Surgical crown lengthening has been proposed as a means of facilitating restorative procedures and preventing injuries in teeth with structurally inadequate clinical crown or exposing tooth structure in the presence of deep, subgingival pathologies which may hamper the access for proper restorative measures. Histological studies utilizing animal models have shown that postoperative crestal resorption allowed reestablishment of the biologic width. However, very little has been done in humans.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is known to be associated with the cytokines secreted by Th1 cells, while allergic rhinitis (AR) is mainly regulated by Th2 cytokines. According to Th1/Th2 paradigm, there is an inverse relationship between Th1 and Th2 cytokines and resultantly, both the aforesaid diseases are also inversely correlated. On the other hand, numbers of clinical reports suggest every possible correlation between DM and AR including positive, negative and neutral.

The incretin based therapies are an emerging class of antidiabetic drugs, with two categories: one is glucagone like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists and the other one is dipeptidyl peptidase (CD26; DPP-IV) inhibitors. However, in the DPP-IV inhibitors category only few compounds are commercially available and also have some undesirable effects. Therefore, in the present work we tried to explore a naturally occurring compound naringin for its potential DPP-IV inhibition and antidiabetic potential.

In this investigation, combined effects of quercetin and atenolol in the regulation of isoproterenol (ISO)-induced cardiotoxicity have been evaluated in rats. While ISO administration increased the levels of serum creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) as well as cardiac malondialdehyde (MDA); it reduced the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and the level of reduced glutathione. ISO-induced rats also exhibited ST-segment elevation and tachycardia.

Density Functional Theory calculations have been performed for the σ-hydroboryl complexes of iron, ruthenium and osmium [(H)(2)Cl(PMe(3))(2)M(σ-H-BR)] (M = Fe, Ru, Os; R = OMe, NMe(2), Ph) at the BP86/TZ2P/ZORA level of theory in order to understand the interactions between metal and HBR ligands. The calculated geometries of the complexes [(H)(2)Cl(PMe(3))(2)Ru(HBNMe(2))], [(H)(2)Cl(PMe(3))(2)Os(HBR)] (R = OMe, NMe(2)) are in excellent agreement with structurally characterized complexes [(H)(2)Cl(P(i)Pr(3))(2)Os(σ-H-BNMe(2))], [(H)(2)Cl(P(i)Pr(3))(2)Os{σ-H-BOCH(2)CH(2)OB(O(2)CH(2)CH(2))}] and [(H)(2)Cl(P(i)Pr(3))(2)Os(σ-H-BNMe(2))]. The longer calculated M-B bond distance in complex [(H)(2)Cl(PMe(3))(2)M(σ-H-BNMe(2))] are due to greater B-N π bonding and as a result, a weaker M-B π-back-bonding.

Protein secretion systems used by almost all bacteria are highly significant for the normal existence and interaction of bacteria with their host. The accumulation of genome sequence data in past few years has provided great insights into the distribution and function of these secretion systems. In this study, a support vector machine (SVM)- based method, SSPred was developed for the automated functional annotation of proteins involved in secretion systems further classifying them into five major sub-types (Type-I, Type-II, Type-III, Type-IV and Sec systems).
