Evaluation of the relationship between compliance with the follow-up and treatment protocol and health literacy in bladder tumor patients.

To investigate the relationship between the compliance of bladder cancer patients with cystoscopic follow-up and the treatment protocol, and their health literacy. Patients who underwent transurethral resection surgery for bladder tumor were found to have non-muscular invasive bladder carcinoma on pathology examination and then underwent cystoscopic follow-up for 1 year or more were included in the study. Cystoscopic follow-up was recommended to the low- and high-risk groups in terms of progression and recurrence.

Emphasis of FAS/FASL gene polymorphism in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

Background: Bladder cancer (BCa) is the seventh most common cancer among males worldwide. Some reliable markers in blood, urine, and tumor tissue, including clinicopathologic variables, molecular and inflammatory markers, gene polymorphisms, and tumor gene expression profiles are identified for predicting response to BCG immunotherapy in high-risk BCa patients.

This study aimed to determine the effect of surgical margin positivity on biochemical recurrence (BCR) in patients with locally advanced prostate cancer (PCa) who underwent radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP). This study explored the use of thiol/disulphide homeostasis as a novel oxidative stress marker in patients with erectile dysfunction (ED). Fifty-five patients aged 40-57 were divided into two groups: Group I (International Index of Erectile Function [IIEF-5] score between 22 and 25, n = 20) and Group II (IIEF-5 score < 22, n = 35). Blood samples were used to evaluate hormone levels, lipid profile and thiol/disulphide levels.

Purpose: To compare fear of circumcision, before, immediately after, and ten days after the operation.

Materials And Methods: This was a case-control study in which participants in the operation group consisted of children admitted for circumcision at the outpatient clinics of a hospital. The Children's Fear Scale and the Venham Picture Test were administered by face-to-face interviews.

Micropercutaneous nephrolithotripsy: initial experience.

Introduction: For small renal calculi (< 2 cm) the currently available treatment options include extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL), retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and standard/mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL). A new method, microperc, has therefore been developed, in which a smaller tract size and smaller instruments were used.

Aim: To present our clinical experiences with micropercutaneous nephrolithotripsy (microperc) in the treatment of small renal calculi.

Nontraumatic spontaneous splenic rupture (NSSR) has been encountered much more rarely compared with the traumatic splenic rupture. Although NSSR generally emerges in dialysis patients on account of such causes as the use of heparin during hemodialysis, uremic coagulopathy, infections, and secondary amyloidosis. Herein, we aimed to present a case of spontaneous splenic rupture which had developed soon after the inclusion of the case suffering from end-stage renal disease in routine hemodialysis program in the absence of any trauma or other prespecified risk factors for splenic rupture.

The comparison of the influence between two different bowel preparation methods on sepsis after prostate biopsies.

Introduction: Transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) guided prostate needle biopsy has been performed to diagnose and stage prostate cancer for many years. There are many different bowel preparation protocols to diminish the infectious complications, but there is no standardized consensus among urologists. Therefore, we aimed to assess two different bowel preparation methods on the rate of infectious complications in patients who underwent TRUS-guided prostate biopsy.

Importance of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio in prediction of PSA recurrence after radical prostatectomy.

Background: The aim of this study was to research the importance of the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in prediction of PSA recurrence after radical prostatectomy, which has not been reported so far.

Materials And Methods: The data of 175 patients who were diagnosed with localised prostate cancer and underwent retropubic radical prostatectomy was retrospectively examined. Patient pre-operative hemogram parameters of neutrophil count, lymphocyte count and NLR were assessed.

The association between plasma visfatin levels and ED.

Visfatin was initially proposed as a clinical marker of atherosclerosis, endothelial dysfunction and vascular damage, with a potential prognostic value. It has been shown that endothelial dysfunction has an important role in ED. We aimed to determine the levels of visfatin in ED patients and characterize the relationship between visfatin levels and ED.

Methods: We included 1120 patients with prostate-specific antigen levels ≤20 ng/mL and/or suspicious digital rectal examination findings in this study. All patients had a first-time prostate biopsy and 8, 10, 12, 16, and 20 core biopsies were taken and examined in different groups during the study.
