Background Obesity and diabetes mellitus are strongly associated with heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF). The benefits of bariatric surgery on cardiovascular outcomes are known in people with or without diabetes mellitus. Surgical treatment of obesity might also reduce the incidence of HF and AF in individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Background A vegetarian diet (VD) may reduce future cardiovascular risk in patients with ischemic heart disease. Methods and Results A randomized crossover study was conducted in subjects with ischemic heart disease, assigned to 4-week intervention periods of isocaloric VD and meat diet (MD) with individually designed diet plans, separated by a 4-week washout period. The primary outcome was difference in oxidized low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) between diets.

In persons with obesity plasma ANGPTL4 levels have been positively correlated with body fat mass, TG levels and low HDL. A loss-of-function E40K mutation in prevents LPL inhibition, resulting in lower TGs and higher HDLc in the general population.
