Sludge reduction is a major challenge in biological wastewater treatment. Hydrolytic enzymes secreted by thermophilic bacteria can lyse sludge and thus achieve sludge reduction, and the indigenous thermophilic community in sludge can lyse sludge more effectively. In this study, the feasibility of combining a sludge lysis reactor based on thermophilic bacteria community (LTBC reactor, 75 °C) with a conventional sequencing batch activated sludge reactor (SBR) for sludge reduction (i.

To study the corrosion behavior of cement soil in peat soil, the experiment involves the preparation of peat soil by incorporating humic acid into cohesive soil with a lower organic matter content. Cement soil samples are then prepared by adding cement to the mixture. These samples are subjected to immersion in fulvic acid solution and deionized water to simulate different working environments of cement soil.

Many peat soils are distributed around plateau lakes, and the reinforcement of peat soils with high organic matter content by ordinary cement cannot meet the actual engineering requirements. In order to obtain better mechanical properties and durability of the reinforcement, this experiment prepared peat soil by mixing humic acid reagent into the alluvial clay soil with low organic matter content. The cement soil samples were prepared by adding cement and ultrafine cement (UFC) by stirring method; the samples were then soaked in fulvic acid solution to simulate the cement soil in the peat soil environment.

The flocculation performance of chitosan can be enhanced by grafting modification to overcome its disadvantages of poor water solubility. In this study, chitosan was modified by dielectric barrier discharge plasma and polymerized with acrylamide and aluminum chloride to synthesize a new chitosan-based flocculant, namely, chitosan-acrylamide-aluminum chloride (CA-PAC). After optimizing the synthesis conditions of CA-PAC, the best conditions were as follows: discharge time of 3 min, discharge power of 50 W, polymerization temperature of 60 °C, polymerization time of 3 h, total monomer concentration of 100 g/L, and m(AlCl):m(CA) ratio of 2:1.

School of Environmental Science & Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Luoyu Road 1037, Wuhan, Hubei 430074, China; Hubei Provincial Engineering Laboratory for Solid Waste Treatment Disposal and Recycling, Luoyu Road 1037, Wuhan, Hubei 430074, China; State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Luoyu Road 1037, Wuhan, Hubei 430074, China.

A comparative study of the different advanced oxidation processes (Fe(II)-Oxone, Fe(II)-HO, and Fe(II)-NaClO) was carried out herein to analyze the characteristics of organic components and the migration of heavy metals in waste activated sludge. With the Fe(II)-Oxone and Fe(II)-HO treatments, sludge dewaterability was significantly improved, however, sludge dewaterability was deteriorated by the Fe(II)-NaClO treatment. The enhanced sludge dewaterability by the Fe(II)-Oxone and Fe(II)-HO treatments was strongly correlated with the shifted organic components, particularly proteins, in soluble extracellular polymeric substances (S-EPS), while the deteriorated sludge dewaterability by the Fe(II)-NaClO treatment was strongly correlated with the over release of organic components from bound EPS (B-EPS) to S-EPS.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed people's lives, with the most prominent change being the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In this study, we used the extended Value-Identity-Personal (VIP) norm model to empirically analyze the influencing factors of Pro-Environmental Behavior (PEB) among college students in Xi 'an, China, while considering the usage of PPE as an example of PEB. We proposed nine hypothetical questions, and the VIP model was established through the SmartPLS software to test the valid questionnaires of 414 college students.

Concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) are commonly used in modern building and bridge applications. Despite their popularity, studies on the investigation of the influence of long-term load on the stability bearing capacity of such elements are scarce. This study investigates how the key parameters including slenderness ratio (λ), axial load ratio (m), and eccentricity ratio (e/r) affect the stability bearing capacity of a CFST column under sustained load.

Intensive care units (ICUs) are the high incidence sites of hospital-acquired infections, where impinging jet ventilation (IJV) shows great potential. Thermal stratification of IJV and its effect on contaminants distribution were systematically investigated in this study. By changing the setting of heat source or the air change rates, the main driving force of supply airflow can be transformed between thermal buoyancy and inertial force, which can be quantitatively described by the dimensionless buoyant jet length scale ().

DBF-Net: a semi-supervised dual-task balanced fusion network for segmenting infected regions from lung CT images.

Evol Syst (Berl)

College of Big Data and Information Engineering, Guizhou University, Guiyang, Guizhou People's Republic of China.

Accurate segmentation of infected regions in lung computed tomography (CT) images is essential to improve the timeliness and effectiveness of treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, the main difficulties in developing of lung lesion segmentation in COVID-19 are still the fuzzy boundary of the lung-infected region, the low contrast between the infected region and the normal trend region, and the difficulty in obtaining labeled data. To this end, we propose a novel dual-task consistent network framework that uses multiple inputs to continuously learn and extract lung infection region features, which is used to generate reliable label images (pseudo-labels) and expand the dataset.

In this work, we demonstrate the surface functionalization of cellulose triacetate membrane with co-deposition of polydopamine (PDA)/polyethyleneimine (PEI) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for antifouling property in municipal wastewater treatment. PDA/PEI was first coated on the membrane surface by single-step co-deposition, while AgNPs were formed in situ through catechol groups of PDA immobilizing silver ions and subsequently reducing. The successful surface modification was verified by different membrane characterization techniques.
