Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is an increasingly prevalent sensory disorder, but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Adaptor related protein complex 2 subunit beta 1 (AP2B1) has been indicated to be detectable in mature cochleae. Nonetheless, it is unclear whether AP2B1 is implicated in the progression of SNHL.

Background: Drooling, defined as the unintentional loss of saliva from the anterior oral cavity, remains poorly understood in terms of the underlying clinical factors in people with Parkinson's disease (PwP). This study aims to clarify these factors by analyzing predictors and secondarily the correlates with the severity of drooling in PwP.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 42 PwP with drooling and 59 without drooling.

Background: Superior canal dehiscence syndrome (Minor's syndrome) is a condition characterized by a bony defect in the superior semicircular canal (SSCC), with treatment primarily being surgical, notably through plugging of SSCC.
Aims/objectives: To examine the clinical outcome and postoperative VHIT findings after transmastoid plugging of the SSCC.
Materials And Methods: Patients having a superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCCD) syndrome with debilitating symptoms who underwent a plugging of the SSCC a transmastoid approach were included.

Background: Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a kind of acquired sensorineural hearing loss and has shown an increasing incidence in recent years. Hence, elucidating the exact pathophysiological mechanisms and proposing effective treatment and prevention methods become the top priority. Though a great number of researches have been carried out on NIHL, few of them were focused on metabolites.

Introduction: In the course of middle ear diseases, a disturbed influence of the system transmitting sound through the middle ear on the function of the inner ear is observed. The audiometric consequence of the disease process taking place in the middle ear is the shift in bone conduction (BC) thresholds, which is called pseudoperceptive hearing loss (the so-called Carhart effect). The natural process of aging of the hearing system (age-related hearing loss) means that the manifestation of the Carhart effect varies in different age groups.

Background: Deep neck space infections (DNSI) are common, potentially life-threatening presentations in otolaryngology. Treatment is often based on the severity of presenting symptoms and surgeon preference. This study aims to evaluate the presentation and predictors of complications in patients presenting with DNSI at an Australian Otolaryngology referral centre.

Rationale: Smoking has been shown to be associated with circulating deficiencies in 25(OH)D3 and reduced sinonasal tissue levels of the active form of vitamin D, 1,25(OH)2D3. Given vitamin D's ability to reduce inflammation, we sought to examine if intranasal (IN) delivery of calcitriol [clinical analog of 1,25(OH)2D3] could reduce inflammation and improve disease severity in a murine model of chronic cigarette smoke-induced sinonasal inflammation (CS-SI).
Methods: Mice were exposed to CS 5 h/day, 5 days/week for 9 months, and then began IN calcitriol three times per week for 4 weeks.

Background: Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) is a rare sinonasal malignancy primarily treated with surgery. For tumors arising from the olfactory area, traditional treatment involves transcribriform resection of the anterior cranial fossa. Surgery can be performed with unilateral or bilateral resection depending on extent of involvement; however, there are currently no studies comparing outcomes between the two.

Background The surgical management of chronic otitis media (COM) with squamous disease is canal wall down mastoidectomy (CWDM). Canal wall down procedures require the obliteration of the newly formed cavity to mitigate complications. Soft tissue flaps, including Rambo flap, Hong Kong flap, Palva flap, and inferior-based fascio-periosteal flap, as well as autologous bone pâté, have been the most successful and commonly used materials for obliteration over the past two decades.

Introduction: Psychogenic hearing loss is often neglected in the differential diagnosis of hearing disorders. In a difficult diagnostic process and treatment of psychogenic hearing loss disorder, the close cooperation of the audiologist, psychologist, patient, and his family is required. The study aimed to improve the knowledge and understanding of psychogenic hearing loss, establish a differential diagnosis in audiological tests in children, determine diagnostic procedures and finally apply adequate therapeutic procedures.
