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cell line is generally adopted for elaborating new therapeutical approaches and/or elaborating strategies for the prevention of central nervous system disturbances. In fact, it represents a valid model system for investigating in vitro the effects on the brain of X-ray exposure using vibrational spectroscopies that can detect early radiation-induced molecular alterations of potential clinical usefulness.
