A new, simple and rapid spectrophotometric method was developed for determination of Sudan Black B in food products by supramolecular solvent-based-vortex-assisted-dispersive liquid liquid microextraction (SUPRAS-VA-DLLME). Extraction solvent type, volume of solvent, pH, volume of THF, centrifugation time, vortex time, and sample volume were investigated as optimization parameters of the developed method. Under the optimum conditions, limit of detection and limit of quantification, preconcentration factor and enhancement factor of the developed method were calculated to be 9.

Shehata technique versus Fowler-Stephens orchidopexy in intra-abdominal testis: A meta-analysis.

J Pediatr Urol

October 2024

Pediatric Surgery Unit, Alexandria Faculty of Medicine, Egypt; Pediatric Surgery Meta-Analysis Study Group (PeSMA), Turkey.

Introduction: The management of intra-abdominal testis (IAT) represents a significant clinical challenge, necessitating the transposition of the testis from the abdominal cavity to the scrotum. This procedure is rendered complex by the abbreviated length of the testicular vessels.

Objective: Our purpose in this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing Shehata technique (ST) versus Fowler Stephens technique (FST) in treating patients with IAT.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on 17α Hydroxylase/17,20 Lyase Deficiency (17OHD), a rare form of adrenal hyperplasia, highlighting its clinical features such as delayed puberty and hypertension commonly diagnosed in late adolescence.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 97 cases across the country, revealing that hypertension was present in 65% and hypokalemia in 34% of patients, with a significant number requiring antihypertensive treatment.
  • The findings suggest that early diagnosis can be guided by hypertension and hypokalemia, while the final heights of patients generally fall within normal ranges, though the connection between genetic mutations and clinical outcomes remains unclear.

Emphysematous hepatitis (EH) is a rare, insidious, rapidly progressing, and often fatal liver infection characterized by diffuse air in the liver parenchyma. While infectious parenchymal diseases can affect many intra-abdominal organs such as the kidney, urinary bladder, gall bladder, stomach, and pancreas, liver involvement is uncommon. Few cases of EH have been reported in the literature, with only four successfully treated.

Background And Aim: This study aimed to define the relapse frequency and risk determinants in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients who discontinued nucleoside analog (NA) treatment, were HBeAg-negative, and had achieved both a virological and biochemical response.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study reviewed patients with HBeAg-negative CHB who received antiviral therapy for at least 65 months between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2020. These patients discontinued treatment after demonstrating a biochemical and virological response and were evaluated at 6, 12, and 24 months post-treatment discontinuation.

Erythropoietin (EPO) has neuroprotective effects by increasing oxidative stress resistance and stabilizing redox balance. Ischemic-modified albumin (IMA) is a product of protein oxidation, and recent evidence suggests that IMA can be used as an indicator of oxidative damage. This study aimed to investigate serum EPO and IMA levels in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients and to investigate the relationship between EPO and IMA levels and clinical variables such as disease duration and disease severity.

  • The study investigates how climate change affects pollen levels and aims to enhance pollen forecasting using advanced models like CatBoost and deep learning across 23 cities worldwide.
  • The results show that cities like Mexico City and Santiago have the most accurate pollen forecasts, while Brisbane and Seoul perform poorly, highlighting key environmental factors that influence pollen concentrations.
  • Understanding which environmental variables are most significant for pollen predictions can improve the accuracy of forecasts, making this research valuable for public health and environmental planning.

  • The study analyzes data from the CF Registry of Turkey to measure the rate of decline in pulmonary function (ppFEV1) among cystic fibrosis patients and identifies risk factors related to this decline.
  • It found that patients with more severe disease (ppFEV1 < 40) had poorer nutritional status and a higher prevalence of chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection compared to those with better lung function.
  • The results emphasize the need for regular monitoring of patients with normal initial ppFEV1 and early treatment for P. aeruginosa infections, highlighting the crucial role of proper nutrition in managing cystic fibrosis.

The expression of intermediate filaments in the abomasum of ruminants: A comparative study.

Anat Histol Embryol

July 2024

Department of Histology and Embryology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Dicle University, Diyarbakır, Turkey.

Intermediate filaments (IFs) are key molecular factors of the cell and have been reported to play an important role in maintaining the structural integrity and functionality of the abomasum. This study was designed to determine the regional distribution, cellular localization and expression of several IFs, including CK8, CK18, CK19, vimentin, desmin, peripherin and nestin, as well as the connective tissue component laminin, in the bovine, ovine and caprine abomasa. Immunohistochemical analyses demonstrated varying levels of expression of CK8, CK18, CK19, vimentin, desmin, nestin, peripherin and laminin in the bovine, ovine and caprine abomasa.
