Dutch Validation of the Self-Evaluation of Negative Symptoms Scale (SNS).

Background/objectives: Negative symptoms in schizophrenia spectrum disorders are related to impaired social functioning and lower quality of life, making accurate assessment important. To date, most tools for assessing negative symptoms are observational, which can be influenced by the raters' experience and opinion. Self-rating scales, like the Self-Evaluation of Negative Symptoms (SNS), could complement observer ratings by adding information from the patient's perspective.

The Role of Immersive Experience in Anxiety Reduction: Evidence from Virtual Reality Sessions.

Background/objectives: Virtual reality (VR) is an innovative technology with the potential to transform digital experiences, particularly in relation to mental health concerns such as anxiety. Therefore, this study investigates the potential of a newly designed VR experience to alleviate anxiety by focusing on the mediating role of VR-induced immersion.

Methods: The study included 419 individuals aged 10 to 80 years, with 29 aged 10-15 years and 390 above 15 years, who were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups on the basis of project-defined criteria, including a random allocation to the wheelchair-using group.

The Connection Between Stress and Women's Smoking During the Perinatal Period: A Systematic Review.

Introduction: In women, smoking during pregnancy and the postpartum period has important consequences for maternal and infant health, and interventions to assist smoking cessation during this period are essential. Although smoking has been associated with the presence of mental health problems, few studies addressing the factors associated with perinatal smoking have examined the role of stress. The aim of this review was to identify the relationships between the presence of stress and smoking during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

The Brain Activation of Two Motor Imagery Strategies in a Mental Rotation Task.

Motor imagery includes visual imagery and kinesthetic imagery, which are two strategies that exist for mental rotation and are currently widely studied. However, different mental rotation tests can lead to different strategic performances. There are also many research results where two different strategies appear simultaneously under the same task.

Spectral Analysis of Light-Adapted Electroretinograms in Neurodevelopmental Disorders: Classification with Machine Learning.

Electroretinograms (ERGs) show differences between typically developing populations and those with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In a series of ERGs collected in ASD ( = 77), ADHD ( = 43), ASD + ADHD ( = 21), and control ( = 137) groups, this analysis explores the use of machine learning and feature selection techniques to improve the classification between these clinically defined groups. Standard time domain and signal analysis features were evaluated in different machine learning models.

Cross-sectional survey of healthcare professionals' perceptions of bedrails as a measure of physical restraint in the hospital setting.

Objective: Although bedrails are considered a restraint measure under the legal regulations in Spain, no data on the related perceptions of healthcare professionals (HCPs) are available. Thus, this study aimed to calculate the proportion of HCPs in the hospital setting that consider bedrails to be a restraint measure.

Methods: Between June and December 2022, a cross-sectional online survey was conducted among the HCPs at our institution.

The INGENIOUS project: towards understanding air pollution in homes.

This paper provides an overview of the INGENIOUS (UnderstandING the sourcEs, traNsformations and fates of IndOor air pollUtantS) project, aiming to better understand air pollution in homes. Although our homes are the microenvironment in which we spend most of our time, we know relatively little about the sources, transformation processes and fates of indoor air pollutants, or our exposure to them. INGENIOUS aims to address this knowledge gap by delivering: an indoor emissions inventory for UK homes; comprehensive air pollutant measurements in 310 homes in Bradford using a combination of low cost-sensors and more advanced air quality instrumentation; an analysis of the impact of indoor air pollution on outdoor air quality and using mobile measurements; insight into future indoor air quality using detailed air pollution models; identification of indoor air pollutants that warrant further toxicological study; and better understanding of the barriers and facilitators for behaviour that drives improved indoor air quality.

Background: Atorvastatin (ATO) is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor used to lower blood cholesterol, but it causes renal injury in high doses. Thymoquinone (TQ), is a natural antioxidant that has been shown to protect the kidney through its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, & antiapoptotic, effects.

Objective: The current study aimed to investigate whether posttreatment TQ could reverse ATOinduced renal injury, and the possible mechanism of action by which TQ produced such an effect.

Understanding mental health in older adults: exploring the interplay of wisdom, perceived poor health, and attitudes toward aging.

Objectives: Late adulthood is marked by challenges that impact well-being. While perceived health, wisdom, and positive attitudes toward aging correlate with better mental health in later life, their interrelations are not well understood. This study explored if three-dimensional wisdom could buffer the negative impact of poor physical health on mental health, and if positive attitudes toward aging mediated the effects of wisdom and poor health on mental health.

Objectives: Explore humanitarian healthcare professionals' (HCPs) perceptions about implementing children's palliative care and to identify their educational needs and challenges, including learning topics, training methods, and barriers to education.

Methods: Humanitarian HCPs were interviewed about perspectives on children's palliative care and preferences and needs for training. Interviews were transcribed, coded, and arranged into overarching themes.

Economic Evaluations of Music Therapy and Other Music-Based Interventions: A Scoping Review.

The cost-effectiveness of an intervention is an important factor in health care decisions about which health care services should be publicly funded and/or approved as an eligible intervention for private insurance coverage. Introduction: Suffering from chronic pain (CP) and coping with parenthood can be challenging for parental mental health. Pain can hinder the ability to deal with demands related to parenthood, which can negatively affect their psychological well-being because of unmet caregiving expectations.

Methods: Considering the limited amount of research regarding the mental health of parents with CP, the study's main aim was to test a predictive model based on previous scientific literature, using structural equation analysis, in which parental competence and parental guilt partially mediate the relationship between parental stress and depression.

Methods: A total of 31,184 urban residents of Sichuan Province were included in the cross-sectional study. Binary logistic regression and propensity score matching (PSM) were used to assess the influence effect.

Bi+ Men's Explanations for Substance Use Disparities in Their Community.

Bi+ men are more likely to use alcohol and drugs than heterosexual and often gay men. The minority stress model is the predominant framework for understanding these disparities, but it is unknown whether this framework is consistent with bi+ men's perspectives. As part of an online survey, 69 bi+ young men (ages 18-29; 29% transgender) were asked why they think bisexual men are more likely to use alcohol and drugs than other men (including gay men).
