Using organoids to investigate human endometrial receptivity.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

September 2023

Center for Reproductive Medicine, Henan Key Laboratory of Reproduction and Genetics, The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, China.

The human endometrium is only receptive to an implanting blastocyst in the mid-secretory phase of each menstrual cycle. Such time-dependent alterations in function require intricate interplay of various factors, largely coordinated by estrogen and progesterone. Abnormal endometrial receptivity is thought to contribute to two-thirds of the implantation failure in humans and therefore significantly hindering IVF success.

RNA methylation, an epigenetic modification that does not alter gene sequence, may be important to diverse biological processes. Protein regulators of RNA methylation include "writers," "erasers," and "readers," which respectively deposit, remove, and recognize methylated RNA. RNA methylation, particularly N6-methyladenosine (m6A), 5-methylcytosine (m5C), N3-methylcytosine (m3C), N1-methyladenosine (m1A) and N7-methylguanosine (m7G), has been suggested as disease therapeutic targets.

Lactate and Lactylation: Clinical Applications of Routine Carbon Source and Novel Modification in Human Diseases.

Mol Cell Proteomics

October 2023

Institute of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Jinan, China; Konge Larsen ApS, Kongens Lyngby, Denmark. Electronic address:

Cell metabolism generates numerous intermediate metabolites that could serve as feedback and feed-forward regulation substances for posttranslational modification. Lactate, a metabolic product of glycolysis, has recently been conceptualized to play a pleiotropic role in shaping cell identities through metabolic rewiring and epigenetic modifications. Lactate-derived carbons, sourced from glucose, mediate the crosstalk among glycolysis, lactate, and lactylation.

  • The study investigates PD-L1 expression in cervical cancer (CC), endometrial cancer (EC), and ovarian cancer (OC) to determine its prognostic value.* -
  • A meta-analysis showed PD-L1 positivity rates of 58.1% in CC, 33.8% in EC, and 37.5% in OC, with variations based on assessment criteria.* -
  • PD-L1 positivity correlated with poorer overall survival in CC and EC patients and indicated that it may serve as a prognostic biomarker for CC and EC, but not for OC.*

Activation of G protein-coupled estrogen receptor stimulates placental human chorionic gonadotropin expression through PKA-CREB signaling.

Mol Cell Endocrinol

November 2023

Center for Reproductive Medicine, Henan Key Laboratory of Reproduction and Genetics, The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, China. Electronic address:

The placenta-secreted human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone that plays a critical role in inducing ovarian progesterone production, which is required for maintaining normal pregnancy. The bioavailability of hCG depends on the expression of the beta-subunit of hCG (hCG-β) which is encoded by the chorionic gonadotropin beta (CGB) gene. G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) is a membrane estrogen receptor involved in non-genomic estrogen signaling.
