Non-A non-B aortic dissection (AAD) is an infrequently documented condition, comprising of only a small proportion of all AADs. The unique anatomy of the aortic arch and the failure of the existing classifications to adequately define individuals with non-A non-B AAD, have led to an ongoing controversy around the topic. It seems that the clinical progression of acute non-A non-B AAD diverges from the typical type A and B dissections, frequently leading to serious complications and thus mandating early intervention.

Introduction: The Altura aortic endograft for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) consists of two separate components with a proximal double D-shaped design. The braided endoskeleton of the endograft is attached only at the proximal and distal ends of the inner surface of the fabric resulting in adjustable length of the Altura components. To ensure optimal orientation and sealing, the design of Altura permits collapse, readjustment, and deployment of the repositioned D-shaped endografts.

The Delphi and GRADE methodology used in the PSOGI 2018 consensus statement on Pseudomyxoma Peritonei and Peritoneal Mesothelioma.

Eur J Surg Oncol

January 2021

Department of Surgery, Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Unit, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Dei Tumori di Milano, Via Giacomo Venezian 1, Milano, Milan Cap, 20133, Italy. Electronic address:

Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) and Peritoneal Mesothelioma (PM) are both rare peritoneal malignancies. Currently, affected patients may be treated with Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy offering long-term survival or even cure in selected patients. However, many issues regarding the optimal treatment strategy are currently under debate.

Background: Peritoneal metastasis from biliary carcinoma (PMC) is associated with poor prognosis when treated with chemotherapy.

Objective: To evaluate the impact on survival of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), and compare with conventional palliative chemotherapy for patients with PMC.

Material And Methods: A prospective multicenter international database was retrospectively searched to identify all patients with PMC treated with a potentially curative CRS/HIPEC (CRS/HIPEC group).

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the gold standard treatment of gallbladder disease. Post-cholecystectomy syndrome is a severe postoperative complication which can be caused by multiple mechanisms and can present with multiple disorders. The wide use of laparoscopy induces the need to understand more clearly the presentation and pathophysiology of this syndrome.

Purpose: Cytoreductive surgery and perioperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy in the treatment of patients with peritoneal malignancy is expensive. The purpose of this study was to estimate the current cost of cytoreductive surgery combined with perioperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy and identify the most significant related parameters in one center in Greece.

Methods: A retrospective economic study was carried out on 105 patients that underwent 108 cytoreductive operations and hyperthermic intraoperative peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) from 2006-2011 for peritoneal malignancy.

The relationship between E2F family members and tumor growth in colorectal adenocarcinomas: A comparative immunohistochemical study of 100 cases.

*Laboratory of Histology and Embryology, School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens †Laboratory of Anatomy, School of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace, Alexandroupolis ‡Department of Surgery, Didimotichon General Hospital, Didimotichon, Greece.

The mammalian E2F family of transcription factors comprises a group of 8 proteins, which either activate or repress transcription of numerous target genes, playing a role in cell-cycle progression and apoptosis. We have collectively investigated the immunohistochemical expression of E2F1, E2F2, and E2F4 transcription factors and their relation to cell kinetic parameters using serial section analysis in a series of 100 cases of human colorectal adenocarcinomas. E2F1 and E2F4 expressed nuclear immunopositivity in all cases.

April 2013

Surgical Department, Didimotichon General Hospital, Diagnostiko Center of Pathology, Didimotichon, Greece.

Background: Multicystic peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare disease. It is not certain if it is a benign or a borderline tumor. Although many therapeutic approaches have been used, complete cytoreductive surgery in combination with hyperthermic intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy has gained acceptance.

Background: Retroperitoneal schwannomas are very rare and are usually found incidentally.

Cases Report: Two rare cases of retroperitoneal schwannomas are reported. Both were incidentally found during US scans for non-specific epigastric pain and were initially diagnosed as non-secreting retroperitoneal tumors.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the results of gastric cancer surgery in patients who had undergone potentially curative gastrectomy.

Methods: The hospital mortality, morbidity, survival, recurrences and the sites of failure were retrospectively analyzed in D1 group (conventional gastrectomy), and in D2 group (extended lymph node resection).

Results: D1 and D2 groups were comparable for age, gender, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class, type of surgery, and histopathologic characteristics (p>0.

The purpose of the study was to assess the feasibility and the effect of cytoreduction and perioperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy in recurrent ovarian cancer.

Patients And Methods: Twenty-nine women with recurrent ovarian cancer underwent cytoreductive surgery.

Purpose: Clinical, histopathological, and biological differences between right and left colon carcinomas have been questioned in the literature. The purpose of this retrospective study was to identify possible clinical and histopathological differences between the right and left colon carcinomas.

Methods: From 1987-2007, 109 patients with right colon carcinomas (RC group), and 186 patients with left colon carcinomas (LC group) were treated at a single institution.

Purpose: The incidence of locoregional recurrence in rectal cancer has declined since total mesorectal excision (TME) has been widely adopted. The purpose of this study was to investigate the long-term survival and the incidence of locoregional recurrences in patients with middle and low rectal carcinomas undergoing TME.

Methods: The medical records of 126 patients with middle and low rectal carcinomas treated from 1987-2007 were retrospectively reviewed.
