Background: The ligamentum teres (LT) has received attention in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy (HA) for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). Indeed, a better understanding of the function of the LT and its implications for clinical outcomes in the presence of a torn LT is required. This systematic review analyses the patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and the complication rate when an intact or torn LT is encountered during HA for FAI.

Vascular interactions play a crucial role in embryogenesis, including skeletal development. During endochondral ossification, vascular networks are formed as mesenchymal cells condense and later invade skeletal elements to form the bone marrow. We and other groups developed a model of endochondral ossification by implanting human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived sclerotome into immunodeficient mice.

Background: Chronic post-surgical pain (CPSP) is recognised as one of the most common and debilitating complications of major surgery. Progression from acute to chronic pain after surgery involves sensitisation of central nervous system pathways with the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor having a central role. Ketamine is a potent, non-selective NMDA antagonist commonly used for management of acute postoperative pain.

Background: Despite their ability to regenerate as well as autografts, the use of nerve allografts is limited by the need for immunosuppression and the risk of disease transmission. Further, decellularized allografts lacking Schwann cells limit axonal regeneration in long nerve defects. This study evaluated sciatic nerve regeneration in rats implanted with cold- or cryopreserved allografts, and examined the effects of FK506, an immunosuppressant that targets calcineurin function, on motor recovery.

The new orthognathic treatment strategy of non-segmental fixation (non-fix) sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) with jaw exercise initiation on the second postoperative day, the so-called physiological positioning strategy (PPS), induces good skeletal stability with few temporomandibular joint (TMJ) symptoms after surgery in skeletal class III. This study aimed to clarify whether non-fix SSRO with modified PPS can be applied to skeletal class II. This retrospective study included skeletal class II patients who underwent non-fix SSRO to correct mandibular retrognathia.

The repair of large cartilage defects remains highly challenging in the fields of orthopedics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. A chondroinductive agent is promising to activate endogenous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) so as to facilitate cartilage regeneration. In this study, we analyze the crystallographic data of the critical binding domain of transforming growth factor β3 (TGF-β3) with its type II receptor and successfully develop a novel chondroinductive peptide - TGF-β3-derived peptide No.

Titanium (Ti) implants have become widespread especially in dentistry and orthopedics, where macrophage-driven osteoimmunomodulation is crucial to their success. Hydrophilic modification of Ti represents a promising strategy to enhance its immune and osteogenic responses. Herein, the osteoimmunomodulatory performance and integrin-mediated mechanism of novel non-thermal atmospheric plasma (NTAP) treatment to induce a hydrophilic Ti were investigated for the first time.

Purpose: Medial meniscus (MM) posterior root tears (PRT) cause pathological medial extrusion (MMME) and posterior extrusion (MMPE), particularly during knee flexion, leading to rapidly progressive knee osteoarthritis. We investigated pre- and postoperative MM extrusion using three-dimensional open magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) following two pullout repair techniques: two simple stitches (TSS) and TSS with an additional all-inside suture to the posteromedial capsule (TSS-PM). We hypothesized that TSS-PM would decrease MM extrusion more effectively than TSS.

Its rarity and unique clinical challenges, such as severe injuries from the inability to sense pain, make reporting cases critical. A 5-year-old boy, the third child of consanguineous parents, was referred for a fractured femur.
