Background: Virtual surgical planning (VSP) is an emerging method in head and neck reconstruction with demonstrated benefits, however, its economic viability is supported with mixed evidence.
Methods: A structured search was performed in five electronic databases. Studies that performed an economic evaluation on VSP in head and neck reconstruction were included.

While recent research has advanced our understanding of asexuality, very little effort has been devoted to examining biomarkers and possible prenatal correlates of asexuality. In response, we recruited a large international sample (N = 1634 women and men) to explore associations between sibling composition and asexual sexual orientation (n = 366) and to replicate previously reported sibship effects in individuals with a same-sex attracted orientation (n = 276) and bisexual sexual orientation (n = 267) compared to heterosexual individuals (n = 725). Our analyses used two of the most recent statistical approaches that attempt to disentangle older sibling effects from family size effects (Ablaza et al.

Background: Varus posteromedial rotatory instability is a difficult clinical problem to diagnose and treat. Fixation of the anteromedial coronoid fracture is often necessary to achieve elbow stability. We describe an extensile surgical approach to the anteromedial coronoid.

Background: Revisions of total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) may require revision of one or both tibial and femoral components. Our purpose was to examine the clinical and functional outcomes in 1- versus 2-component TKA revisions.
Methods: We identified 92 1-component (tibial or femoral) revisions at a single center.

Virtual surgical planning (VSP) and computer aided design utilization in head and neck reconstruction has become increasingly popular within the discipline. Advocates of the technology over traditional free hand surgery cite benefits including improved intraoperative efficiencies and postoperative outcomes that have been demonstrated during mandibular reconstruction. More recently, VSP for maxillary and mid facial reconstruction, generally considered more complex than their mandibular counterparts, have been applied with the hopes of similar benefits.

Purpose: We sought to determine the safest drill trajectory to avoid injury to the posterior interosseous nerve (PIN) when performing a repair of a distal biceps tendon to an anatomic location through an anterior, single-incision approach using cortical button fixation.
Methods: A standard anterior approach was performed in 10 cadaveric specimens to expose the distal biceps attachment. Three drill holes were made in the radial tuberosity from the center of the anatomic footprint for the distal biceps tendon insertion with the forearm fully supinated.

Background: Cannabis has been rapidly legalized in North America; however, limited evidence exists around its side effects. Health Canada defines side effect as a harmful and unintended response to a health product. Given drug safety concerns, this study's purpose was to review the unintended side effects of cannabis in otolaryngology.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on clinical practice. Safe standards of practice are essential to protect health care workers while still allowing them to provide good care. The Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists, the Canadian Association of Electroneurophysiology Technologists, the Association of Electromyography Technologists of Canada, the Board of Registration of Electromyography Technologists of Canada, and the Canadian Board of Registration of Electroencephalograph Technologists have combined to review current published literature about safe practices for neurophysiology laboratories.

In clinical practice, cancer management does not consistently encompass screening and identification of cardiovascular (CV) risk. The use of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in prostate cancer has been associated with increased CV risk and development of metabolic syndrome, necessitating identification of patients at risk in this population (e.g.

Background: The "no flow" interval is the time from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Its prognostic value is important to define for prehospital resuscitation decisions, post-resuscitation care and prognostication, and extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) candidacy assessment.
Methods: We examined bystander-witnessed OHCAs without bystander CPR from two Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium datasets.

Background: Simple hepatic cysts are common and infrequently develop into large symptomatic cysts that require surgical therapy. These benign cysts have been shown to be amenable to minimally invasive surgery; however, recurrences of symptoms have been reported. Our experience with over 200 simple hepatic cysts has lead to the development of a novel therapy to resolve symptoms associated with large simple hepatic cysts and reduce the rate of recurrent symptoms.

Fabry disease is a lysosomal storage disorder that results in neuropathic pain, progressive renal dysfunction, cardiomyopathy and stroke in affected individuals. The disease is caused by mutations in the GLA gene coding for α galactosidase A. The resulting deficiency of this enzyme causes accumulation of neutral glycosphingolipids in various tissues.
