Lentigo maligna (LM) is a growing problem worldwide and the main type of melanoma in situ in some Caucasian populations. It presents as a spectrum from atypical intraepidermal melanocytic proliferation (AIMP) to invasive lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM). Accurate diagnosis and staging are crucial for determining appropriate management strategies.

Objectives: This study investigated healthcare utilisation in general practice and hospitals in the 2 years preceding a diagnosis of haematological cancer and the association with patient pathways.
Methods: The nationwide register-based cohort study included 12 994 patients diagnosed with leukaemia, multiple myeloma and lymphoma in 2014-2018 and 10 matched references. Patient pathways were analysed in unplanned routes (acute admission up to 1 month's prior diagnosis) and elective routes (other routes, e.

Introduction: Implementation science focuses on improving the dissemination, uptake and adoption of evidence into practice. Over the last decade, implementation science research has proliferated, particularly in healthcare and social science. The key synthesis of implementation frameworks conducted by Meyers and colleagues in 2012, and the resulting Quality Implementation Framework, has yet to be updated to incorporate this research.

Host-cell entry of the highly pathogenic rabies virus (RABV) is mediated by glycoprotein (G) spikes, which also comprise the primary target for the humoral immune response. RABV glycoprotein (RABV-G) displays several antigenic sites that are targeted by neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). In this study, we determined the epitope of a potently neutralizing human mAb, CR57, which we engineered into a diabody format to facilitate crystallization.

Understanding the intricacies of human movement coordination and variability during running is crucial to unraveling the dynamics of locomotion, identifying potential injury mechanisms and understanding skill development. Identification of minimum number of cycles for calculation of reliable coordination and its variability could help with better test organization and efficient assessment time. By adopting a cross-sectional study design, this study investigated the minimum required cycles for calculating hip-knee, hip-ankle and knee-ankle coordination and their variability using a continuous relative phase (CRP) method.

Objectives: Early identification of interstitial lung disease (ILD) among patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a challenge for clinicians. The aim of this study was to evaluate screening algorithms for ILD by comparing the proportion of patients assigned a high-risk profile by three recently proposed models.
Method: We used the four-factor risk score, categorizing patients into high and low risk; the ILD screening criteria, categorizing patients into high, intermediate, and low risk; and the risk score for detection of subclinical RA-ILD, with four different risk categories, on patients with RA followed for 5 years after the RA diagnosis with pulmonary function tests, dyspnoea score, and pulmonary imaging.

Background And Objective: Carotid B-mode ultrasound (CBUS) imaging is often used to detect and assess atherosclerotic plaques. Doctors often need to segment plaques in the CBUS images to further examine them. Multiple studies have proposed two-dimensional CBUS plaque segmentation deep learning (DL)-based solutions, achieving promising results.

Objectives: Iron deficiency anemia is a significant global health concern, diagnosed by measuring hemoglobin concentrations in combination with plasma ferritin concentration. This study investigated the variability in ferritin reference intervals among laboratories in the Netherlands and examined how this affects the identification of iron-related disorders.
Methods: Ferritin reference intervals from 52 Dutch ISO15189-certified medical laboratories were collected.

Background & objectives The results of the genetic association studies between the selected candidate genes and hypertension (HT) contradicted across different populations. Majority of the meta-analyses carried out did not consider population genetic ancestry as a confounding factor. Therefore, this meta-analysis attempted to consolidate and re-evaluate the findings of the association between the selected candidate variants (AGT-rs699, CYP11B2-rs1799998, ADRB2-rs1042713 and rs1042714) and HT, by categorizing the genotyping data based on known genetic ancestry, and/or major geographical populations.

Background Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, especially its dreaded complication preeclampsia, remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality for both the mother and the fetus. Existing tools for the prediction of preeclampsia remain inadequate in their sensitivity and specificity. Hence, there is an urgent need for a reliable, economically feasible, and objective marker for its diagnosis/early prediction.

Imaging methods are fundamental tools to detect and diagnose lung diseases, monitor their treatment and detect possible complications. Each modality, starting from classical chest radiographs and computed tomography, as well as the ever more popular and easily available thoracic ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine methods, and new techniques such as photon counting computed tomography, radiomics and application of artificial intelligence, has its strong and weak points, which we should be familiar with to properly choose between the methods and interpret their results. In this review, we present the indications, strengths and main limitations of methods for chest imaging.

Background Symptomatic dry eye disease is a growing public health challenge especially among those who are visual display unit users and other long-time near activity workers. Increased screen time, prolonged use of face mask and shortage of sleep among resident doctors increases the risk of developing dry eye disease that can affect their learning and social abilities. Data is insufficient on the prevalence of dry eye disease among postgraduate medical students in Nepal.

Loop diuretics, including torsemide, furosemide, bumetanide, and piretanide, act by inhibiting the sodium-potassium-chloride (Na/K/2Cl) cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle within the nephron. This mechanism is pivotal in managing fluid retention associated with conditions such as heart failure, cirrhosis, chronic kidney disease, and hypertension. A comprehensive understanding of how these diuretics uniquely target this transporter provides crucial insights into effectively addressing fluid overload across diverse clinical conditions.

High mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) amount has been reported to be beneficial for resistance and recovery of metabolic stress, while increased mtDNA synthesis activity can drive aging signs. The intriguing contrast of these two mtDNA boosting outcomes prompted us to jointly elevate mtDNA amount and frequency of replication in mice. We report that high activity of mtDNA synthesis inhibits perinatal metabolic maturation of the heart.
