Objective: The effect of antiviral drugs on the erectile dysfunction (ED) problem expressed by some patients using antiviral drugs due to chronic hepatitis B infection (HBV) was investigated.

Methods: A total of 102 male patients receiving antiviral therapy for HBVinfection without any known non-cirrhotic and comorbid disease that may cause ED and whodon't use any drugs with an ED formation potential were analyzed through the InternationalIndex of Erectile Function test.

Results: Among the patients admitted to the study, anxiety disorder was detected as 24.

Background: Diagnosis of early mycosis fungoides (eMF) is challenging and often delayed as many of its clinical and histopathologic features may mimic various benign inflammatory dermatoses (BIDs). The products of the thymocyte selection-associated high mobility group box (TOX), twist family BHLH transcription factor 1 (TWIST1), signal transducer and activator of transcription 4 (STAT4), and special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 1 (SATB1) genes function as transcription factors and are involved in the pathogenesis of MF.

Objectives: We aim to determine the diagnostic value of TOX, TWIST1, STAT4, and SATB1 protein expressions in eMF.

  • Congenital insensitivity to pain (CIP) and hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathies (HSAN) are rare disorders affecting sensory and autonomic neurons, making them hard to study due to limited data.
  • A large international study identified 80 new pathogenic variants in 73 families across known CIP/HSAN-related genes, expanding knowledge on these diseases.
  • Advanced methodologies like in silico predictions and metabolic tests improved variant classification, crucial for guiding future gene-specific treatments in clinical trials.

Background: Congestion is the main cause of morbidity and a prime determinant of survival in patients with heart failure (HF). However, the assessment of congestion is subjective and estimation of plasma volume (ePV) has been suggested as a more objective measure of congestion. This study aimed to explore the relationships and interactions between ePV, the severity of congestion and survival using a nationwide registry.

Dissected interventricular septal aneurysm is a rare complication that occurs in conditions such as acute myocardial infarction, sinus valsalva aneurysm, infective endocarditis, thoracic trauma, pericardiocentesis and balloon angioplasty. Only two cases of dissected interventricular septal aneurysm secondary to coronary fistula have been described in the literature. Here, we present a case of dissected interventricular septal aneurysm secondary to congenital coronary fistula.

Characteristic ultrasound features of large cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumor (LCCSCT), including hypoechoic masses with amorphous coarse calcifications can aid in differentiating this tumor from other entities. Bilateral multiple LCCSCTs almost always show a benign course; therefore, defining the diagnosis with sonographic findings is crucial to avoid unnecessary orchiectomy.

Introduction: The results from 2 phase 3 studies, through 2 years, in chronic hepatitis B infection showed tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) had similar efficacy to tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) with superior renal and bone safety. We report updated results through 5 years.

Methods: Patients with HBeAg-negative or HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B infection with or without compensated cirrhosis were randomized (2:1) to TAF 25 mg or TDF 300 mg once daily in double-blind (DB) fashion for up to 3 years, followed by open-label (OL) TAF up to 8 years.

Article Synopsis
  • ALK mutations occur in about 3-5% of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, with pleural involvement or effusion (Ple-I/E) commonly seen in those with ALK positivity.
  • This multicenter study analyzed 362 ALK-positive NSCLC patients, finding that 15.7% had Ple-I/E at diagnosis, with no significant link to gender or other metastases characteristics.
  • Patients with Ple-I/E exhibited significantly better median progression-free survival (18.7 months) and overall survival (44.6 months) compared to those without Ple-I/E, pointing to a potentially more favorable prognosis.

Background: Pheochromocytomas (PHEOs) are a group of tumours that leads to multiple symptoms and can induce hypercoagulability and promote thrombosis. Pheochromocytomas may also present without elevated serum and urinary markers. We aimed to provide tips and tricks for the diagnostic and therapeutic management of an unusual case of PHEOs.

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, Tokyo 113-0033, Japan.

Context: Insulin clearance is implicated in regulation of glucose homeostasis independently of insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion.

Objective: To understand the relation between blood glucose and insulin sensitivity, secretion, and clearance.

Methods: We performed a hyperglycemic clamp, a hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp, and an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in 47, 16, and 49 subjects with normal glucose tolerance (NGT), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), respectively.

Prostate cancer is one of the most often diagnosed malignancies in males and its prevalence is rising in both developed and developing countries. Androgen deprivation therapy has been used as a standard treatment approach for advanced prostate cancer for more than 80 years. The primary aim of androgen deprivation therapy is to decrease circulatory androgen and block androgen signaling.

The demographic and clinical characteristics of patients who have pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants may differ from their relatives who had related cancer. In this study, we aimed to demonstrate the clinical and demographic findings of patients who had -related cancer and to assess the differences comparing their relatives who had -related cancer with breast, genital tract, prostate, and pancreas cancers as well. The results of sequencing analysis of 200 cancer patients (190 women, 10 men) who have been directed to genetic counseling with an indication of testing from different regions across 9 medical oncology centers were retrospectively analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the effectiveness and safety of TAF (tenofovir alafenamide) for chronic hepatitis B over 12 months in a real-life setting across 14 centers in Turkey, involving 480 patients.
  • It found that TAF treatment led to a notable increase in undetectable HBV DNA levels among patients, although the normalization of alanine transaminase (ALT) was not significantly different for those switching from another antiviral drug.
  • The results also indicated significant improvements in kidney and bone function shortly after switching to TAF, suggesting overall benefits for patients receiving this therapy.

The SMA compression is commonly reported to be accompanied by the CA compression caused by the median arcuate ligament (MAL) while the synchronous compression of CA and SMA by other ligaments has been rarely reported.

Case Presentation: In this report, we present a 64-year-old female patient who presented with a postprandial abdominal pain and weight loss.

Article Synopsis
  • Hearing loss (HL) is a common condition linked to over 200 different genes, prompting researchers to use exome and genome sequencing to find genetic causes in 322 families from Asia and Latin America.
  • The study found that variants in the GJB2 gene were present in 58 participants, but these were excluded from further analysis, as were 38 families with syndromic findings, leading to a focus on 212 families for further genetic testing.
  • Exome sequencing revealed 78 variants related to HL in 71 families, with a combined detection rate of 40% using both exome and genome sequencing, the latter proving effective in identifying difficult-to-detect variants in specific genetic regions.
