Background: Premature Ovarian Failure (POI), a prevalent gynecological, endocrine disease, significantly impairs the reproductive health of women of childbearing age and presents a formidable challenge to clinicians. Until now, there has been a lack of effective treatments to fundamentally improve ovarian function in patients with POI. Stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising treatment in the field of POI, with notable research progress achieved to date.

Role of Drinking Attitudes and Trait Impulsivity in Prenatal Alcohol Craving and Consumption in Mothers of Reproductive Age.

Subst Use Misuse

January 2025

Substance Use, Gender and Applied Research, RTI International, Research Triangle Park, NC, USA.

Recognizing the severe consequences of alcohol consumption during pregnancy, such as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs), the present study explored the role of drinking attitudes, trait impulsivity, and decision-making toward instant gratification in alcohol craving and consumption during pregnancy among mothers of reproductive age. Utilizing participants from Amazon Mechanical Turk ( = 141), we first categorized mothers into three groups: those who neither craved nor consumed alcohol during their last pregnancy, those who craved but did not consume, and those who craved and consumed alcohol. Using binomial logistic regression, we then examined what factors, if any, could differentiate between (a) mothers who craved alcohol during pregnancy and those who did not and (b) mothers who resisted alcohol cravings and those who yielded to them.

Introduction: This study examined factors that affected sentinel lymph node (SLN) identification of patients with endometrial cancer having a preoperative estimation of low recurrent risk.

Methods: This study included 97 patients with endometrial cancer who attempted to identify SLN using a uterine cervical injection of technetium-99 m phytate under laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgery at our institute. A preoperative single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and intraoperative gamma probe were used to detect hot nodes.

Introduction: While African countries have expanded access to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) since 2015, regional targets for PrEP uptake remain unmet. Understanding which populations are prioritized for PrEP at the policy level is an important step in determining the scope of PrEP distribution across Africa and identifying gaps in programme implementation. We reviewed national guidance to characterize populations prioritized for PrEP in Africa.

Prenat Diagn

January 2025

Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA.

Objective: To report a case of a fetus with multiple congenital anomalies and suspected Barth syndrome, highlighting potential phenotypic expansion of the syndrome.

Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) account for a large proportion of healthcare-associated infections. CAUTIs, caused by colonization of the catheter surface by uropathogens, are challenging to treat, especially when compounded by antibiotic resistance. One prophylactic strategy that could reduce pathogen colonization is bacterial interference, whereby the catheter surface is coated with non-pathogenic bacteria.

We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics of families with heritable TP53-related cancer (hTP53rc) syndrome in Sweden with class 4 and 5 germline TP53 variants (gTP53), and to evaluate the genotype-phenotype correlation. These results were also used to evaluate our previously published phenotype prediction model based on TP53 missense variants and their impact on protein conformation. 90 families with hTP53rc were initially identified in Sweden.

Regulator of G protein signaling 1 (RGS1) is known to be highly expressed in various tumors, but its specific effects and regulatory mechanism in ovarian cancer (OC) progression are not well understood. To delve into the tumor biology, a predictive risk model for OC was developed, incorporating RGS1, PRKG2, CD24, and ABCB1, with RGS1 exhibiting the strongest correlation. The model's reliability and validity were confirmed through Kaplan-Meier analysis, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and principal component analysis (PCA).

Background: Maternal stress is a potential factor affecting fetal growth, but it is unknown whether it directly affects fetal growth restriction. This study aims to investigate the association between pre-pregnancy maternal stress with small for gestational age (SGA).

Methods: This study used a population-based retrospective cohort analysis to examine the association between pre-pregnancy maternal stress and SGA in offspring.

To explore the impact of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) on the pregnancy outcomes in frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycles for patients with recurrent implantation failure (RIF) complicated by chronic endometriti (CE). A total of 138 patients with RIF combined with CE who underwent in vitro fertilization/intracytoplamic sperm injection treatment-embryo transfer in the Department of Reproductive Medicine, Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2020 to December 2023 were retrospectively included. According to the endometrial preparation protocol, they were divided into two groups: the pituitary downregulation group (=59) and the artificial cycle group (=79).

Ovarian cancer (OC) is a highly malignant gynecological tumor, and its effective treatment is frequently impeded by drug resistance and recurrent tumor growth. The reprogramming of glutamine metabolism in ovarian cancer is closely associated with tumor progression and the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Recently, targeting metabolic reprogramming has emerged as a promising approach for cancer therapy.

Department of Mother and Neonate, Institute for Maternal and Child Health IRCCS Burlo Garofolo, 34137, Trieste, Italy; Department of Medical Surgical and Health Sciences, University of Trieste, 34149, Trieste, Italy.

Background: Identifying fetal growth restriction and distinguishing it from a constitutionally small fetus can be challenging. The umbilical vein blood flow is a surrogate parameter of the amount of oxygen and nutrients delivered to the fetus, providing valuable insights about the function of the placenta. Nevertheless, currently, this parameter is not used in the diagnosis and management of fetal growth restriction.

Tumor-infiltrating macrophages (Mϕs), known as tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), play a crucial role in the tumor microenvironment. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) revealed that intratumoral CD68-positive Mϕs are associated with poor prognosis and clinicopathological factors in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Subsequently, an indirect co-culture system involving HCC cells and peripheral blood-derived Mϕs was developed.
