Nitric oxide-sensitive guanylyl cyclase (NO-GC) is a heterodimeric enzyme with an α- and a β-subunit. In its active form as an αβ-heterodimer, NO-GC produces cyclic guanosine-3',5'-monophophate (cGMP) to regulate vasodilation and proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). In contrast to VSMCs, only a few studies reported on the expression of the NO-GC αβ-heterodimer in human pericytes.

Objectives: Children and young patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at persistent risk of gingivitis despite usual preventive measures. This clinical study aimed to determine the efficacy of an intensive oral preventive programme (OPP) for young patients with CKD in treating plaque-induced gingivitis modified by systemic factors.
Methods: Young patients with CKD (N = 30) were recruited/randomised to a need-related OPP (n = 15) or treatment as usual (TAU) including mainly motivation and instructions (controls, n = 15) followed by a single intensive prophylactic appointment after 3 months.

Objectives: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the masking success of bleaching and/or resin infiltration treatment of fluorotic lesions in anterior teeth of adults and adolescents.
Data Sources: PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase were systematically searched from the beginning of documentation to December 31, 2023.
Primary Outcome Was The Number Of Masked Teeth: A tooth was considered masked when the color difference (ΔE CIE76) between fluorotic areas and the surrounding sound enamel was ≤3.

Unlabelled: Polymerization shrinkage of bonded resin composite restorations will result in the development of curing contraction stresses during setting and can cause debonding of the restoration or failure of the surrounding tooth structure. However, the hygroscopic expansion that occurs after exposure of the restorative to the wet oral environment can compensate for this shrinkage.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the hygroscopic expansion of six commercial resin composites and relate it to their composition, mechanical properties, shrinkage, and contraction stress development.

Background: Understanding of socioeconomic context might enable more efficient evidence-based preventive strategies in oral health.
Aim: The study assessed the caries-related socioeconomic macro-factors in 12-year-olds across European countries.
Design: This systematic review involved epidemiological surveys on the caries status of 12-year-olds from 2011 to 2022.

As little evidence is available, we report the oral health of neurogeriatric inpatients and the association with hematological parameters representing systemic health. We performed a cross-sectional investigation of 30 patients undergoing neurogeriatric early rehabilitation and excluded systemic inflammation as a trigger for oral infection (C-reactive protein >5 mg/dL). Outcomes included oral health and hygiene status and routine laboratory parameters.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) directly affects oral health. Yet data about halitosis in young CKD patients and the impact of dental prophylaxis is limited. Therefore, as part of this randomized clinical trial, halitosis in young CKD patients undergoing intensive or standard oral preventive procedures was to be explored.

Objectives: In light of the growing interest in orthodontic care and its effectiveness in Germany, part 2 of this multicenter cohort study evaluated patient-reported outcomes such as oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), oral hygiene habits, oral health beliefs, and potential influencing factors.
Methods: Of 586 patients screened from seven German study centers, data from 343 patients were analyzed for this part of the study. At the end of their orthodontic treatment, study participants filled out a questionnaire of either the German long version of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-G 49) or the German short version of the Child Oral Health Impact Profile (COHIP-19), depending on their age, as well as questions about their oral hygiene behavior and beliefs.

Aim: To propose a framework for consistently applying the 2018 periodontal status classification scheme to epidemiological surveys (Application of the 2018 periodontal status Classification to Epidemiological Survey data, ACES).
Proposed Framework: We specified data requirements and workflows for either completed or planned epidemiological surveys, utilizing commonly collected measures of periodontal status (clinical attachment levels [CAL], probing depths, bleeding on probing), as well as additional necessary variables for the implementation of the 2018 periodontal status classification (tooth loss due to periodontitis and complexity factors). Following detailed instructions and flowcharts, survey participants are classified as having periodontal health, gingivitis or periodontitis.

Although dry mouth is a relatively common condition, salivary flow is not routinely measured in dental clinical practice. Moreover, existing data regarding the use of the modified Schirmer test (MST) for the screening of dry mouth has not been summarized. This systematic review and meta-analysis, conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, aimed to determine whether the modified Schirmer test can be used to identify dry mouth.

Objectives: Oral microbiome plays a crucial role in the incidence and development of oral diseases. An altered intestinal microbiome has been reported in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aimed to characterize the tongue microbiome of young patients with CKD compared to their healthy mothers to identify the influence of CKD-associated factors on resilient tongue ecosystem.

Although substantial progress has been made in dentistry in terms of diagnosis and therapy, current treatment methods in periodontology, orthodontics, endodontics, and oral and maxillofacial surgery, nevertheless, suffer from numerous limitations, some of which are associated with a dramatic reduction in the quality of life. Many general mechanisms of inflammation and immunity also apply to the oral cavity and oral diseases. Nonetheless, there are special features here that are attributable, on the one hand, to developmental biology and, on the other hand, to the specific anatomical situation, which is characterized by a close spatial relationship of soft and hard tissues, exposure to oral microbiota, and to a rapid changing external environment.

Objective: The objective of the study was to systematically compare barriers/facilitators providing oral hygiene to young children and dependent older people and to generate ideas to improve the implementation of oral hygiene measures.
Background: Many older people, like children, rely on third-party assistance for teeth cleaning. Barriers/facilitators in providing oral care services have been described in recent works.

The binding of nitric oxide (NO) to heme in the β subunit of soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) activates both the heterodimeric αβ and αβ isoforms of the enzyme, leading to the increased production of cGMP from GTP. In cultured human mast cells, exogenous NO is able to inhibit mast cell degranulation via NO-cGMP signaling. However, under inflammatory oxidative or nitrosative stress, sGC becomes insensitive to NO.

The activity of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in endothelial cells increased with the phosphorylation of the enzyme at Ser1177 and decreased at Thr495. The regulation of the phosphorylation sites of eNOS at Ser1177 and Thr495 in blood vessels of the healthy and inflamed human dental pulp is unknown. To investigate this, healthy and carious human third molars were immersion-fixed and decalcified.

Aims: For any orthodontic-orthognathic treatment, it is crucial that patients are provided with enough and proper information in order to make evidence-based decisions- not only prior to treatment start, but also throughout the course of therapy. Thus, the objectives of this qualitative study were to identify information needs of patients undergoing combined orthodontic-orthognathic treatment. Additionally, professionals' perspectives were evaluated.
