Introduction: The benefit of secondary prevention in hypertensive patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is based on continual simultaneous taking of statins, antiplatelet agents and antihypertensive agents, preferably angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). Our study was aimed at a) the analysis of the extent of non-persistence with multiple medication classes, and b) identifying factors associated with the likelihood of non-persistence.
Methods: In our cohort study, 3,401 hypertensive patients (1,853 females and 1,548 males) aged ≥65 years treated simultaneously with statins, antiplatelet agents and ACEIs/ARBs and in whom PAD was newly diagnosed during 2012 were analysed.

Introduction: During hemodialysis (HD), the presence of clots in the dialyzer can diminish the effective surface area of the device. In severe cases, clot formation in the circuit can halt treatment and lead to blood loss in the system. Thus, ensuring proper anticoagulation during HD is crucial to prevent clotting in the circuit while safeguarding the patient from bleeding risks.

The liver and kidneys are important organs for body homeostasis but susceptible to damage or injury caused by different factors. A number of medicinal plants, such as have been proven effective in protecting the liver and kidneys from damage. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine the effect of extract (CcE) on paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity and gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rat model.

Background: To stay abreast of the best international practices, the Arab Gulf countries have ratified the United Nations which includes clauses on safeguarding the well-being of children against child abuse and neglect. The enactment of laws, policies, and facilities designed to protect the rights of the child has not yet been studied to determine whether it leads to appropriate legal dispositions against perpetrators of child sexual abuse (CSA) in Oman.
Aims: This study has been launched to address two interrelated objectives; (i) describe the characteristics of CSA victims and perpetrators and (ii) examine factors associated with medicolegal findings and judicial results for CSA complainants in Oman.

Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) are a prevalent complication of intensive chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in the pediatric population and are associated with high morbidity and mortality. We aimed to identify the utilization of antifungal prophylaxis prescriptions and the associated clinical outcomes. A retrospective study included children (≤18 years old) diagnosed with hematological malignancies or undergoing HSCT who are at high risk for developing IFI and received systemic antifungal therapy between January 2018 and April 2024 at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH), Oman.

Background: Effective hypertension management requires medication adherence to prevent complications. However, adverse drug reactions (ADRs) can undermine adherence and negatively affect patients' quality of life. Limited research has explored the association between ADRs, medication adherence, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in individuals with hypertension.

This study aimed to investigate the potential protective effects of riociguat, a soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) stimulator, on kidney function and structure in rats with acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DX). Rats were subjected to a single intraperitoneal injection of DX (13.5 mg/kg) on the 5th day, either alone or in combination with low-dose riociguat (3 mg/kg/day), or high-dose riociguat (10 mg/kg/day) for 8 consecutive days.

Steroidal 5α-reductase type 2 (S5αR2) is a key enzyme involved in the conversion of testosterone (TST) to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a crucial process in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Phytosterols (PSs), natural plant-derived compounds, have been proposed as potential inhibitors of S5αR2, but studies on their efficacy are limited. This study evaluates the inhibitory effects of three PSs (β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, and campesterol) on S5αR2 activity using a combined in vitro and in silico approach.

: The Measles-Rubella Microarray Patch (MR-MAP) is an important technology that is expected to reduce coverage and equity gaps for measles-containing vaccines (MCVs), reach zero-dose children, and contribute to elimination of measles and rubella. MR-MAPs are anticipated to be easier to deploy programmatically and could be delivered by lesser-trained health workers, thereby increasing immunization coverage. The most advanced MR-MAP has reached clinical proof-of-concept through a Phase I/II trial in the target population of infants and young children.

Nanoparticle-based drug delivery presents a promising solution in enhancing therapies for neurological diseases, particularly cognitive impairment. These nanoparticles address challenges related to the physicochemical profiles of drugs that hinder their delivery to the central nervous system (CNS). Benefits include improved solubility due to particle size reduction, enhanced drug penetration across the blood-brain barrier (BBB), and sustained release mechanisms suitable for long-term therapy.

In the landscape of proteins controlled by membrane voltage (V), like voltage-gated ionotropic channels, the emergence of the voltage sensitivity within the vast family of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) marked a significant milestone at the onset of the 21st century. Since its discovery, extensive research has been devoted to understanding the intricate relationship between V and GPCRs. Approximately 30 GPCRs out of a family comprising more than 800 receptors have been implicated in V-dependent positive and negative regulation.
