Elevated FVIII levels in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia: Implications for clinical management.

Objectives: The objective of this study was twofold: to determine the prevalence of arterial and venous thromboembolic events in the Norwegian Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) population, and to explore potential factors linked to such events, with particular emphasis on FVIII.

Methods: Patients with an HHT diagnosis attending the Otorhinolaryngology Department at Oslo University Hospital-Rikshospitalet were included consecutively between April 2021 and November 2022. We recorded the participants' medical history with an emphasis on thromboembolic events.

A nonneutralizing antibody as cause of prothrombin deficiency in a patient with follicular lymphoma.

Acquired inhibitors of blood coagulation are rare but of clinical importance. Prothrombin is a vitamin K-dependent protein, and acquired antibodies toward prothrombin are often associated with the presence of lupus anticoagulant. We describe a previously healthy 70-year-old man presenting with both hemorrhage and thrombosis as well as a prolonged prothrombin time.

Striatal Hand Deformities in Parkinson's Disease: Hand Surgical Perspectives.

Background: The knowledge about striatal hand deformities (SHD) in Parkinson's disease (PD), has recently increased but need more attention due to their early impact on dexterity. The focus of clinical studies has been on the staging of SHD severity and neurological features. However, a hand surgical perspective has not been considered.

Improved Patient Dosimetry at Radioiodine Therapy by Combining the ICRP Compartment Model and the EANM Pre-Therapeutic Standard Procedure for Benign Thyroid Diseases.

Radioactive iodine is commonly used for the treatment of different thyroid conditions since the 1940s. The EANM has developed a standard pre-therapeutic procedure to estimate patient specific thyroid uptake at treatment of benign thyroid diseases. The procedure which models the time dependent fractional thyroid uptake is based on a two-compartment fitting system, one representing the thyroid and the other the blood.

High Luteinizing Hormone and Lower Levels of Sex Hormones in Younger Men With Distal Radius Fracture.

This study investigates the sex steroid hormone profile in younger men with distal radius fracture (DRF) to elucidate if this could explain the low bone density and osteoporosis previously observed. In a case-control study, 73 men with DRF (mean age 38 ± 9 years; range, 20-51) was compared with 194 age-matched, population controls. Performed assays: total testosterone (TT), calculated free testosterone (cFT), luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and total estradiol (E2).

Factor V-short and protein S as synergistic tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPIα) cofactors.

Background: FV-Short is a normal splice variant of Factor V (FV) having a short B domain, which exposes a high affinity-binding site for tissue factor pathway inhibitor α (TFPIα). FV-Short and TFPIα circulate in complex in plasma.

Objectives: The aim was to elucidate whether FV-Short affects TFPIα as inhibitor of coagulation FXa and to test whether the TFPIα-cofactor activity of protein S is influenced by FV-Short.

Sentinel node biopsy for prostate cancer: report from a consensus panel meeting.

Objective: To explore the evidence and knowledge gaps in sentinel node biopsy (SNB) in prostate cancer through a consensus panel of experts.

Methods: A two-round Delphi survey among experts was followed by a consensus panel meeting of 16 experts in February 2016. Agreement voting was performed using the research and development project/University of California, Los Angeles Appropriateness Methodology on 150 statements in nine domains.

Sentinel Node Procedure in Prostate Cancer: A Systematic Review to Assess Diagnostic Accuracy.

Context: Extended pelvic lymph node dissection (ePLND) is the gold standard for detecting lymph node (LN) metastases in prostate cancer (PCa). The benefit of sentinel node biopsy (SNB), which is the first draining LN as assessed by imaging of locally injected tracers, remains controversial.

Objective: To assess the diagnostic accuracy of SNB in PCa.
