Aim: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are less effective in mismatch repair (MMR)-proficient (pMMR) colorectal cancers (CRCs) than in MMR-deficient CRCs. Here, we investigated changes in the tumor microenvironment after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) without radiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) and the potential of ICIs as therapeutic agents for pMMR CRCs.
Methods: This was an ad hoc analysis of a KSCC1301 randomized phase II trial in which patients with untreated resectable LARC were randomly assigned to receive S-1 and oxaliplatin or folinic acid, 5-fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin as NAC.

Cryptococcosis typically manifests as pulmonary lesions, with endobronchial lesions occurring rarely. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) may be a risk factor for cryptococcosis of the larynx but not of the bronchi. Here, we report a case involving a 73-year-old Japanese man who developed endobronchial cryptococcosis during ICS treatment for asthma.

Study Group for Familial Adenomatous Polyposis in the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum Tokyo Japan.
Introduction: In Japanese patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), colectomy tends to be postponed or avoided.

Methods: We analyzed the records of 250 patients with non-dense FAP who did not require colorectal cancer removal.
Aim: Total gastrectomy results in the complete loss of gastric function and the development of severe postgastrectomy syndrome. During the jejunal pouch procedure following total gastrectomies, a substitute stomach is created to alleviate the effects of postgastrectomy syndrome. However, the procedure's effectiveness remains controversial.

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and the receptor for AGEs (RAGE) play a pivotal role for vascular calcification in atherosclerosis. We hypothesize that the AGEs-RAGE axis could also be involved in the pathophysiological mechanism of calcified AS.
