Importance Of The Field: Paroxysmal dyskinesias represent a heterogeneous group of rare diseases sharing characteristics with two important groups of neurological disorders, the movement disorders and the epilepsies. Their common hallmark is the paroxysmal occurrence of dyskinesias including athetosis, ballism, chorea and dystonia. During the last two decades, various genetic abnormalities have been identified thereby providing insight into the underlying pathophysiology and offering therapeutic opportunities for many of these conditions.

Prospective evaluation of a post-stroke epilepsy risk scale.

Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes are established etiological factors for recurrent seizures. Still, only few prospective data are available to predict post-stroke epilepsy and to choose the best point in time and anticonvulsive agent for treatment. In a prospective study we evaluated 264 consecutive stroke patients and assessed their post-stroke epilepsy risk within a follow-up of 1 year.

Localizing and lateralizing value of ictal flatulence.

Objective: Autonomic seizures have been associated with seizure onset in the temporal or insular lobe and consist of variations in blood pressure and heart rate, sweating, flushing, piloerection, hypersalivation, vomiting, spitting, and alterations in bladder and bowel functions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the localizing and lateralizing value of ictal flatulence.

Methods: Medical records of patients with focal epilepsies who were monitored at the Interdisciplinary Epilepsy Center Marburg between 2006 and 2009 were reviewed for the occurrence of ictal flatulence.
