Effect of Bacille Calmette-Guérin vaccination on immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 vaccination.

Objectives: Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination has off-target effects on disease risk for unrelated infections and immune responses to vaccines. This study aimed to determine the immunomodulatory effects of BCG vaccination on immune responses to vaccines against SARS-CoV-2.

Methods: Blood samples, from a subset of 275 SARS-CoV-2-naïve healthcare workers randomised to BCG vaccination (BCG group) or no BCG vaccination (Control group) in the BRACE trial, were collected before and 28 days after the primary course (two doses) of ChAdOx1-S (Oxford-AstraZeneca) or BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) vaccination.

Questionnaire survey on the clinical application of Hall technique preformed metal crowns in caries of primary molars in China.

Objective: To analyze the clinical application and limiting factors of the Hall technique (HT) preformed metal crowns in caries of primary molars and to provide reference for its clinical application based on a questionnaire survey.

Materials And Methods: From June to December 2022, a questionnaire was distributed to pediatric dentists through the WeChat platform using "Questionnaire Star" to analyze the clinical application and influencing factors of the HT preformed metal crowns in caries of primary molars.

Results: A total of 700 survey questionnaires were distributed, and 650 valid questionnaires were recovered, with a effectiveness rate of 92.

Concomitant Parvovirus B19 and CMV Infection in a Child with Kidney Transplant.

Parvovirus B19 is a common human infection worldwide and is typically self-limiting in healthy persons but immunocompromised patients require specific treatments. Pretransplant B19 screening doesn't seem to be important or have any impact on the transplantation process but cytomegalovirus (CMV) study is crucial. We present a kidney-transplanted child infected by parvovirus B19 and cytomegalovirus presented with intractable anemia and raised creatinine.

MicroRNA Expression and Target Prediction in Children with Nephrotic Syndrome.

Background: Nephrotic syndrome is a common cause of kidney diseases in children. Many studies have examined the association of microRNAs playing potential roles in many pathophysiological functions. We investigated the expression pattern of the microRNAs miR-17-5P, miR-155p, miR-424-5p in children with steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS) and steroid resistance nephrotic syndrome (SRNS), along with the healthy subjects.

Environment scan of generative AI infrastructure for clinical and translational science.

This study reports a comprehensive environmental scan of the generative AI (GenAI) infrastructure in the national network for clinical and translational science across 36 institutions supported by the CTSA Program led by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) at the United States. Key findings indicate a diverse range of institutional strategies, with most organizations in the experimental phase of GenAI deployment. The results underscore the need for a more coordinated approach to GenAI governance, emphasizing collaboration among senior leaders, clinicians, information technology staff, and researchers.

Bibliometric Analysis of Global Pediatric Research on Cow's Milk Protein Allergy.

Background: Cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) is a prevalent food allergy in early childhood, significantly impacting the quality of life for affected children. Current palliative measures, such as specialized formula milk, offer temporary relief but are costly and fail to address the underlying issue. Thus, there is a critical need to better understand CMPA and explore new treatment options.

A gut instinct for childhood leukemia prevention: microbiome-targeting recommendations aimed at parents and caregivers.

Childhood leukemia accounts for 30% of all pediatric cancer cases with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) being the most common subtype. Involvement of the gut microbiome in ALL development has recently garnered interest due to an increasing recognition of the key contribution the microbiome plays in maintaining the immune system's homeostatic balance. Commensal gut microbiota provide a first line of defense against different pathogens and gut microbiome immaturity has been implicated in ALL pathogenesis.

Purpose: Social determinants of health have been related with kidney diseases and their outcomes. Financial toxicity (FT) refers to the negative impact of health care costs on clinical conditions. This scoping review aimed to evaluate the literature linking FT with renal diseases.

Introduction: related disorders (PRD, OMIM: *171834) are genetic disorders resulting from pathogenic somatic mosaic variants in the gene, which encodes a protein crucial for regulating cell growth and division. PRD typically manifest during the post-zygotic phase, leading to a broad spectrum of overgrowth and vascular malformations affecting various body regions.

Methods: Conventional diagnostic methods struggle to detect and confirm pathogenic PIK3CA gene variants due to the mosaic nature of these disorders and the limited accessibility of affected tissues.

Hearing Performance and Soft-Tissue Outcomes of Minimally Invasive Ponto Surgery and Local Anesthesia in Children with Unilateral Craniofacial Malformation.

 Minimally invasive Ponto surgery (MIPS) enables the installation of percutaneous bone-anchored hearing implants (BAHIs) with a drill guide through a hole punch incision. Despite being well established for adults, there is a lack of studies in the literature regarding its use in pediatric patients.  The aim of the present study was to investigate the hearing performance and soft-tissue outcomes of the use of MIPS under local anesthesia in children with unilateral craniofacial malformation (UCM).

Multimodal Magnetic Resonance Findings in Parkinson's Disease With "Antecedent Essential Tremor": A Case Series of a Large Kindred.

Background: The clinical pictures of essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are often quite mimic at the early stage, and longstanding ET may ultimately develop to PD, that is, PD with "antecedent ET". Early diagnosis and differentiation of the two are essential for predicting disease progression and formulating individualized treatment plans. However, current approaches remain challenging.

Interdisciplinary problem-based learning model for standardized dental residency training: from theory to practice in dental trauma management.

Objective: Enhancing clinical skills and quality of dental residents is critical for standardized training. Conventional standardized training falls short in exposing residents to diverse scenarios and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, essential for dental trauma management. To address these issues, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University introduced an interdisciplinary problem-based learning (IPBL) model to improve residents' professional quality and practical abilities.

Prevention of refeeding syndrome: Evaluation of an enteral refeeding protocol for severely undernourished children.

Objectives: Refeeding syndrome (RS) defines the deleterious clinical and metabolic changes occurring during nutritional support of severely malnourished patients. Pediatric guidelines to prevent and treat RS are scarce and highly variable. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of an enteral refeeding protocol in severely undernourished hospitalized children with anorexia nervosa (AN) or organic diseases (OD).

Robotic surgery for paediatric neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction: a systematic review.

Objective: To evaluate in a systematic review the outcomes, benefits, and limitations of robot-assisted surgeries for paediatric neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD), as robot-assisted techniques have emerged as a potential alternative, offering enhanced precision, dexterity, and visualisation.

Methods: This review was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO identifier CRD42023464849) and adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. We included studies of paediatric patients (aged <18 years) with neurogenic LUTD undergoing robot-assisted continence surgery, assessing safety and efficacy.

The Involvement of the NEAT1-1/miR-873-5p/GalNAcT-I Axis in the Development of Neuroblastoma.

Background: The most prevalent extracranial solid tumor in childhood is neuroblastoma (NB), which arises from undifferentiated neural crest cells. However, the prognosis of this condition remains unfavorable, and the underlying mechanisms of its origin are still elusive. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the specific mechanism underlying NEAT1-1 in NB.

Sonographic Features of Juvenile Fibroadenoma in Children-a Retrospective Study.

Aims: Studies specifically examining the sonographic features of juvenile fibroadenoma in the pediatric population have not been documented. We aimed to analyze sonograms of juvenile fibroadenoma in children.

Subjects And Methods: Patients aged ≤ 18 years who underwent breast ultrasound examinations at our department and had pathologically proven juvenile fibroadenoma from September 2002 to January 2022 were included in this study.

Stereoelectroencephalographic exploration and surgical outcome in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.

Objective: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is typically characterized by drug-resistant epilepsy and subsequent cognitive deterioration. Surgery is a rare but viable option for the control of seizures in a subset of patients with LGS. This study aimed to describe the organization of the epileptogenic zone network (EZN) in patients with LGS using stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) and to report the outcome of post-SEEG treatment.

Changes in Serum Immunoglobulin Levels Play as Predictors of Treatment Response and Prognosis in Pediatric Idiopathic Nephrotic Syndrome During the Remission Phase.

Background: Nephrotic syndrome is an immune-mediated renal disorder characterized by T-cell and B-cell dysfunctions with changes in immunoglobulin (Ig) levels and the IgG:IgM ratio. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether the serum level of Igs can be considered as an index to predict the response to treatment and the prognosis of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS) in children in the remission phase.

Methods: The study population consisted of 38 children with INS in the remission phase and 38 age- and sex-matched healthy children.

Defining variances in practice for use of electrophysiology studies in risk stratification of patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot: a PACES survey.

Sudden cardiac death poses a significant risk in patients with surgically repaired tetralogy of Fallot. Despite extensive research, risk stratification practices vary. This study surveyed the Pediatric and Adult Congenital Electrophysiology Society to identify these differences.
