Vitiligo Exchange: An Expert Panel Discussion of Two Clinical Cases.

This article is based on a roundtable discussion in which three panelists review clinically relevant insights about vitiligo and discuss two cases that illustrate the multiple challenges faced by both patients and clinicians in managing this complex disease. The first is a 32-year-old White female patient with Fitzpatrick Skin Type III/IV with extensive depigmentation in the trunk area. The patient achieved 90-percent repigmentation with a combination therapy approach.

Utilization of Internet and Social Media by Outpatient Dermatology Patients: A Prospective, Cross-sectional Study.

Background: Online health-related information (HRI) has expanded access to medical knowledge. While there are benefits to the increasing availability of online HRI, there may be limitations to the accuracy, quality of information, and utilization across patient demographics.

Methods: A survey was administered to dermatology outpatients at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California to examine the utilization of internet and social media for acquiring dermatology-related information (DRI).

Botulinum Toxin-loaded Detachable Dissolvable Microneedles for Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis: A Pilot Study on Efficacy and Safety.

Objective: Botulinum toxin injection is a well-established treatment for primary hyperhidrosis. The botulinum toxin-loaded detachable dissolvable microneedles (BoNT-MNs) were developed in a result of disadvantages of the intradermal procedure. This pilot study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of BoNT-MNs.

Prospective Pilot Evaluation of the Safety, Tolerability, and Efficacy of Clindamycin Phosphate 1.2%/Adapalene 0.15%/Benzoyl Peroxide 3.1% Gel plus Clascoterone 1% Cream in Adult Patients with Acne.

Background: Acne vulgaris (acne) is a common disorder with a complex, multi-faceted pathophysiology. To date, there has not been a single topical treatment that targets all aspects of acne pathophysiology (ie, increased sebum production, presence of , inflammation, and follicular hyperkeratinization). As such, topical treatments need to be utilized in combination to target all four of the major recognized pathophysiologic components in acne lesion formation.

Clinical and Hematological Manifestations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus at Initial Presentation in a Tertiary Healthcare Center.

Background  Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a multifaceted autoimmune disorder with diverse clinical presentations, among which hematological abnormalities often serve as early and critical indicators of disease. These manifestations, including anemia, leukopenia, lymphopenia, and thrombocytopenia, correlate with disease activity and provide essential diagnostic insights, particularly in resource-limited settings where access to advanced diagnostic tools may be constrained. This study emphasizes the significance of hematological findings that frequently appear at the initial presentation of SLE.

RAGE and its ligands in breast cancer progression and metastasis.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer diagnosed worldwide and the leading cause of death in women globally, according to Globocan 2020. Hence, investigating novel pathways implicated in cancer progression and metastasis could lead to the development of targeted therapies and new treatment strategies in breast cancer. Recent studies reported an interplay between the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) and its ligands, S100 protein group, advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and high-mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) and breast cancer growth and metastasis.

Understanding the pathophysiology of colonization as a guide for future treatment for chronic leg ulcers.

Chronic leg wounds represent a major burden of disease worldwide, costing health care systems billions of dollars each year. Aside from the financial implications, they also impose a significant physical and psychosocial burden on the patient, their relatives and/or carers, and the community. Whilst measures such as maintenance of wound hygiene, debridement, dressings and compression are the current standard of care, complete healing is not always achievable and ulcer recurrence is common.

IL-6 Signalling to Responding T Cells Is Key to Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide-Exposed Endothelial Cell Enhancement of Th17 Immunity During Langerhans Cell Antigen Presentation.

Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) biases Langerhans cell (LC) Ag presentation to CD4 T cells towards Th17-type immunity through actions on endothelial cells (ECs). We now report further evidence that IL-6 signalling at responding T cells mediates this effect. This CGRP effect was absent with ECs from IL-6 KO mice.

Living Microneedles for Intradermal Delivery of Beneficial Bacteria.

The skin, our first line of defense against external threats, combines a physical barrier and a rich microbial community. Disruptions of this community, for example, due to infectious injury, have been linked to a decrease in bacteria diversity and to mild to severe pathological conditions. Although some progress has been made in the field, possibilities/procedures for restoring the skin microbiome are still far from ideal.

An examination of autopsies in a 400 bedded government hospital in Jhelum. An insight into the sudden cause of death and costs associated with autopsy in young government personnel.

Objective: To explore the different causes of sudden death among serving government employees.

Methods: The audit study was conducted at the Pathology Department of a tertiary care hospital Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Jhelum, Pakistan, and comprised data of all autopsies between January 2017 and June 2021. Sampling was done by non probability purposive sampling technique which requires no statistical method calculation.

Allergens Responsible for Contact Allergy in Children From 2010 to 2024: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Contact allergy (CA) is a frequent condition in children; however, newer estimates of the prevalence of CA in children are lacking. Herein, we aim to provide an estimate of the prevalence of CA in children from 2010 to 2024. Two authors independently searched PubMed, Embase and Web of Science for studies reporting the prevalence of positive patch tests (PPTs) to allergens in populations including ≥ 100 children (< 18 years).

Characterization of Clinicopathological Features and Autoantibody Profiles in Patients with Cutaneous Lupus Erythematous: A Single-Center Retrospective Study.

Background: Cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) is an autoimmune condition characterized by a wide range of clinical manifestations and limited treatment options. There is little research on the impact of commonly used diagnostic tests including antinuclear antibodies (ANA) and extractable nuclear antigens (ENA) on disease course or responsiveness to treatment.

Objective: This single-center retrospective cohort study aims to address this gap by characterizing clinicopathological characteristics, patient demographics, and treatment response among patients with CLE.

D-mannose promotes diabetic wound healing through inhibiting advanced glycation end products formation in keratinocytes.

Background: Diabetic chronic foot ulcers pose a significant therapeutic challenge around the world, resulting in adverse effects and complications in patients. D-mannose is enriched in cirtus peel and exerts beneficial effects among various diseases, especially against inflammation-related disorders.

Methods: Here, we examined the potential effect of D-mannose during wound healing process in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes mice in vivo and by culturing keratinocytes under high glucose condition in vitro.

Incomplete human reference genomes can drive false sex biases and expose patient-identifying information in metagenomic data.

As next-generation sequencing technologies produce deeper genome coverages at lower costs, there is a critical need for reliable computational host DNA removal in metagenomic data. We find that insufficient host filtration using prior human genome references can introduce false sex biases and inadvertently permit flow-through of host-specific DNA during bioinformatic analyses, which could be exploited for individual identification. To address these issues, we introduce and benchmark three host filtration methods of varying throughput, with concomitant applications across low biomass samples such as skin and high microbial biomass datasets including fecal samples.
