Global practice patterns of sentinel lymph node biopsy in endometrial cancer: a survey from the European Network of Young Gynecologic Oncologists (ENYGO).

Objective: This survey aimed to evaluate trends in sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy for endometrial cancer among members of the European Society of Gynecologic Oncology (ESGO) and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS).

Methods: We conducted an online cross-sectional survey among gynecologic oncologists over 40 years of age consisting of 30 questions. It was distributed to ESGO and IGCS members via Survey Monkey and Qualtrics between September and December 2022.

Improving Conversations about Parkinson's Dementia.

Background: People with Parkinson's disease (PD) have an increased risk of dementia, yet patients and clinicians frequently avoid talking about it due to associated stigma, and the perception that "nothing can be done about it". However, open conversations about PD dementia may allow people with the condition to access treatment and support, and may increase participation in research aimed at understanding PD dementia.

Objectives: To co-produce information resources for patients and healthcare professionals to improve conversations about PD dementia.

Repeatability of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound to Determine Renal Cortical Perfusion.

Alterations in renal perfusion play a major role in the pathogenesis of renal diseases. Renal contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is increasingly applied to quantify renal cortical perfusion and to assess its change over time, but comprehensive assessment of the technique's repeatability is lacking. Ten adults attended two renal CEUS scans within 14 days.

The British Orthopaedic Surgery Surveillance study: slipped capital femoral epiphysis: the epidemiology and two-year outcomes from a prospective cohort in Great Britain.

Aims: The aim of this study was to inform the epidemiology and treatment of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE).

Methods: This was an anonymized comprehensive cohort study, with a nested consented cohort, following the the Idea, Development, Exploration, Assessment, Long-term study (IDEAL) framework. A total of 143 of 144 hospitals treating SCFE in Great Britain participated over an 18-month period.

Redefining WILD syndrome: a primary lymphatic dysplasia with congenital multisegmental lymphoedema, cutaneous lymphovascular malformation, CD4 lymphopaenia and warts.

Background: Primary lymphoedema (PL) syndromes are increasingly recognised as presentations of complex genetic disease, with at least 20 identified causative genes. Recognition of clinical patterns is key to diagnosis, research and therapeutics. The defining criteria for one such clinical syndrome, 'WILD syndrome' (arts, mmunodeficiency, ymphoedema and anogenital ysplasia), have previously depended on a single case report.

X Chromosome Contribution to the Genetic Architecture of Primary Biliary Cholangitis.

Background & Aims: Genome-wide association studies in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) have failed to find X chromosome (chrX) variants associated with the disease. Here, we specifically explore the chrX contribution to PBC, a sexually dimorphic complex autoimmune disease.

Methods: We performed a chrX-wide association study, including genotype data from 5 genome-wide association studies (from Italy, United Kingdom, Canada, China, and Japan; 5244 case patients and 11,875 control individuals).

Does the Performance of Splenectomy as Part of Cytoreductive Surgery Carry a Worse Prognosis Than in Patients Not Receiving Splenectomy? A Propensity Score Analysis and Review of the Literature.

Background & Objectives: Ultra-radical (UR) procedures, including splenectomy, are utilized to increase complete cytoreduction rates during Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) performed with the aim of complete macroscopic clearance of disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate if splenectomy negatively impacts survival when undertaken during CRS for advanced ovarian cancer (AOC) and compare published splenectomy and cytoreduction rates.

Methods: A retrospective review of all consecutive patients who underwent cytoreductive surgery for AOC between 16/05/2013-28/01/2019.

Update and audit of the St George's classification algorithm of primary lymphatic anomalies: a clinical and molecular approach to diagnosis.

Primary lymphatic anomalies may present in a myriad of ways and are highly heterogenous. Careful consideration of the presentation can lead to an accurate clinical and/or molecular diagnosis which will assist with management. The most common presentation is lymphoedema, swelling resulting from failure of the peripheral lymphatic system.

Diabetic patients are almost twice as likely to experience complications from arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

Aims: Large population-based studies have demonstrated increased prevalence of rotator cuff disease amongst diabetics. Recent studies have suggested comparable clinical outcomes from rotator cuff repair despite suggestions of increased complication rates amongst diabetics. However, there is a relative paucity of studies considering the effect of diabetes upon complication rate.

Adjuvant chemotherapy in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (the POUT trial): a phase 3, open-label, randomised controlled trial.

Background: Urothelial carcinomas of the upper urinary tract (UTUCs) are rare, with poorer stage-for-stage prognosis than urothelial carcinomas of the urinary bladder. No international consensus exists on the benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with UTUCs after nephroureterectomy with curative intent. The POUT (Peri-Operative chemotherapy versus sUrveillance in upper Tract urothelial cancer) trial aimed to assess the efficacy of systemic platinum-based chemotherapy in patients with UTUCs.

Long-Term Outcomes in Patients with Acute Kidney Injury.

The long-term sequelae of AKI have received increasing attention so that its associations with a number of adverse outcomes, including higher mortality and development of CKD, are now widely appreciated. These associations take on particular importance when considering the high incidence of AKI, with a lack of proven interventions and uncertainties around optimal care provision meaning that the long-term sequelae of AKI present a major unmet clinical need. In this review, we examine the published data that inform our current understanding of long-term outcomes following AKI and discuss potential knowledge gaps, covering long-term mortality, CKD, progression to ESKD, proteinuria, cardiovascular events, recurrent AKI, and hospital readmission.

Mapping the undergraduate dermatology curriculum: a useful tool towards implementation of national recommendations.

Background: Despite the high prevalence of skin complaints in primary care and secondary care, dermatology undergraduate (UG) education remains inconsistent across medical schools. The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) published a revised national UG curriculum in 2016 to guide UK medical schools on the minimum competencies required in dermatology.

Aim: The aim of the study was to determine the alignment of the BAD UG curriculum with the dermatology curriculum of the University of Nottingham School of Medicine.

Open Versus Arthroscopic Repair of 1B Ulnar-Sided Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Tears: A Systematic Review.

Peripheral 1B tears of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) can result in distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability. In the context of associated DRUJ instability, combined evidence supports successful outcomes for peripheral tear repair. The aim of this systematic review (SR) was to compare the surgical treatment of 1B TFCC tears via arthroscopic versus open methods of repair.

Lymphedema Research Prioritization Partnership: A Collaborative Approach to Setting Research Priorities for Lymphedema Management.

More research is needed in lymphedema management to strengthen the evidence base and ensure patients receive clinically and cost-effective treatment. It is critical that patients and clinicians are involved in prioritizing research to ensure that it reflects their needs and is not biased by commercial interests. This study aimed to set the research priorities for lymphedema management in the United Kingdom, through collaboration with patients, carers, and clinicians.

The Association of Nutritional Factors and Skin Autofluorescence in Persons Receiving Hemodialysis.

Objective: Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are uremic toxins that result from hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, and systemic inflammation. AGEs are also formed in food during cooking. On the other hand, malnutrition may contribute to AGE formation through its association with oxidative stress and inflammation.

A comparison of three methods to assess body composition.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of measurements of body composition made using dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), analysis of computed tomography (CT) scans at the L3 vertebral level, and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA).

Methods: DXA, CT, and BIA were performed in 47 patients recruited from two clinical trials investigating metabolic changes associated with major abdominal surgery or neoadjuvant chemotherapy for esophagogastric cancer. DXA was performed the week before surgery and before and after commencement of neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

"Focusing" in Motivational Interviewing: development of a training tool for practitioners.

Rationale Aims And Objectives: Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an individual-level approach to behaviour change that has been evaluated in over 600 randomised clinical trials across multiple settings. Increasingly, research efforts focus on how MI works and how it can best be integrated into public health and clinical programmes. As the application of MI expands, a key integration challenge involves specifying the focus of a conversation such that a practitioner might ignite and intensify a patient's internal motivation for change related to that focus.

Mesalazine induced myopericarditis in a patient with ulcerative colitis.

A 25-year-old male with a background of ulcerative colitis presented with a two-week history of central chest pain. His ECG on presentation showed global T wave inversion with a peak troponin I of 165 ng/ml. Clinical diagnosis of myopericarditis/myocarditis was made.

Management of the temporomandibular joint in inflammatory arthritis: Involvement of surgical procedures.

Many conditions may affect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), but its incidence in individual joint diseases is low. However, inflammatory arthropathies, particularly rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, appear to have a propensity for affecting the joint. Symptoms include pain, restriction in mouth opening, locking, and noises, which together can lead to significant impairment.
