#Ophthalmology: Popular ophthalmology hashtags as an educational source for ophthalmologists, an Instagram study.

Purpose: This study aims to determine the content and intent of posts published under popular ophthalmology hashtags and to determine whether these posts were educational for ophthalmologists.

Methods: A web-based, cross-sectional study design was used to evaluate the top public posts of five popular hashtags on three consecutive days by two ophthalmology specialists. The first 100 relevant English posts of each hashtag were studied.

Comparison of LMA Protector vs. endotracheal tube in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery: a randomised controlled trial.

Introduction: Recent advances in airway management have led to supraglottic airway devices (SAD) being increasingly often chosen instead of tracheal intubation for laparoscopic surgery. However, there are ongoing arguments regarding the use of SAD due to worries about the risks of insufficient ventilation and pulmonary aspiration. The LMA Protector is a second generation SAD which was put into use recently.

Background: Fibreoptic intubation through a supraglottic airway device (SAD) is recom-mended in difficult airway management algorithms. The Difficult Airway Society published a guideline describing the details of this technique in 2011. This study was designed to compare the efficiency of two different 2nd generation SADs as a conduit for Aintree catheter-guided fibreoptic tracheal intubation.

Evaluation of inflammatuar response in hysterectomies: a retrospective study in Kocaeli, Turkey.

Objectives: The authors aimed to detect the inflammatory marker changes in laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH) and abdominal hysterectomy (AH) and to determine whether oophorectomy affected the results.

Material And Methods: The patients who underwent LH and AH with or without oophorectomy between 2018 and 2019 were identified as two groups. The records of patients were reviewed retrospectively.

Determining airway complications during anaesthesia induction: a prospective, observational, cross-sectional clinical study.

Background: Although postoperative early airway complications are rarely observed, when they do develop, fatal results such as brain damage and cardiac arrest may occur. The Royal College of Anaesthetists and Difficult Airway Society investigated airway complications developing during anaesthesia over a period of 12 months within the context of the Fourth National Audit Project (NAP4) study. Inspired by that multicentre research project, this study aims to identify early airway complications that can develop in relation to anaesthesia induction in our hospital.

Factors affecting TST level in patients undergoing dialysis: a multicenter study.

Introduction: The risk of TB is increased in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) when compared with individuals with normal renal function. We aimed to determine tuberculin skin test (TST) response and the factors which might affect the response in patients with CKD undergoing dialysis in this study.

Methods: The purified protein derivative solution was administered to the patients and the diameter of induration was measured.

Urine Output during Cardiopulmonary Bypass Predicts Acute Kidney Injury after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.

Objective: This study evaluated the relationship between the amount of urinary output during cardiopulmonary bypass and acute kidney injury in the postoperative period of coronary artery bypass grafting.

Methods: Two hundred patients with normal preoperative serum creatinine levels, operated on with isolated CABG between 2012-2014 were investigated retrospectively. The RIFLE (Risk, injury, failure, loss of function, and end-stage renal disease) risk scores were calculated for each patient in the third postoperative day.

Clinical factors and comorbidities affecting the cost of hospital-treated COPD.

Purpose: We aimed to assess the effects of comorbidities on COPD costs and to investigate the relationship between comorbidities and clinical variables.

Patients And Methods: All patients hospitalized with a diagnosis of COPD exacerbation between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2014, at all state hospitals of Aydın province, a city located in the western part of Turkey, were included in this study. The costs examined in the study pertained to medications, laboratory tests, hospital stays, and other treatment-related factors, such as consumption of materials, doctor visits, and consultation fees.

Prediabetes is the preclinical stage of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with intermediate state of hyperglycemia. Hyperglycemia results in a state of oxidative stress, which may contribute to the production of insulin resistance, β-cell dysfunction and long-term complications of diabetes. Novel approaches are required for prevention and treatment of diabetes.

Distinguishing Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy From Idiopathic Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Tachycardia with T-wave Alternans.

Background: The 2 predominant etiologies of right ventricular tachycardia (VT) are arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) and idiopathic VT arising from the right ventricular outflow tract. Discrimination between these 2 entities is critical, as their prognoses and therapeutic options differ. The microvolt T-wave alternans (TWA) is widely used to predict lethal ventricular arrhythmias in various diseases.

Contrast layering: late clearance of contrast dye--a novel angiographic phenomenon of early atherosclerosis.

Patients with angiographically normal coronary arteries sometimes exhibit delayed clearance of contrast medium. This contrast layering (CL) was tested with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and markers of endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The study group (n = 26) consisted of patients with CL and the control group (n = 32) comprised patients with normal coronary arteries despite angina symptoms.

Newly described clinical features in two siblings with MACS syndrome and a novel mutation in RIN2.

The disorder comprising Macrocephaly, Alopecia, Cutis laxa, and Scoliosis has been designated MACS syndrome. It is a rare condition, inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. Three families from different ethnic origins have so far been reported and were all linked to homozygous mutations in RIN2, a gene encoding the Ras and Rab interactor 2 protein involved in cell trafficking.

Effects of alpha tocopherol and ascorbic acid on Helicobacter pylori colonization and the severity of gastric inflammation.

Background And Aim: We aimed to evaluate the changes in histopathologic features, concentrations of vitamins C and E in gastric mucosa, and total antioxidant capacity of the body after ingestion of ascorbic acid and alpha tocopherol in patients with Helicobacter pylori.

Material And Method: Patients with H. pylori-positive nonulcer dyspepsia were included in this study.

Eradication rates are much lower in locations where uncontrolled antibiotic use is common such as Turkey. In the present study, we aimed to test whether supplementing vitamins C and E to standard triple therapy, including a proton pump inhibitor plus amoxicillin plus clarithromycin, increased the H.

Background/aims: Inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic, recurrent disorder that involves multiple organ systems. Polyneuropathy is the most common neurological manifestation. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between polyneuropathy and inflammatory bowel disease.
