Background: A variety of metrics are used to describe glycemic variation, some of which may be difficult to comprehend or require complex strategies for smoothing of the glucose curve. We aimed to describe a new metric named time with rapid change of glucose (TRC), which is presented as percentage of time, similar to time above range (TAR), time in range (TIR), and time below range (TBR).
Method: We downloaded glucose data for 90 days from 159 persons with type 1 diabetes using the Abbott Freestyle Libre version 1.

New treatment options and low attack-related mortality have changed the life expectancy of patients with acute porphyria (AP) to that of the general population. Clinicians should therefore be aware of the long-term complications of AP, which typically include chronic neuropathy and encephalopathy, high blood pressure and porphyria-associated kidney disease. Patients have an increased risk of primary liver cancer (PLC), but no increased risk of non-hepatic cancers.

Introduction: Recently, a flow cytometric (FC) based test has been developed for detection of circulating fetal cells to replace the less accurate and reproducible Kleihauer-Betke test.FC test is easier to perform, it can distinguish the origin of fetal cells, but it is expensive and available in highly specialized laboratories. We evaluated the introduction of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) approach as initial screening to identify patients who need an additional FC test to better discriminate the nature of haemoglobin-F (HbF) positive cells.

Background And Aim: Indigenous beef cattle engaged in bullfighting in Southern Thailand represent a distinctive and valuable breed. Gastrointestinal (GI) parasites, which are recognized as important pathogens, have a negative impact on the overall health and physical performance of these fighting bulls. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of GI parasitic infections and identify factors associated with these infections in a fighting bull population in Southern Thailand.

Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) represent some of the most globally prevalent and detrimental diseases. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) technology has effectively addressed the requirement for the diagnosis of clinical infectious diseases. This study aimed at identifying and classifying opportunistic pathogens from the respiratory tract-colonizing microflora in LRTI patients using data acquired from mNGS analyses.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify prognostic variables at baseline associated with being responding favorably to multidisciplinary rehabilitation in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP).
Methods: A responder analysis was conducted based on data from a randomized controlled trial with 26-week follow-up including 165 patients with CLBP treated at a Danish multidisciplinary rehabilitation center. Patients were dichotomized into responders and non-responders based on the outcome of a minimal clinically important difference of six points on the Oswestry Disability Index.

: Micro ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) are noncoding RNAs, recently implicated as potential biomarkers or therapeutic targets for autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aim of this study is to assess the role of miRNA Let-7 in the plasma of RA. : Trained medical staff already enrolled for the study collected blood samples from healthy controls ( = 42) and RA patients ( = 44).

Paired associative stimulation (PAS) consisting of high-intensity transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and high-frequency peripheral nerve stimulation (known as high-PAS) induces plastic changes and improves motor performance in patients with incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI). Listening to music during PAS may potentially improve mood and arousal and facilitate PAS-induced neuroplasticity via auditory-motor coupling, but the effects have not been explored. This pilot study aimed to determine if the effect of high-PAS on motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) and subjective alertness can be augmented with music.

Background: The understanding of the pathophysiology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has taken a major step forward with the research of new illness-related genes and further deciphering the involved molecular. Gene variants like human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DRB1 and PTPN22 1858T act as individual risk factors for RA. It also serves as a risk factor for the rate of progression of joint destruction and clinical manifestations in autoimmune diseases like RA.

In recent years, there has been a surge in the development of AI-based Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), particularly in visual specialties such as dermatology. In Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) regulates AI-based SaMD to ensure its safe use. Proper labelling of these devices is crucial to ensure that healthcare professionals and the general public understand how to use them and interpret results accurately.

Background And Objective: Accurate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reporting is essential for transperineal prostate biopsy (TPB) planning. Although approved computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) tools may assist urologists in this task, evidence of improved clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) detection is lacking. Therefore, we aimed to document the diagnostic utility of using Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) and CAD for biopsy planning compared with PI-RADS alone.

The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), long-term air pollution exposure and biochemical markers of oxidative status and inflammation. This is a cross-sectional investigation focusing on biochemical markers of oxidative status and inflammation. Participants were Caucasian (N = 1188; age 18-65 years) who lived for at least 5 years in a high air-polluted (Moravian-Silesian; MS) or low air-polluted (South Bohemia; SB) region of the Czech Republic.

Background: The molecular mechanism of fetal cystic hygroma (CH) is still unclear, and no study has previously reported the transcriptome changes of single cells in CH. In this study, single-cell transcriptome sequencing (scRNA-seq) was used to investigate the characteristics of cell subsets in the lesion tissues of CH patients.
Methods: Lymphoid tissue collected from CH patients and control donors for scRNA-seq analysis.

Background: Concussion leads to persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS) in up to one-third of those affected. While previous research has linked the initial trauma to elevated serum levels of neurofilament light chain (NFL), inflammatory markers, and neurotoxic metabolites within the kynurenine pathway, few studies have explored their relevance in PPCS. This study aims to investigate these biomarkers in PPCS patients, elucidating their relevance in the prolonged phase of concussion.

Background: With the increasing number of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients, it is difficult to manage them within specialised IBD teams in academic medical centres: many are therefore treated in nonacademic IBD centres.
