Dihydroartemisinin (DHA), an artemisinin derivative, can influence certain malignancies' inflammatory response and growth. This study used Cell Counting Kit-8 and Transwell assays to show that DHA suppressed the growth, migration, and invasion of medullary thyroid cancer cells. Furthermore, the authors used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence to confirm the expression of the transcriptional coactivators Yes-associated protein (YAP)/transcriptional coactivator with a PDZ-binding domain (TAZ) downstream of the Hippo pathway and changes in the expression of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process markers E-cadherin and N-cadherin.

Autosomal recessive non-syndromic hearing loss (ARNSHL) can cause severe or very severe pre-speech hearing loss. Transmembrane channel-like 1 (TMC1) gene is the sixth deafness gene discovered, but the precise extent of its protein structure and function is unknown. First, history collection, audiology examination and imaging examination were performed on the proband and his family members.

Objective: Laryngeal cancer (LC) is one of the most common squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck in clinical practice, and its incidence has been increasing in recent years, but the prognosis of the patients is not favorable. Hence, it is critical to re-understand and deeply study the causes and mechanisms of LC and explore new effective treatment methods and strategies. In this study, we analyzed the effect of Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) on the pathological progression of LC through the periostin (POSTN)/Yes-associated protein (YAP)/interleukin (IL)-6 pathway, which can provide new clinical references and guidelines.

Purpose: The phase II/III study of donafenib was initiated when there was no available treatment indicated for Chinese patients with progressive radioactive iodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer (RAIR-DTC). Donafenib, an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), showed good efficacy and tolerability in the phase II study. We aimed to further evaluate the antitumor activity and safety of donafenib in Chinese patients with RAIR-DTC.

Objective: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common pathological type of thyroid cancer, with good prognosis, but the rate of lymph node metastasis (LNM) is high, and the difference between men and women is significant. Therefore, the related risk factors for LNM of PTC based on gender were examined in this study in order to draw attention to gender factor in PTC.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological data of 2103 patients with surgically confirmed PTC at the Fourth affiliated Hospital of Hebei Medical University West Side between January 2016 and December 2019.

Dexmedetomidine Inhibits NF-κB-Transcriptional Activity in Neurons Undergoing Ischemia-Reperfusion by Regulating O-GlcNAcylation of SNW1.

J Neuropathol Exp Neurol

September 2022

Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University, The Fourth Hospital of Changsha, Changsha, Hunan, P.R. China.

Dexmedetomidine (Dex) is neuroprotective in ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) by suppressing inflammation but the underlying molecular mechanisms are not known. SNW domain-containing protein 1 (SNW1) is a coactivator of the pro-inflammatory transcription factor NF-κB p65. Because SNW1 is regulated by O-GlcNAcylation, we aimed to determine whether this modification influences NF-κB transcriptional activity in neurons undergoing I/R and how Dex may affect the O-GlcNAcylation of SNW1.

The inflammatory response following spinal cord injury (SCI) involves the activation of resident microglia and the infiltration of macrophages. Activated microglia/macrophages have either detrimental or beneficial effects on neural regeneration based on their functional polarized M1/M2 subsets. Aldose reductase (AR) has recently been shown to be a key component of the innate immune response.
