Impact of reporting rapid susceptibility results in Gram negative bloodstream infections: a real world prospective study.

Purpose: Mortality and morbidity of patients with bloodstream infection (BSI) remain high despite advances in diagnostic methods and efforts to speed up reporting. This study investigated the impact of reporting rapid Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)-results in Gram negative BSIs with the ASTar system (Q-linea, Uppsala, Sweden) on the adaptation of empirically started antimicrobial therapy. We performed a real-world study during which antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) results were instantly reported to the treating physician in an established multidisciplinary antimicrobial stewardship setting.

The contribution of cognitive disengagement syndrome symptoms to depressive symptoms among pediatric brain tumor survivors.

Objective: Pediatric brain tumor survivors (PBTS) are at risk for neurocognitive late effects that can resemble symptoms of cognitive disengagement syndrome (CDS). In the current study, we compared the CDS symptoms of PBTS to those of healthy comparison classmates (CC) and examined whether CDS might explain group differences in depressive symptoms. We also explored whether CDS symptoms were associated with engagement-based coping strategies and stress responses, thereby testing one mechanism by which CDS could lead to affective difficulties.

Long-term symptoms in children after a Cryptosporidium hominis outbreak in Sweden: a 10-year follow-up.

In 2010, a Cryptosporidium hominis outbreak resulted in 27,000 clinical cryptosporidiosis cases (45% of the population) in Östersund, Sweden. Long-term abdominal and joint symptoms are common following cryptosporidiosis in adults, and it can affect the development of children in low-income countries. We investigated the potential consequences for children in a high-income setting.

Objectives: Forensic age estimation from orthopantomograms (OPGs) can be performed more quickly and accurately using convolutional neural networks (CNNs), making them an ideal extension to standard forensic age estimation methods. We retrospectively reviewed data of patients who underwent TCC for perimembranous, intraconal, and post-surgical residual VSDs at our institution (January 2019-December 2023).
