Background: Dysphagia after stroke is common and can impact morbidity and death. The purpose of this population-based study was to determine specific epidemiological and health risk factors that impact development of dysphagia after acute stroke.
Methods And Results: Ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke cases from 2010 and 2015 were identified via chart review from the GCNKSS (Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Stroke Study), a representative sample of ≈1.
Background: Patients with ischemic stroke and concomitant COVID-19 infection have worse outcomes than those without this infection, but the impact of COVID-19 on hemorrhagic stroke remains unclear. We aimed to assess if COVID-19 worsens outcomes in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).
Methods And Results: We conducted an observational study of ICH outcomes using Get With The Guidelines Stroke data.
Background: The American Heart Association's Life's Simple 7, a public health construct capturing key determinants of cardiovascular health, became the Life's Essential 8 after the addition of sleep duration. The authors tested the hypothesis that suboptimal sleep duration is associated with poorer neuroimaging brain health profiles in asymptomatic middle-aged adults.
Methods And Results: The authors conducted a prospective magnetic resonance neuroimaging study in middle-aged individuals without stroke or dementia enrolled in the UK Biobank.

Background The duration and magnitude of increased stroke risk after a hospitalization for acute systolic heart failure (HF) remains uncertain. Methods and Results The authors performed a retrospective cohort study using claims (2008-2018) from a nationally representative 5% sample of Medicare beneficiaries aged ≥66 years. Cox regression models were fitted separately for the groups with and without acute systolic HF to examine its association with the incidence of ischemic stroke after adjustment for demographics, stroke risk factors, and Charlson comorbidities.

We tested the hypothesis that lower genetically determined VitD levels are associated with higher risk of ICH. Methods and Results We conducted a 2 sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) study using publicly available summary statistics from published genome-wide association studies of VitD levels (417 580 study participants) and ICH (1545 ICH cases and 1481 matched controls).

Our objective was to evaluate the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in broadly defined underrepresented groups. Methods and Results We evaluated the latest data release of All of Us.

Whether depression is a risk factor for stroke within the HIV population is unknown. Methods and Results We analyzed data on 106 333 (33 528 HIV-positive; 72 805 HIV-negative) people who were free of baseline cardiovascular disease from an observational cohort of HIV-positive people and matched uninfected veterans in care from April 1, 2003 through December 31, 2014.

There has been great evolution in this field, including but not limited to extended time-window therapeutic interventions for acute ischemic stroke. The intent of this article is to evaluate the goals and future direction of clinical rotations in neurovascular and neurocritical care for emergency medicine (EM) residents.

Background There is disagreement in the literature about the relationship between strokes and seasonal conditions. We sought to (1) describe seasonal patterns of stroke in the United States, and (2) determine the relationship between weather variables and stroke outcomes. Methods and Results We performed a cross-sectional study using Get With The Guidelines-Stroke data from 896 hospitals across the continental United States.
